Abstract: Four values of social accountability are, relevance, quality, cost effectiveness and equity, as they pertain to the activities of medical schools, namely education, research and service. Integration of medical education into health service provision is the best strategy for health system responsiveness and social accountability of medical education.

Abstract Objective: The concept of tissue engineering holds huge promise for thefuture treatment of osseous defects. For bone tissue engineering, stem cells are applied on supporting scaffolds under controlled stimulation with growth factors. Scaffolds are provisional matrices for bone growth providing a specific environment for tissue development and favoring cellular attachment, growth and differentiation.

Objective: Biphasic ceramics of hydroxyapatite and three calcium phosphate (HA/TCP) are increasingly being used as a bone substitute in regenerative surgery. To increase the bone forming capacities, HA/TCP Scaffolds could be enriched with osteogenic factor like mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) which is the subject of present study.

Abstract: Primary intraosseous carcinoma of the jaws is a rare entity which is mostly discussed through case reports and literature reviews. Presentation of new cases would contribute to a better understanding of different aspects of the entity. The researchers have presented a case of the lesion arising in the mandible in the 4th decade of a female's life. The definite diagnosis of keratinized PIOC was confirmed based on the combination of pathological and clinical findings.

Loss of maxillary molar teeth leads to rapid loss of bone in the alveolus and increases the size of the maxillary sinus. Bone loss can extend to the alveolar process, leaving only a thin wall of bone between the maxillary sinus and the oral cavity. 1 Augmentation of the maxillary sinus floor is a welldocumented technique and is generally accepted as an implantology procedure to facilitate placement of dental implants in the posterior atrophic maxilla.

Abstract This clinical report presents a 46-year-old man diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma with the chief complaint of masticatory and speech deficiency because of radiation therapy. After a period of controlling post radiation caries, the patient was rehabilitated with tooth and implant supported metal ceramic restorations following surgical and endodontic intervention.

Abstract Background and Aim: Using different osteogenic growth factors, which is still under investigation, is a favorable method for bone regeneration. This systematic review is aimed at evaluating the effects of different growth factors and their carriers on osteogenesis. Materials and Methods: Electronic databases (Medline, EMBase and Cochrane) were searched by the authors for articles published from 1999 to April 2010.

Abstract: Mandibular defects may result from many conditions such as trauma, inflammatory diseases and tumors. There are rare cases reported in the literature that have demonstrated spontaneous bone regeneration after resection of the mandible. Several factors such as age, preservation of the periosteum and genetics seem to influence spontaneous bone regeneration capacity in individuals.

Abstract It is difficult to reconstruct an alar defect with cartilage involvement. Here in the authors report a case of traumatic alar loss during childhood in which an alar reconstruction was carried out with a composite auricular graft put over the pedicle buccal flap which was rotated and passed through the intraoral side. The lining skin and auricular cartilage for the flap was obtained from the auricular region which was acceptable for the patient. All procedures were performed under general anesthesia.

Abstract Background and aims. Statins, the mevalonate pathway inhibitors, have effects on bone formation in vitro and in vivo. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether injection of statins could lead to ectopic bone formation in rats. Materials and methods. A single dose (0.5 mg) of simvastatin, atrovastatin, lovastatin and polyethylene glycol (control material) were injected into four quadrants of dorsal subcutaneous tissue in twelve rats.

Several reports demonstrate successful use of the buccal fat pad (BFP) as pedicled graft in reconstructing small to medium sized maxillary defects. BFP harvesting has so far been shown to be an easy, well-tolerated, and uncomplicated technique for oral reconstruction. This case report proposes the use of BFP for repairing of the perforated sinus membrane during sinus augmentation.
