COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TARGET LANGUAGE TRANSLATIONS OF TEXTS BY ADY
The author of the paper compares equivalences used in linguistic translation theory with the important correlations of literary translation. Instead of equivalence Toury (1980, 2007) proposes the extension of the triple relationship of adequacy–appropriacy–acceptability to the translation. Translating literary texts translators usually strive to achieve acceptability which means conformity with the expectations of the target language recipients. But conformity with the cultural and literary canons of the target language is just as important. This latter one coincides with the aspects of relevance theory in connection with translation. The author analyses the English and the Russian text variants of Endre Ady’s poem Kocsi-út az éjszakában (Tracking on a Cart Tonight; Night vagon). She compares the recreation of the images ensuring text coherence (repetition, antithesis and parallelism) in the target language texts. The reasons for modifications emerging in the texts may be different. They can be caused by the differences in the typologically diverse languages, the translators’ individual interpretations and translation principles as well as the differences in the text-forming canons. Keywords: equivalence, acceptability, cultural and text-forming canon, repetition, antithesis, parallelism.

In this paper we deal with a number of theoretical questions of language variativity. Variativity shows the existence and functioning of variants that occur together in language use. Variants are defined as instances of linguistic variation that are similar in form, equivalent in denotative, lexical and grammatical meanings, but whose pragmatic meanings are different, so they are used in different real-life situations of communication. Our starting point was the phenomena of symmetry and asymmetry in connection with language change. We intended to clarify the differences between variativity and variability, and the relationship between variativity and language norm. Then we discussed the place of variant forms among language variables and the connection between variants and the invariant. Finally, we reviewed the types of variants at diverse levels of language based on the Hungarian and international literature. We are interested in this area because it is known by Hungarian and foreign linguists even if in the published literature it is analyzed from the aspect of sociolinguistics and not from a prescriptive viewpoint. Therefore, linguists tend to use different terminology in dealing with variativity, and that is the reason why there is overlapping and ambiguity between variativity and similar lexico-semantic relationships (synonymy, polysemy, paronymy) as well as other linguistic phenomena (word split, doublets, convergent development of form and meaning).

Első kötetét 1916-ban publikálta Радуница

A kommunikáció-központú anyanyelvoktatás, a kreatív szövegalkotás és szövegér-tés elsajátíttatása, a szövegek nyelvi, stilisztikai helyességére való nevelés megkö-veteli a kreatív nyelvelsajátításhoz elengedhetetlen odafigyelést. Különösen az ötödik-hatodik osztály nyelvi fejlesztése nehéz, mert az integrációs elvárások és a komplexitás, funkcionalitás érvényesítéséhez való igazodás, a szám-talan tantárgyi részterület (nyelvtan, helyesírás, beszéd, olvasás, írásbeli és szóbeli szövegalkotás stb.) átfogó megtanítása igen komoly feladat elé állítja a tanárokat. A korábbi hagyományos oktatási módszerekkel a tanár nem is tudja ezt megtenni, a reflektív tanulás módszereivel és a kooperatív technikák alkalmazásával kell inspi-rálnia a tanulókat a magasabb szintű gondolkodási műveletek elvégzésére, ismere-teik hatékony működtetésére (vö. The author of the book discusses the various theoretical issues of the contrastive linguistics, in addition the main questions of the translation as the one of the disciplines of the contrastive linguistics. The main issues of the first part of the monograph are: the origins of languages, the language topology, the areal linguistics, language contacts, bilingualism, and the basic concepts of contrastive research method. There are some questions of the translation: the basic definition of translation, the types of equivalence, the transfer and interference, the phenomena of translation exchange operations. The first part ends with a brief historical overview of translation of theoretical science. In the second part of the book the author deals with the issues of literary translation, explaining theme in more detail, than they were explained in the first part describing the general characteristics of the linguistic theory of translation study. The author would like to give pointers to issues raised by the post-modern literary translation theory. Literary translation is a pragmatic adaptation, rewriting the source-language texts according to the the literary canon of the target-language culture. The most valuable part of the book is the analysis of the English and Russian translations of the Hungarian poetry and prose texts. The author used the contrastive method of analysis of texts on the grammatical, semantic and pragmatic level of the texts. The literature, the index and the list of names facilitates orientation of readers in the theme.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TARGET LANGUAGE
TRANSLATIONS OF TEXTS BY ADY
The author of the paper compares equivalences used in linguistic translation theory with the
important correlations of literary translation. Instead of equivalence Toury (1980, 2007) proposes the
extension of the triple relationship of adequacy–appropriacy–acceptability to the translation.
Translating literary texts translators usually strive to achieve acceptability which means
conformity with the expectations of the target language recipients. But conformity with the cultural
and literary canons of the target language is just as important. This latter one coincides with the
aspects of relevance theory in connection with translation.
The author analyses the English and the Russian text variants of Endre Ady’s poem Kocsi-út
az éjszakában (Tracking on a Cart Tonight; Night vagon). She compares the recreation of the images
ensuring text coherence (repetition, antithesis and parallelism) in the target language texts. The reasons
for modifications emerging in the texts may be different. They can be caused by the differences in the
typologically diverse languages, the translators’ individual interpretations and translation principles as
well as the differences in the text-forming canons.
Keywords: equivalence, acceptability, cultural and text-forming canon, repetition, antithesis,
parallelism.
Theoretical questions of language variativity

The author of the book discusses the various theoretical issues of the
contrastive linguistics, in addition the main questions of the translation as the one of the disciplines of the contrastive linguistics.
The main issues of the first part of the monograph are: the origins of
languages, the language topology, the areal linguistics, language contacts, bilingualism, and the basic concepts of contrastive research method.
The most valuable part of the book is the analysis of the English and
Russian translations of the Hungarian poetry and prose texts. The author used the contrastive method of analysis of texts on the grammatical, semantic and pragmatic level of the texts.
The literature, the index and the list of names facilitates orientation of
readers in the theme.
