    : The study begins by stating the causes and extent of instability in West African nations and notes the military as a major contributor. The study then confirms the general globalization of democracy and trends in that direction in West Africa. This trend is good but the study proves that the military can derail this drive toward democracy. political leader in West African nations should therefore evolve measures that will ensure that military forces refrain from interfering in domestic politics. Case Studies of Brazil, Venezuela, and Spain where the military has successfully stayed away from domestic politics after a period of interventions provides an insight into how these were achieved. It concludes that the military role includes a withdrawal from domestic politics as well as undertaking activities that generally promote stability.
