Background. The paper is associated with the 120th anniversary of the birt of Alexey Nikolaevich Leontiev, acknowledged classic of the world psychology. This anniversary of the founder of a scientific school in psychology and of the department of psychology at Moscow State University has given rise to reflections on the “task for meaning” of Leontiev’s personality, his theory and its modern implementations. Objective. The study is a professional reflection on the importance of A.N. Leontiev’s personality and his activity theory approach for the psychological science of these days as well as the explication of meanings implied in the special thematic issue of this journal. Results. “The field of meanings” associated with A.N. Leontiev is being revealed through the analysis of cultural-historical, life and scientific contexts. The intertwined lines of A.N. Leontiev’s life activity are singled out: the scientific one (a fundamental theory, suggesting a holistic concept of human being),...

The stock theme of this work is the development of conceptualization of a mission and nature of education as a leading social activity participating in generation of such systematic social and mental effects of the public life as formation of civil, ethno-cultural, and panhuman identity; the dynamics of social differentiation and stratification of the society; adoption of various traditions, values, norms, and behavioral components of attitude for large and minor social groups; acquisition of a repertoire of personal, social, and professional competencies supporting individualization, socialization, and professionalization of a person within the system of individuals and professions; and development of human potential as the most important condition of national competitive performance.

COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the person, the society, and the whole human civilization, and it also has challenged the human sciences. The discussion raises a fundamental problem: the collision between psychology and the need to rethink the understanding of а person. A person is considered in the transition from an abstract «psychological» individual to a real, concrete, living person in his bodily, organismic embodiment (or in the aspect of a natural biological subject). The question of expanding the cultural-historical understanding of a person through the prism of his individual history in mastering socio-historical experience is raised. The idea of a critical, emergency situation is introduced not only in the optics of society and nature in the whole or in abstract-hypothetical constructs, but also at the level of individual life of a person. The authors reflect an importance of considering the extreme situation of human existence in theoretical conceptions, not only as an applied problem. Negative interpretations of an extreme, emergency situation require conceptualization in  terms of positivity – as a source of overcoming, solving life problems, development, and discovering, opening new experience. In addition, the concept of practice in psychology, which was mentioned by L. Vygotsky, also requires a radical revision. The practice of helping should be considered not only an applied branch in psychology, but in its fundamental, theoretical meaning, revealing psychological helping as the implementation of caring practice. The authors agree, that the existence of a person under the global threat of COVID-19 pandemic radically changes the interaction between a person and society. Global pandemic affects social practices to reveal a person in the context of new relation towards society. Public life is put «on pause» in order to protect a life of individual person. The phenomenon of death, that was previously subjected to theoretical repression in psychology, is now considered to be a part of human life. Meaning as the meaning of life has to be correlated with the meaning of death, which allows to reveal the existence of a person in the fullness of his life and being.

The problem of consciousness is one of the core problems in the contemporary cogni-tive science. Driven by the neuroimaging boom, most researchers look for the neural correlates or signatures of consciousness and awareness in the human brain. However, we believe that the explanatory potential of the cultural-historical activity approach to this problem is far from being exhausted. We propose Cognitive Psychology of Activity research program, or the activity theory-based constructivism as an attempt to account for multiple phenomena of human awareness and attention. This approach relies upon cultural-historical psychology and the concept of mediation by Lev S. Vygotsky, activity theory and the concept of image generation by Alexey N. Leontiev, the physiology of ac-tivity and the metaphor of movement construction by Nikolai A. Bernstein, transferred to the psychology of perception as image construction by a number of Russian researchers in 1960-es, and the understanding of attention a...

This chapter explains the strategy for the sociocultural reform of education as a socialization institution that plays a key role in the focused development of value systems, standards, paradigms, and behavioral patterns in the population of Russia. The author reveals the role education plays in modeling such phenomena of social development as the social consolidation of society, the civil identity of representatives of various social groups and national cultures, the encouragement of social confidence, the successful socialization of oncoming generations, and the social stratification of the population of Russia. This chapter also considers the bene fits of the sociocultural reform of education as a growth driver for the competitive strength of the individual, the society, and the state and for the further design of long-term programs for the social and economic development of Russia, including the federal education-development program.

The blogs as the platform for a virtual personality construction are considered in the article on the assumption of the positions of L.S. Vygotsky’s cultural-historical approach. Internet journalism practices are considered as the example for the processes of virtual «I» formation. The authors affirm that the appearance of consecutive and stable «I-representation» in Internet is the necessary condition for a change in dynamics of social nets development from motives which are out of Internet (in physical space) towards situation when a virtual personality is enough full-fledged to be a motive for new social interactions creation not leaving Internet. As a result a virtual personality turns into a net-creating factor and Internet loses its unoriginality in relation to physical space.

Background. discussion of the social origins of personality formation, based on the biological individual, is a characteristic feature of modern interdisciplinary researches at the junction of natural science and the humanities. At the same time, evolutionary aspects of the relationship between the biological (innate) and the social (acquired)-i.e., the problem of the origin of sociality-come to the forefront. Objective. This article presents and discusses the hypothesis that the evolutionary origins of sociality are processes of evolutionary divergence (increasing individual diversity) and convergence (symbiosis) that define two oppositely directed vectors of the development of life from its simplest forms. Method and Results. The theoretical and experimental data used to discuss the hypothesis are considered here from the standpoint of the historical evolutionary approach to the processes of formation (evolution) of the uniqueness of the personality and of social interpersonal relations. The approach is based on an understanding of these processes as a special case of the evolution of interacting systems on the basis of two opposing trends-towards preserving and towards changing the system. The hypothesis allows us to answer two questions about the ambivalence of human existence in society: (a) Why do all people, regardless of their social status, find it so difficult to endure loneliness, which is incompatible with both the mental and even physical health of each of us? (b) Why at the same time do all of us involuntarily protect the "boundaries" of our own physical, mental, and social "Me", the violation of which is as destructive (unacceptable) to us as is loneliness? Conclusion. Systematic historical-evolutionary analysis of the sciences of nature, society, and humankind allows us to isolate general patterns of development of complex systems, leading to a more accurate understanding of the phenomenon of personality. Such an interdisciplinary approach was used in this work on the biological roots of sociality and the particular features of individual existence in the external and to some extent social environment that generates unique individuals.

The article shows that it is mainly due to the theory of open nonequilibrium systems developed by I.R. Prigogine, nonclassical biology of purposeful activity of N.A. Bernstein, and modern theories and new facts discovered in evolutionary biology at the boundary of XX and XXI centuries, that a “rediscovery of time” (I. Prigogine), as well as a rediscovery of evolution, takes place. The phenomenology of nonadaptive manifestations in biology, sociology and psychology, which are perceived as failures and errors of evolution, and the idea of preadaptation to an unpredictable future used for their interpretation, from the ground of research turn into its figure. Based on these facts we justify the hypothesis of preadaptation to uncertainty as a strategy for navigation of the developing systems. It is proved that preadaptation to uncertainty is the key tool for generating redundancy of biological, cognitive, social and psychological diversity. The process of evolution, understood as solving of different types of problems for uncertainty, is associated with two complementary modes of the dynamics of historical changes: the adaptive “evolution of trends” mode, which determines the stability and specialization of species-specific and socio-specific forms of behavior; and preadaptive “evolution of rebellion” mode, which provides pre-specialization and universal readiness for change, and generates new forms of life. The hypothesis of preadaptation to uncertainty is the first step to the formation of evolutionary psychodynamics as a hybrid area in psychology, linking it with the sciences which study unpredictable mechanisms of changes in the history of man, nature and society.

Regardless of diverse understandings of the nature of methodology of psychology, or, more precisely, methodology of cognition, authors of the following dialogues, made in the genre of mirrored interview, both feel very near concern over metaphorical characteristic of methodology as art of asking questions. In history of science a question, put elaborately, often gains the status of a problem, which is being solved as a provocative riddle by generations of researchers, theoreticians, thinkers, representatives of different scientific schools, intellectual movements, research programs and cognitive paradigms. In this matter we would like to turn to the question raised by I.M. Sechenov in 1873: " Who should and how to develop psychology ". Let's note that the question itself happened to be not less meaningful than the multiple answers: answers of behaviorists and physiologists, including I.M. Sechenov himself, answers of introspectionists, masters of psychoanalysis and Gestalt psychology… Each psychologist may continue this range with his own names, thus undergoing a kind of projective test to which scientific school or research program he places himself. Authors were inspired to discuss eternal methodological problems, actual past and constructive future by a questionnaire proposed several years ago by editorial board of journal " Methodology and History of Psychology ". The following are two mirrored interviews, where interviewers swap places and thus used such heuristic manoeuvre by J. Piaget as decentration.

Recently the lack of synthetical concepts can be seen in the field of biological, social and mental sciences. Synthesis is claimed to be achieved in sinergetics and postmodern evolution theories, as well as in system and network analysis of complex systems. Meanwhile, the unique layer of approaches to evolution as to the growth of diversity is highly underestimated) and others). Vernadsky had the most pronounced and concise ideas about the role of the mind (psyche) in the growth of systems' diversity and variability. It made him consider the modern time as a " psychozoic " era. We must emphasize that in the context of the evolutionary biology such view on the mind as on an important factor in the expansion of the range of diversity appeared in the works of Severtzov, who introduced the problem of " the evolution and the mind " , and Uexkull, who provided rationalization of biosemiotics and constructive ecology. These ideas conflicted with the view on the homeostasis as on the key factor in evolution processes. Homeostatic processes limited any development to pursuance of balance including adaptation to the " already happened " , thus excluding any pre-adaption to the unpredictable and undefined situations (Vavilov, Lotman).

In modern science, along with the " classic " and " non-classical " approach to solving fundamental and applied problems, there is an actively developing " postnonclassical " research paradigm. This renovation of general scientific methodology has been accompanied by the emergence of new experimental technologies and new scientific research directions based on them. " Social psychophysiology " is one such direction. It is formed within the frame of postnonclassical methodology at the intersection of neuroscience and psychology. This work is devoted to the analytical review of the methods, achievements and prospects of contemporary social neuroscience and social psychophysiology studying brain structures that are specifically related to the implementation of social forms of behavior and intercultural communication. Physiological studies of brain activity during social interaction processes, which are simulated using virtual reality environments, are analyzed, and the physiological approach to the study of the brain mechanisms associated with social perception, social cognition and social behavior is used. Along with the analysis of psychophysiological studies of the mechanisms of social perception and social cognition, we discuss the theories of " Brain Reading " and " Theory of Mind " and the underlying data concerning " Gnostic neurons recognition of persons and recognition of emotional facial expressions " , " mirror neurons " , " emotional resonance " and " cognitive resonance ". Particular emphasis is placed on the discussion of a fundamentally new trend in the study of the relationship between the brain and culture (i.e., " cultural neurosci-ence "). Related to this connection, the following topics are raised: physiological mechanisms protecting the " individual distance " in communication between members of a personified community, psychophysiological approaches to the study of cross-cultural differences, physiological mechanisms of social classification (particularly the formation of attitudes toward representatives of various social groups and toward the content of socially oriented information), and psychophysiological approaches to the study of processes of social classification in the field of intercultural relations (racial perception, stereotypes and prejudices).

The mind-body problem is analysed in the context of the progressive evolution of complex purposeful living systems. The risks of the hypothesis of the identity of mental and neurobiological presentation of multidimensional reality are revealed. Accepting this hypothesis leads to reductive "effect of simplification of life, to the barriers to dialogue between neuroscience, cognitive science and psychology. Particular attention is paid to the study of the evolutionary sense of preadaptive and adaptive tasks, which produce different forms of mental presentations of the world, including consciousness as "expecting the unexpected". We consider different forms of mental representation of reality, as well as underlying structural and functional neurobiological network structures.

The following article is an introduction to the project “Psychology of the Modernity: Challenges of Uncertainty, Complexity, and Diversity”. The motives behind the creation of this project are discussed, and the construct «psychology of modernity». There are different features of modernity described; a special focus is on the mechanisms of generating uncertainty in development of open structures. A hypothesis of evolutionary meaning of art and religion in invention of modernity is formulated. A role of historical-evolutionary methodology of interdisciplinary cognition as an integrative programme of psychology, which allows the latter to enter into a constructive dialogue with the broad range of sciences of nature, society and human, is recognized.

During a lifetime of a science, as well as during a lifetime of a man, there are periods of a heavy emotional experience/sharp understanding of crisis of its own existence. Such experience has a special psychotherapeutic sense, which can be conveyed rephrasing a famous expression of Descartes: «I experience a crisis, therefore I am». Experiencing of crises followed psychology as a whole, as well as various scientific schools, research programs and theoretical approaches of our science on its developmental path. These words are fully relevant to the attempt to apperceive the latest crisis of cultural activity approach, which we make in this article.

The blogs as the platform for a virtual personality construction are considered in the article on the assumption of the positions of Lev S. Vygotsky’s cultural-historical approach. Internet journalism practices are considered as the example for the processes of virtual “I” formation. The authors affirm that the appearance of consecutive

physical space towards situation when a virtual personality is enough full-fledged to be a motive for new social interactions creation not leaving Internet. As a result a virtual personality turns into a net-creating factor and Internet loses its unoriginality in relation to physical space. Using Lev Vygotsky’s “internal speech” concept, the article suggests to consider this interaction as a dairy discourse – “A dialog of
internal voices”, which turns a virtual personality from the product of self representation into the product of social interaction. The authors affirm that the ability to
construct a virtual personality is the integral part for personality formation in the new information society and propose to regard journalism practices as one of the
methods of effective self representation in Internet.

In the 21st century, scientists representing different disciplines which investigate
human evolution, nature, and society, acknowledge that the ancient warning about the risks and dangers in the times of change is a prophecy that has come true. The transformation of the times of change in a reality of our flowing time boosted the development of the emerging directions in psychological science, such as psychology of uncertainty and diversity, psychology of complexity, psychology of transforming personality. All these psychological disciplines are integrated into the project «Mobilis in mobili: Personality in Times of Changes».

This is a little book with big and very worthwhile ambitions. Building on one of the most brilliant traditions of twentieth century psychology, Alexander Asmolov seeks to formulate an approach that transcends the limitations of today's disciplinary isolation and reductionism. The groundwork for this approach comes from the ideas of Vygotsky, but Asmolov goes well beyond these in several respects. Indeed, he has spent his career developing a perspective that incorporates the insights of figures such as D.N. Uznadze and A.N. Leontiev alongside those of Vygotsky, the result being that he has become one of the major figures in contemporary Russian psychology. In the current volume he extends his long-standing effort in important new ways.
