A team of Mexican and American historians has been exploring and examining two small hills in northwestern Mexico in the municipality of San Blas. These structures have the symmetrical shape of, and have been referred to in local lore through generations as, pyramids. In six different treks we have uncovered and documented what we believe to be evidence of human construction of these structures. Our most recent discoveries concerning spatial, geographical, and astronomical relationships of the tops of these cerritos to other known sites of archaeological significance support our hypothesis that these structures are, indeed, of human construction, and not just a manipulation of the existing geography. Further exploration suggested for the site, confirming pyramidal structures in west Mexico, would alter the dialogue about the pre-Olmec diaspora of Mesoamerican peoples.
