Describing ten years of this experience (2007-2016), this study shows several consequences of the conduction of a systematic assessment. Methodologically, a case study is performed based on the analysis of internal documentation produced. This includes a cross-analysis review of all the surveys conducted on users. The study concludes that efforts were made over the years to adapt services settings and frameworks and also responses to users' needs, focusing on four main points: changes in spaces, changes in collections and their marketing, changes in information literacy training offer and changes in strategic planning. All combined lead up to more than 80% of user satisfaction with library services provision.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Higher education in law is expected to develop students' skills such as working collabora... more Higher education in law is expected to develop students' skills such as working collaboratively, and communicating and influencing others through critical legal reasoning. Traditional legal education is partially based on active learning methods, but problem-based learning ("PBL") is still relatively absent, with a comparatively smaller number of field applications being reported in available literature, and no reports of the use of this method in legal education in Portugal. This paper describes the application of the problem-based learning methods to an Erasmus class of International Public Law in a Portuguese university, during an academic semester. The method was applied to half of the classes, with the remaining half being taught using traditional methods. Students' perceptions and preference for the different methods were assessed through surveys. In general, results suggest that student perceptions on the PBL method depend on their social skills and knowledge of the topics, as well as personal preference. Considering experiences from previous years, the teacher's assessment is that using PBL methods allowed for feedback and closer follow-up on the students' progress, and created the opportunity for the development of relevant skills, which would otherwise be excluded from the classroom. These results, as well as limitations, are discussed.

The objective of the study is to raise the perception of the students about the response of libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic to their information needs and to assess whether they consider themselves prepared to research, evaluate, and manage the retrieved information, now that they work autonomously and depend exclusively on digital content. Methods: Online questionnaire applied to three higher education libraries in Portugal—a public education institution, a polytechnic, and a private higher education institution. The questionnaire was submitted by institutional email and focused on the degree of satisfaction with the libraries and electronic resources made available and self-perceived evaluation of their information skills. The first results point that students are satisfied with access to electronic resources remotely; the highe...

For this purpose, we look at the status quo of how information literacy has been addressed in Portugal, discussing the aspects concerning public policies, which include an interconnection between scientific knowledge and public action. So, the main objective is to describe Public Policies for Information Literacy in Portugal. Public policies usually result from a sustained effort which places a certain topic on the social agenda. This public action agenda seeks to draw the attention of society and obtain the support of influential groups or people and politics of different levels of the government. At the same time, we look at the way scientific knowledge gives rise to legislation, guidelines or policy recommendations. Finally, we propose a series of lines for reflection and debate on this matter.

ABSTRACT Library spaces develop in response to multiple adjustments these services must make. The growing number of printed books, opening to diverse publics, adopting technologies transversely, and even open access have all generated the need to think over buildings and adapt areas, reflecting new circuits and interactions in their design, while at the same time attention is given to other social dynamics. The library assessment process has been recognised as a useful and valid tool to understand and take action in these services. Indeed, assessment methodologies allow future actions to be prepared in order to implement improvements, including at the level of areas. Through the observation of two academic libraries of the University of Lisbon (Faculdade de Medicina Dentária-FMD and Faculdade de Psicologia-FP e do Instituto de Educação-IE) this study seeks to verify, describe and explain how the areas of university libraries are used and how users' behaviour can be understand from this use. For this purpose an online survey was carried out, based on the ISO 16439 international standards: 2014-Information and documentation-Methods and procedures for assessing the impact of libraries. The data analysis provides a reflection which articulates the concepts of library areas in an academic context, and user behaviour regarding information.

ABSTRACT Introduction-Librarians and teachers have developed strategies in higher education to support students' academic performance, particularly due to information literacy skills, which are considered as a powerful intervention tool in the knowledge production. Open Science, centered on the axis of researching open sources / organizing open data / publishing in open access, also survives from the same skills and knowledge. Main purpose-The main purpose of this study is a reflection on higher education libraries mission and their contribution to Open Science as a source and result of scientific research, teaching and

torno do tema.
