My latest research has been on developing the concept of intersectional equality. This project conceptualizes diversity and equality goals for responsible organizations and I am currently planning a research project on inclusion measures in German schools. My research is interdisciplinary and cross-cultural, and I work both empirically and conceptually. One major theme in my research is the exploration of issues around inclusion and equality due to gender and diversity. I was trained originally in comparative world religions at Harvard Divinity School, so I have long explored diverse cultures and different approaches to justice and ethics. The concept of intersectional equality in organizations is a project related to this first theme of my research on equality and diversity.A second theme in my research is a comparative perspective on policy and policymaking around diversity, employment and care issues. My book Family Policy in Transformation (Palgrave 2012) and recent articles explore such measures in German, British, and US public sectors, especially in relation to parents and those with long-term care responsibilities. I also wrote and acquired grants to explore, among other topics, migrant care chains across the global North-South divide, as well as issues around quality of care for long-term care patients, and working conditions in the care industry. In addition, I have conducted a comparative study on family policies in autocratic countries. My teaching experience spans diverse learning groups. I taught bachelor’s and master’s classes in social science topics at Tübingen University from 2004 to 2016, and sociology classes from 2016 to 2018 at Konstanz University. From 2012 to 2014 I taught additional classes as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences, Ludwigsburg and I taught organizational studies topics and methods at Radboud University in the Netherlands. My classes have included both required and elective classes, and I have (team-)taught larger pre-designed classes. I have also completely designed seminars myself. Regarding settings, I have held lectures for 200 students, taught many seminars and smaller work groups, and I have supervised theses. I have taught classes in my native English and in my acquired language of German and I am currently teaching inclusion classes in a secondary school.
