The present communication highlights that ac conductivity measurement of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)-polymer composites is a very promising characterizing tool for qualifying any crude MWNT-sample synthesized by electric arc. It distinguishes graphite structures from that of the MWNTs and reflects the relative amount of nearly one-dimensional structures and disorders present within the samples. This new protocol would help in evolving more direct and quantitative criteria for qualification of MWNTs synthesized through diverse techniques and will definitely add up to the conceptual understanding in visualizing the exact roles of different controlling parameters affecting the growth of MWNTs.

ABSTRACT This study focuses on calculating the electrical properties of composites of CNTs with polystyrene within the framework of percolation theory. Nano-composites, with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as a filler; especially synthesized in a dc arc plasma system in presence of focusing electric field, have been shown to exhibit metallic behavior. The purity of the MWCNTs prepared under the optimized focusing voltage of 400 V is then seen to be much higher as compared to the one synthesized at zero focusing voltage.

A and B site modified new bismuth layered structure ferroelectric ceramics of the Aurivillius family were prepared by the solid-state route. Impedance measurements were performed on these samples to understand the relaxation effects in the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1 MHz. From the detailed impedance and modulus spectroscopic analysis, it is found that the aliovalent modified B-site enhances the relaxor-like nature, compared to A-site substitution. These results were corroborated with ac-conductivity transport analysis. In this connection, a defect formula is also proposed. The results are discussed.

The oxidation of aluminium was studied using optical emission spectroscopy (OES) during the evaporation of aluminium in traces of oxygen in a thermal plasma reactor. The ratio of the measured line intensities of Al-O with that of Al follows the exact trend as of that obtained from the corresponding line intensities in X-ray diffraction spectra of the synthesized samples. The paper presents the experimental results showing that the crystalline phase of the nano-particles, synthesized in a DC transferred arc thermal plasma reactor, critically depend on the operating pressure in the reaction zone. The paper reports about the changes in crystalline phases of three different compounds namely: aluminium oxide (Al2O3), aluminium nitride (AlN) and iron oxide (FexOy) synthesized at 760Torr

Magnetic nanoparticles of iron oxide were synthesized by transferred arc plasma induced gas phase condensation method. Structural, morphological and magnetic studies of the as synthesized powder were carried out using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy. These studies have revealed the simultaneous nucleation and condensation of different magnetic phases with a broad size distribution of the nanoparticles which
