Construction of E75 highway section through Grdelica gorge was one of the most demanding projects realized in recent Serbian history. The alignment approximately 25 km long consists of several tens of bridges, two tunnels, three galleries and cuts with total length of 6 km. The alignment passes through highly anisotropic Palaeozoic schist rock formation of different weathering grades. This study focuses on shear strength properties of discontinuities, which are found to be the critical feature contributing to the occurrence of (in)stabilities during highway construction. Field and laboratory investigations were performed in order to determine the shear strength properties of adversely oriented discontinuities. Nonlinear failure law of hyperbolic type is used to describe functional dependence between normal stress and shear stress of rough and filled joints. Parameters of nonlinear envelope were determined by curve fitting to laboratory experimental data (shear test results) and by relating JRC and JCS parameters to the parameters of hyperbolic envelope. The results suggest that JRC and JCS parameters are not correlated. Experimental data show markedly higher dilation effect and overall strength properties compared to the field determination of strength parameters. The type of soft infill also dictates the values of shear strength parameters.

Seismic dilatometer has been established as a common investigation tool for site characterization. Results obtained at two test sites using a seismic dilatometer, equipped to record both Pand Swaves (SPDMT), are presented in the paper. At Belgrade Waterfront test site soil is young, NC, “well-behaved” which makes DMT measurements (A, B) and DMT standard interpretation procedure accurate in predicting geotechnical parameters. At Kuzmin test site results of dilatometer test are more difficult to interpret since partial drainage conditions emerge during test performance. A procedure that compensate for errors that are introduced by the partial drainage conditions is applied to restore undrained A and B values from the dissipation curve. These undrained values are used in standard DMT interpretation procedure to yield geotechnical parameters. DMT parameters derived from consideration and without consideration of partial drainage effects are compared. Results of both Pand Swave velocity ...

ABSTRACT. U.S. Steel Serbia Company, produces about 1 150 000 tons of industrial waste every year, and almost a half of it (500 000 t) is reused or recycled, either within the same company or outside of it. The rest of the industrial waste is permanently disposed. The latter includes disposing of the solid industrial waste – steel slag, and also a sludge from the substation for industrial waste water treatment. In this regard U. S. Steel Serbia Company has started with the construction of the first certificated substation for the industrial waste management in the Republic of Serbia, in 2011. The facility also includes the industrial waste landfill body with two independent cells: smaller – for the disposal of hazardous industrial waste and bigger – for non-hazardous industrial waste. The total available volume is approximately 4 685 000 m3, 235 000 m3 of which is for industrial hazardous waste and 4 450 000 m3 for non-hazardous waste. Considering that in one part the height of the ...

The bridge over the Danube will be part of the so-called north main tangent - NMT as one of the most important elements of the future road and street network base in Belgrade. It will be the second bridge over the Danube in Belgrade. In this paper the results of the pile load tests for the central bridge structure foundation will be analysed, using the EC 7 standard. The length of the test pile was 46 m and its diameter was 2.0 m. Load test was carried out with the contra load of 2100 tons in the form of pre-stressed reinforced concrete beam, which is founded on piles, each about 60 m. For the realization of a vertical pressing force to the pile head, five hydraulic presses were used, that were securing the force from 3000 to 6000 kN.
