A simple, selective and precise high performance thin layer chromatographic method was developed and validated for the determination of Cilostazol in bulk drug and in formulation. The method uses aluminium plates pre-coated with silica gel 60 F-254 as the stationary phase and hexane:acetone:chloroform (5:2:3, v/v/v) as solvent system. This system gave compact spot for Cilostazol (R f : 0.15 ± 0.01). Densitometric analysis of Cilostazol was performed in the absorbance mode at 254nm. The linear regression analysis data for the calibration plot showed good linear relationship over a concentration range of 1 – 10 µg spot -1 . The values of correlation coefficient, slope and intercept were 0.998, 1489 and 4915 respectively. The method was validated for precision, robustness and recovery. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were 0.089 and 0.269µg spot -1 , respectively. INTRODUCTION:

The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro potential of ethanolic extract of Caesalpinia bonducella seeds as a natural antioxidant. The DPPH activity of the extract (20, 40, 50, 100 and 200 microg/ml) was increased in a dose dependent manner, which was found in the range of 38.93-74.77% as compared to ascorbic acid (64.26-82.58%). The IC(50) values of ethanolic extract and ascorbic acid in DPPH radical scavenging assay were obtained to be 74.73 and 26.68 microg/ml, respectively. The ethanolic extract was also found to scavenge the superoxide generated by EDTA/NBT system. Measurement of total phenolic content of the ethanolic extract of C. bonducella was achieved using Folin-Ciocalteau reagent containing 62.50mg/g of phenolic content, which was found significantly higher when compared to reference standard gallic acid. The ethanolic extract also inhibited the hydroxyl radical, nitric oxide, superoxide anions with IC(50) values of 109.85, 102.65 and 89.84 microg/ml, respectively. However, the IC(50) values for the standard ascorbic acid were noted to be 70.79, 65.98 and 36.68 microg/ml respectively. The results obtained in this study clearly indicate that C. bonducella has a significant potential to use as a natural antioxidant agent.

Withania somnifera belongs to the Solanaceae family, commonly known as Ashwagandha, Indian ginseng or Winter cherry. It is an important commercial medicinal crop, considered as similar to Panax ginseng in Chinese medicine. Different parts of this plant are used in traditional medicine for the treatment of various ailments. It provides defense against diseases, adverse environmental factors and helps to retard the aging process. Ashwagandha exhibits a wide range of therapeutic properties by tuning the endocrine, cardiopulmonary, central nervous system and sexual behavior without any toxicity. The root has been used most frequently for therapeutic uses and is a constituent of over 200 formulations in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani medicines. There are several reports to establish its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antistress, memory enhancing, antiparkinsonian, hypolipidemic, antibacterial, cardiovascular, antioxidant, antitumor and adaptogenic properties. These properties stem from...

Methanolic extract and its ethyl acetate fraction of Cassia tora L. leaves were evaluated for anthelmintic property using the Indian adult earthworm (Pheretima posthuma) as a model. Among the earthworms the ethyl acetate fraction was potent. The results were compared with a standard drug, albendazole. The phytochemical analysis of both extracts showed the presence of phenolics like flavonoids and tannins as well as anthraquinones, which may be the active principle. The present study confirms the ethno-medicinal report of the plant as an anthelmintic drug.

egg yolk high-performance thin layer chromatography method a b s t r a c t An accurate, sensitive, precise, reliable, and quick method for the determination of cholesterol content by high-performance thin layer chromatography is developed. In this method, aluminum-backed precoated silica gel 60 F 254 plates were used as the stationary phase and the samples were sprayed with the help of CAMAG sample applicator Linomat 5. The chromatogram was developed with the mobile phase consisting of chlor-oform:methanol (9.5:0.5, v/v). The samples were detected using CAMAG Scanner 4 and evaluated using the method developed on winCATS software. Densitometric analysis of cholesterol was performed in absorbance mode at 200 nm. In this solvent system, cholesterol gave a compact spot with an R f value of 0.63 ± 0.03. The linear regression analysis of data for the calibration curve showed good linearity over a concentration range of 2e7 mg/spot with a regression value of 0.99933 and standard deviation of 1.44%. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were found to be 100 ng/spot and 500 ng/spot, respectively. Using the developed method, the concentration of cholesterol in the sapon-ified and unsaponified egg yolk sample was determined. This method was found to be reproducible and can even be used for samples containing complex matrices.

Amylases are enzymes which hydrolyze starch molecules to give diverse products including dextrin and progressively smaller polymers composed of glucose units. These enzymes are of great significance in present day industries ranging from food, fermentation, textile, paper to pharmaceutical industries. Based on growing concern and aware of environmental issues, industries find enzymes as a good alternative over other chemical catalysts. Enzymes from fungal and bacterial sources have dominated applications in industrial sectors. The ease of production and broad spectrum of applications make α-Amylase an industrially valuable biocatalyst. This review focuses on the production of bacterial and fungal α-amylases, their distribution, structural-functional aspects and their use in industrial applications.

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from silver nitrate using Ficus auriculata leaf decoction as a reducing agent has been elucidated with possible mechanism of reaction. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the extract revealed the presence phenolics, carbohydrates, flavonoids and saponins. HPTLC fingerprinting and further UPLC-Q-TOF mass spectroscopy analysis confirmed the presence of the flavonoid glycoside, rutin in the extract. The extract showed good antioxidant property in DPPH model. SEM and TEM analysis showed that the nanoparticles formed were of different morphologies with an average size of 19-21 nm. FT-IR spectral analysis showed the role of hydroxyl groups in the phytoconstituents as reducing agent in synthesis. The synthesized silver nanoparticles showed good antimicrobial potential when analysed against Photobacterium leiognathi, a very sensitive and accurate biosensor, by luminometry. Synthesized silver nanoparticles showed good morphological, dimensional and pharmacological properties.. Abstract The antioxidant polyphenolics such as rutin presents in the F. auriculata leaf extract acted as reducing agent in the green synthesize of silver nanoparticle. Possible mechanism of action and bioactivity are also elucidated.

Caesalpinia bonducella FLEMING (Caesalpiniaceae) is a plant well known for its medicinal value in Indian Ayurveda. However, to prove its efficiency for the clinical utilization, more experimental data will be beneficial. The present study involved the investigation of immunomodulatory activities of ethanolic extract of Caesalpinia bonducella seeds.Neutrophil adhesion test, haemagglutinating antibody (HA) titre, delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response, phagocytic activity and cyclophosphamide-induced myelosuppression were determined by in vivo experiments. The evaluation of immunomodulatory potential by oral administration of ethanolic seed extract of Caesalpinia bonducella (200–500 mg/kg) evoked a significant increase in percent neutrophil adhesion to nylon fibers as well as a dose-dependent increase in antibody titre values, and potentiated the delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction induced by sheep red blood cells. Also it prevented myelosuppression in cyclophosphamide drug treated rats and good response towards phagocytosis in carbon clearance assay. The results obtained in this study indicate that Caesalpinia bonducella possesses potential immunomodulatory activity and has therapeutic potential for the prevention of autoimmune diseases.
