Introduction The aim of this systematic review was to compare still photography and videography for smile analysis. Materials and Methods Based on the available data, two authors conducted an electronic database PubMed search from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2015, and ten strategies were designed using five keywords along with their respective synonyms. Twelve articles were shortlisted for the systematic review. Results The search yielded 91 articles, of which 12 were included based on the selection criteria. Of these 12, five concluded videography compared to be a better tool. Seven articles had variable conclusions based on the study setting and population evaluated. Conclusions Digital video clips offer a tremendous amount of information for analyzing the dynamic character of the smile, but a standard digital photograph allows for immediate viewing.

The incidence of ectopically erupting canine is quite common, reasons are multifactorial, but usually it's the lack of space which happens due to mesial drift of the posterior teeth or the inherent discrepancy between arch length and tooth size discrepancy. If it's the former, distalization is one of the Go-to treatment modality one can opt for provided the nose and lip relation is optimum and does not warrant for extraction. If it's the latter then extraction remains the only choice. This case report discusses an innovative way of aligning a highly placed canine without taxing the anchorage in all 3 planes with help of Skeletal anchorage and Loop mechanics while also correcting the inclinations and gummy smile without hindering nose-lip relation to a certain extent and also tackling the common problem of anatomically short upper lip.

Aim and Objective: Endodontic retreatment is indicated in the event of a failure of initial treatment of the root canal and of an initial treatment that looks to be correctable with retreatment. This in-vitro study was designed to assess the efficacy of passive ultrasonic irrigation in endodontic retreatment, by employing scanning electron microscopes, on the cleanliness of dentine tubules with and without solvent in curved root channels. Material and method: Sixty human maxillary molar teeth were treated endontically. The protaper rotary instrument was used in root canals in the crown down procedure under copious 3% NaOCl (2 ml) and Glyde irrigation. The saline solution (1 ml) was used for final rinsing. The 10 sample root surfaces of each group were evaluated for SEM pictures. Results: Amongst group I and II here were more open dentinal tubules that were statistically significant (p<0.05) in Group II without solvent group. Group IV demonstrated larger, statistically significant...

The benefits of Adenotonsillectomy on Dentofacial development have been observed both in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies in children and adults. Obstructive hypertrophy of the tonsils and adenoids can lead to facial imbalances, such as horizontal position of the mandible, raised position of the head, low posture of the hyoid bone and anterior inferior position of the tongue. In our study we evaluated the changes in maxillary arch dimensions, posterior transverse inter arch discrepancy, upper and lower incisor inclination in patients with and without Adeno/tonsillectomy. Three groups were formed: Group I:(n=10) = participants indicated for (Adeno/tonsillectomy) but did not proceed with the same. Group II: (n=10) = participants undergoing tonsillectomy. Group III: (n=10) =participants undergoing Adeno tonsillectomy. The duration of study was 20 months. Result: Maxillary Arch Dimensions increased, PTID decreased, Upper and Lower incisors retroclined when evaluated before and 9...

Orthodontists face difficulty when it comes to treating Class III malocclusion. It is best to treat it at the growing stage with dentofacial orthopedics. Maxillary protraction using the Alternate Rapid Maxillary Expansion and Contraction (Alt-RAME) technique is an effective approach for treating skeletal Class III malocclusion at an early age. A 9-year-old female patient came to the Department of Orthodontics with a complaint of backwardly placed upper teeth and un-aesthetic dental as well as facial appearance. Intraoral examination revealed an anterior cross-bite of 1 mm. Molar relation was class III on the right side and super Class I on the left side. Slight crowding in lower arch and spacing in maxillary arch due to unerupted teeth was seen. The patient was diagnosed with Class III skeletal pattern associated with maxillary retrusion, average growth pattern, Class III molar relation on right side, super Class I molar relation on left side and a protrusive lower lip. The early tr...

Background: Cleft lip and palate is a congenital anomaly, presenting in a wide variety of forms and combinations. Successful cleft lip and cleft palate rehabilitation requires a multidisciplinary approach employing the skills of different specialists. Aims & Objectives: The aim of this paper was to present orthodontic preparation of patients prior to alveolar bone grafting & to review our findings in a group of patients treated by secondary and delayed bone-grafting procedures at our institution. Methodology: Thirty eight patients were examined for the type of cleft and the age at the time of examination. 10 patients were treated in our institution with presurgical orthodontics & operated by a delayed bone-grafting technique.  Duration and type of expansion was noted at pre-operative, 2 months and 6 months. Crestal bone heights and the quality of the bone in the grafted areas was examined radiographically, along with presence of any fistulas. Results: All the patients demonstrated i...

Objective: Different ethnic groups present variations in the various cephalometric analyses that are performed to determine the sagittal relation. This study is aimed at establishing the norms for Beta angle and Yen angle in Maratha population and to evaluate their reliability in sagittal malocclusions from amongst select local population. Materials and Method: A total of 120 samples were divided into three categories. 60 samples of Class I normal occlusion (30 males and 30 females) were used to establish the norms. 60 samples with skeletal Class II and Class III relation were used for checking the reliability of the established norms. Lateral cephalogram of all the samples was procured and tracings were done to calculate ANB Angle, Wits appraisal, McNamara differential, Beta angle and Yen angle. Oneway ANOVA was done to determine the means of Beta and YEN angle in Maratha population. Results: The Maratha population norms for Beta angle is 31.50 +/- 2.70 and for YEN angle is 122.20 ...

Results: The Maratha population norms for Beta angle is 31.5 0 +/-2.7 0 and for YEN angle is 122.2 0 +/-2.9 0. The values less than this indicate Class II relation and more than this indicate Class III relation. Conclusion: The established norms are reliable and comparable with the local population with no significant difference between the genders.

Result: Maxillary Arch Dimensions increased, PTID decreased, Upper and Lower incisors retroclined when evaluated before and 9 months after Adeno/tonsillectomy procedure, while exactly opposite results were observed in the control group. Conclusion: All the results suggested that Adeno/tonsillectomy procedures carried out at the right time (pre-pubertal) has overall positive effects on the dental arch dimensions. It prevents many forms of malocclusion from developing on one hand and on the other it also helps in correcting certain forms of malocclusion, if left untreated the obstruction of the airway has deleterious effects on overall facial profile.
