    During the last 50 years a vast number of structural studies on Schiff bases derived from hydroxyaryl aldehydes and their coordination compounds have been undertaken. In this review we present a systematic and brief overview of the most important discoveries and achievements accomplished in this field. The occurrence of Schiff bases (and their complexes) derived from nine most commonly used hydroxyaryl aldehydes in the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) has been investigated. Keto-enol tautomerism and intramolecular hydrogen bonding in salicylaldimines and naphthaldimines is discussed, with a comment of the most common errors in determining the correct tautomeric form. Also, the interrelationship of crystal packing and the substituents on the Schiff base is studied. Finally, we give a short overview of conformational differences between free Schiff bases and Schiff bases bonded to metal ions as well as some structural characteristics of Schiff base metal complexes.

    U najranijoj dobi samo igra potice ljudsko bice na koristenje svojeg tijela, osjetila i emocija, da razvije sposobnost misljenja, razumijevanja i inteligencije. Ucenje otkrivanjem koje se zasniva se na vlastitom iskustvu i koje polazi od uocavanja i definiranja problema preko vlastite aktivnosti do pronalaženja rjesenja u biti je osobina s kojom se rodimo. U godinama predskolskog razdoblja u djetetovoj igri sve vise pocinje dominirati njegova sposobnost izmisljanja, zamisljanja i razmisljanja te je dovoljno razvijena motorika tijela i spretnost. S obzirom da se ucenje otkrivanjem može primijeniti na svim razinama obrazovanja, a ono se zasniva na pokusu (kojeg djeca izvode sami ili grupno), osmisljena je radionica za djecu predskolske dobi. Odabrani su prikladni pokusi temeljem kojih je moguce djeci približiti pojave koje se događaju u njihovoj svakodnevnici i potaknuti interes za promatranjem i proucavanjem svoje okolice. Tridesetak djece podijeljeno je u pet grupa. Napravljeni su sljedeci demonstracijski i grupni pokusi: 1. Kuhanje caja i promjena njegove boje uslijed dodavanja limunova soka. 2. Filtracija prljave vode (smjesa vode i prljavstine koja je metlom sakupljena u hodniku vrtica). 3. Destilacija caja. 4. Igra s bojama, kapalicom, tikvicama i casama (vodene otopine kiselobaznih indikatora te vodene otopine limunske kiseline i sapunice). 5. Smrzavanje vode golim rukama (kristalizacija natrijevog acetata). 6. Voda koja može zapaliti vatru (reakcija vode sa smjesom cinka, amonijevog nitrata i amonijevog klorida).

    The article deals with the "anionic nomenclature of acids" which were in use in Croatia and former Yugoslavia almost 30 years. Historical reasearch traces this nomenclature to Wilhelm Ostwald. The reason for the use of anionic nomenclature in Croatian/Serbian language was political rather than chemical or linguistical.
    Research Interests:
    This highlight presents an overview of the current advances in the preparation of halogen bonded metal–organic multi-component solids, including salts and cocrystals comprising neutral and ionic constituents.
