Hungarian language

A magyar helynévkutatásnak igen kiterjedt irodalma van. Akit a nyelvészeti kutatásoknak ez a rendkívül izgalmas részterülete mélyebben érdekel, annak célszerű közvetlenül Hoffmann István Magyar helynévkutatás : 1958-2002 című, 2003-ban Debrecenben megjelent munkájához, továbbá a szintén debreceni Tóth Valéria vagy más kutatók értékes tanulmányaihoz fordulnia.
A Finnugor Tudástár-sorozat 28. füzete csupán arra vállalkozik, hogy a Központi Statisztikai Hivatal által legutóbb kiadott Magyarország közigazgatási helynévkönyve 2019. január 1. címet viselő helységnévtár teljes névanyagát egy alfabetikus listában, továbbá egy szóvégek szerint rendezett, fordított, „atergó” listában megjelenítse, majd ezek alapján az összetett, több szóból álló névanyagból kiemelje azokat az előtagokat és utótagokat, amelyek legalább két különböző helyneven megjelennek, és ezáltal a hagyományos disztribúciós módszerrel leválaszthatók a „névmaradékokról”.
A KSH hivatalos helynévlistája 3155 közigazgatási egységet határoz meg, a postai irányítószámok jegyzékében azonban még további 35 olyan külön irányítószámmal ellátott településmegnevezés található, amelyek az időközben bekövetkezett változásoknak (települések közigazgatási összevonásának, átnevezésének stb.) estek „áldozatul”.
Az általam itt vizsgált helynévlista ezekkel együtt 3190 helynevet tartalmaz. Az alfabetikus lista összeállításához a hivatalos helynévtárból kezdő-betűk szerinti „csomagokban” emeltem át elektronikusan a névanyagot, elhagyva a területi (járási) azonosítókat, lakosságszámokat stb.
Ezt a listát egészítettem ki azokkal az eltérésekkel, amelyek az 1988-as postai irányítószámok jegyzékében voltak fellelhetők. Az így összeállított névanyagot A helységnevek alfabetikus listája címmel építettem be a kiadványba, meghagyva az eredeti „antivokalikus” (a, á; e, é stb. egyben) hivatalos ábécérendet.
Ennek a névanyagnak készült egy elektronikus atergó listája is: ehhez táblázatos formában minden névhez egy másik oszlopban manuálisan hozzáírtam a szó „tükörképét”, majd ezt a második oszlopot rendeztettem a hivatalos ábécérendbe. Ahhoz azonban, hogy az utótagok könnyebben azonosíthatók legyenek, a rövid és hosszú magánhangzós szavakat további finomításként, manuális átrendezéssel szétválasztottam.
A helységnevek atergó listája ezt a szigorúbb ábécérendet követi. Az így átrendezett listákból gyűjtöttem ki azokat az előtagokat és utótagokat, amelyeknek legalább két teljesen azonos képviselete volt a névanyagban.

The aim of this study is to discuss the genderlessness of Hungarian, which is a relative term, as gender in linguistics is used to refer both to a grammatical category – which is often although not necessarily connected to social male/female gender divisions – and to the lexical, textual, pragmatic, etc. expressions of social and/or biological gender, which, exist in all languages. In this sense, although there are many languages in different parts of the world and in various language families without grammatical gender, there is no genderless language. Speakers of grammatically genderless languages, comparing their language to well-known Western European languages, which have sex-based grammatical gender categories, often believe that their language is exceptional and even superior in that its genderless character represents an inherent sense of equality of all human beings. However, a lack of linguistic gender does not reflect a more gender-neutral society, as already illustrated in earlier volumes of this series, for Turkish (Braun 2001), Finnish  (Engelberg 2002), Chinese (Zhang 2002), and Japanese (Smith 2003).

This paper focuses on the circumstances surrounding Hungarian language maintenance in Cleveland, Ohio, home to one of the most important Hungarian-American communities in the USA. Built in the 1890's by Cleveland's Hungarian residents, the first Hungarian schools were organized in the Roman Catholic, Reformed and Greek Catholic Churches on Buckeye Road. St. Emeric Parish, established in 1904 on the nearby west side area, is the location for both the Hungarian School and scouting movement. In higher education, Hungarian Studies had its beginnings in Hungarian cultural courses held at Western Reserve University. As of the 1960s, the center for Hungarian Studies could be found at Cleveland State University. Following a lengthy hiatus, this program has recently been reestablished at the Department of Modern Languages.

A mai magyar nyelvben a fosztóképzőnek a mély és magas hangrendű eredeti -talan, -telen alapváltozat mellett kialakultak a magánhangzós tővégekhez igazodó mássalhangzó-torlódásos -tlan, -tlen változatai, majd ezekből a főként mássalhangzós végű igetövek miatt létrejöttek az -atlan, -etlen előhangzós és torlódásos változatok is. A ható igék -hat- képzőjének mindegyikéhez ezek az előhangzós képzőváltozatok kapcsolódnak. Végül egyes t végű töveknél – a hangismétléses „dadogó” formák elkerülése érdekében kialakultak szabálytalan -lan, -len alakú képzőváltozatok is: okvet-etlen > okvet-len stb.

This paper compares the opening sequences of Finnish, French and Hungarian YouTube videos. We concentrate on addressing, greeting and related gestures, important elements when YouTubers interact with their imagined viewers, using data consisting of 138 videos in the three languages. This study falls within the field of the pragmatics of social media and interpersonal pragmatics, and data were analysed using multimodal discourse analysis. Shared practices included the frequent use of greetings, a preference for general nominal address forms as well as for iconic and deictic gestures. Cross-cultural differences revealed that Finnish and Hungarian were closer to each other than to French. Shared practices may be connected to the genre of YouTube videos, whereas differences appear related to cross-cultural practices generally.

Quien se asome al presente volumen encontrará una selección de los mejores estudios presentados en las IX Jornadas de Cultura y Literatura Húngaras, celebradas en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid en noviembre de 2020. Estas ventanas al mundo húngaro permiten mirar, por un lado, hacia las relaciones culturales de España y Hungría a partir de sus lenguas y su docencia o la presencia del teatro húngaro en España, o bien, por otro lado, a figuras tan relevantes de la literatura húngara como Janus Pannonius, Sándor Márai, Krisztina Tóth y los muchos autores húngaros que, a raíz del COVID-19, han escrito una literatura de emergencia. En definitiva, estos 9 estudios analizan aspectos culturales, lingüísticos y literarios con profundidad. En su conjunto son un claro ejemplo de la buena salud de la hungarología en lengua española y de la vitalidad de las Jornadas Húngaras de la Universidad Complutense, que en 2020 llegaron a su novena edición.

This paper presents a spatio-temporal data mining regarding the origin of the names of the 218 longest European rivers. The study shows that 35.2% of these river names originate in the Near East and Southern Caucasus. The study also investigates the origin of European mountain names. It is shown that at least 26 mountain names originate from Africa.

A nyelvközösségek által használt színelnevezések – legyenek azok alapszínnevek vagy
árnyalatoknak szókapcsolattal, szóösszetétellel alkotott nevei – nagyban függnek a kulturális
és természeti környezettől, amelyben keletkeztek, és amelyben idővel változnak.
A színpercepció személyenként is változik, hiszen a színnevek melléknévi használatban
fokozhatók (pl. szürkébb, zöldebb). Ez azt is mutatja, hogy a beszélőknek a tudatában
létezik egy prototipikus árnyalat (a vizsgálandó színt véve alapul: egy prototipikus szürke),
amelyhez képest egy dologról, jelenségről mondhatjuk, hogy például szürkébb. Így
természetesen a színárnyalatok megnevezésére használt szavaink, kifejezéseink egy-egy
konkrét helyzetben egyénenként változhatnak: mondhatjuk egy tárgyról, hogy kékeszöld
vagy zöldeskék attól függően, hogy melyik (alap)színt érezzük dominánsnak, és erre az árnyalatra
akár használhatjuk a türkiz(színű) megnevezést is. Azonban az egyéni percepción
túl szükségünk van olyan megnevezésekre is, amelyeket a közösség minden tagja ugyanúgy
értelmez, még akkor is, ha az egyének prototipikus színárnyalat-percepciója eltérő.
Tanulmányomban bemutatom azokat a megnevezéseket, amelyekkel a szürke tartományába
tartozó árnyalatokat illette a magyar nyelvközösség a 16. század eleje és a 19.
század vége között.

This presentation of the Hungarian language is based upon the Functional Discourse Grammar (Hengeveld and Mackenzie 2008) and offers a totally new approach to language teaching and Hungarian language. Special attention is devoted to pragmatics, which plays a very important role in Hungarian syntax. Traditional grammatical terminology is restricted to a few terms.

A német szakirodalomban „Alterslinguistik”-nek nevezett részdiszciplínához sorolható tanulmány (vö. Neuland 2012) a digitális kommunikáció ismeretét, használatát és az ahhoz kötődő, intergenerációs kommunikációs kapcsolatok és esetleges
problémák felmérését tűzte ki célul, 65 év feletti adatközlők interjús megkérdezésével.
A minta kis mérete miatt a vizsgálat eredményei nem általánosíthatók, ám mutatnak új irányokat a hasonló jellegű felmérések számára.
Összegezve megállapíthatjuk, hogy az általam vizsgált szenior adatközlők fele nem használ számítógépet; ám aki mégis, annak az internethasználatban rendszerint a két generációval fiatalabbak nyújtanak segítséget; és bár az egyik adatközlő esetében jellemző az e-mail és egyéb internetes szolgáltatások használata, az internethez két esetben is a Facebook közösségi oldal jelenti az ablakot. Mindannyian beszámoltak arról, hogy a digitális kommunikációval kapcsolatos témák esetén nem teljes értékűen tudnak részt venni a fiatalabbakkal történő beszélgetésben – ami a generációs gap meglétére utal.

Situé à une certaine distance de la réalité, le proverbe est une transposition, une sorte de traduction. « Traduire » un proverbe d'une langue dans une autre est donc une double transposition. Autrement dit : il faut chercher les équivalents d'un élément lexical au 1er niveau et des proverbes au 2nd. Le lecteur ou le traducteur d'un texte dans une langue source a donc besoin d'aide quelquefois même pour se rendre compte qu'un énoncé est un proverbe, souvent pour l'interpréter et presque toujours pour en trouver l'équivalent le plus adéquat dans la langue cible. Cette aide doit venir d'un dictionnaire. De quel dictionnaire ? Soit d'un dictionnaire général, soit d'un dictionnaire de proverbes. Voyons les deux cas.

The purpose of this paper is to prove conclusively that Hungarian and by extension all Uralic languages are not a group of languages developed in isolation of other languages but are instead a unique branch of Indo-Aryan. This was made possible by recognizing that Latin, not Slavic or German, was the source of most Hungarian loans, and then extending the same pattern of reduction observed occurring with Latin words to Sanskrit words. All of the required consonant sound changes are identified, as well as the major steps necessary for a complete reconstruction of the transition from Sanskrit to Hungarian. To support the identified processes of change, a complete Holman list is presented. An additional 2,000 Indic-Hungarian words were reconstructed to rule out random chance as the source of the identified sound changes, but are not included in this paper. Some of those Indic-Hungarian words are already the subject of controversy, so they will be explained in more detail. And finally, from this Indic-Hungarian reconstruction, the meaning of the Hungarian self-reference Magyar is identified. Only Hungarian is discussed in this paper.

Egy nyelv legdinamikusabb része a szókészlet, amely sokkal változékonyabb a nyelvtani rendszernél vagy a hangrendszernél. Az anyanyelvi oktatás egyik feladata megláttatni a diákokkal, hogy a nyelv nem egy stagnáló, hanem folyamatosan mozgásban lévő rendszer. A szókészlet dinamikusságának bizonyítéka az új szavak, kifejezések, jelentésárnyalatok, nyelvtani formák szüntelen megjelenése. A neologizmusokra való reflektálás helyet kap a szlovákiai magyarnyelv-tankönyvekben (Bolgár Katalin–Bukorné Danis Erzsébet: Magyar nyelv
az alapiskola 9. osztálya és a nyolcosztályos gimnázium 4. osztálya számára; Csicsay Károly–Kulcsár Mónika: Magyar nyelv. Tankönyv a középfokú szakmunkásképző iskolák 1–3. osztálya számára; Uzonyi Kiss Judit–Csicsay Károly: Magyar nyelv. Tankönyv a gimnáziumok és a
szakközépiskolák II. osztálya számára) is: a Kazinczy-féle nyelvújítási mozgalom kapcsán, a kiegészítő szókészlet, a diáknyelv, valamint a publicisztikai stílus taglalása során. Meglátásom szerint azonban nem fektet elég hangsúlyt a szókészlet mindenkori változására, a mai magyar
nyelvújulásra és nyelvújításra. Tanulmányomban ezért e tankönyvi részekhez javasolnék kiegészítést mind az elméleti tananyagrész, mind pedig a feladatok, gyakorlatok bővítésével.

A jenyiszejiekkel kapcsolatban, mindössze egy hsziungnu–jenyiszeji etimológia alapján, elsőként Ligeti (1950) feltételezte, hogy a hsziungnu nép leszármazottai voltak. Pulleyblank (1962) ugyanezt állította több fonológiai és etimológiai bizonyíték felmutatásával. Jelen tanulmány megállapítja, hogy tíz magyar alapszótőnek ténylegesen van etimológiai megfelelője a jenyiszeji nyelvekben. Ésszerű azt feltenni, hogy ezek az etimonok egy hun szubsztrátumhoz tartoznak, amely rokonságban áll a jenyiszejivel. Ezen tíz újonnan felfedezett magyar és jenyiszeji közös etimológia között szabályos hangváltozást lehet kikövetkeztetni három szónál: A magyar -ó (-ava-) rím összefüggésbe hozható a proto-jenyiszeji *-Vgǝ rímmel (tó – *degǝ, hó – *qogǝ ’jég’, só – *t’ǝgǝ). A szabályos hangváltozás megerősíti az etimológiai kapcsolatot a magyar és a jenyiszeji között. Az összes újonnan azonosított magyar és jenyiszeji közös etimológia az alapszókincshez tartozik, és a magyarban alapvetően használatos. Ezek nem lehetnek kölcsönszavak sem a jenyiszejiből a magyarba, sem a magyarból a jenyiszejibe a két nyelv nagy földrajzi távolsága miatt. The Phonemes and Pronunciation of the Hungarian Language

本稿は次の４点を念頭に、発音指導の観点からハンガリー語と日本語の音声を比較する。①「通じるハンガリー語」を目指す。② 近似音は日本語の音声で代用する。③ 代用できない場合、発音方法を解説する。④ 片仮名転写は推奨しないが、近似音を得るために一部利用する。
ハンガリー語（標準口語）に 14 の母音音素と 25（24）の子音音素がある。母音音素では円唇母音に注意を払う必要がある。子音音素の多くが日本語に近似音または異音として存在している。［f］［v］のように英語で馴染みのある子音もあるが、ハンガリー語特有の子音として［c］［ɟ］の発音を新しく習得する必要がある。子音の同化と融合の一覧と、ハンガリー語のアルファベットによる 50 音図を参考に付した。

A Gyümölcsnevek szótára a régi magyar gyümölcsfajták illatos és zamatos sokféleségét tárja elénk. A feldolgozott forrásokból mintegy félezer gyümölcsnevet ismerhetünk meg szinonimáikkal együtt, a bo­tanikai fajszám meghaladja a negyvenet. A szerző gyűjtőmunkája eredményeként a nyelvtörténeti adattár botanikusoknak, pomológusoknak és agrártörténészeknek kínál segítséget, azonban az érdeklődők széles körét is vendégül hívja a Kárpát-medence többnyire ende­mikus, illetve őshonosnak tekinthető fajtáival való ismerkedésre.

A szótár bemutatja gyümölcsneveink történetének és eredetének változatos, színes világát. Megtudjuk, hogy az áfonya és a kokojsza román eredetű jövevényszó, az árpával érő körte neve a latinból tükörfordítással keletkezett, a cseresznye és a dinnye szláv eredetű szó, a germersdorfi cseresznye a növény német eredetére utal, a mandula olasz eredetű jövevényszó, a meggy szó ősi örökség a finnugor korból, a naspolya latin eredetű vándorszó, a som a dióval együtt ótörök eredetű szó, a sztarking almafajta angol eredetű neve pedig a Stark faiskola nevéből származik.

PELCZÉDER KATALIN a Pannon Egyetem Magyar és Alkalmazott Nyelvtudományi Intézetének oktatója, aki hosszú évek munkájával gyűjtötte össze és rendszerezte a gyümölcsnevek térben és időben egyaránt gazdag szókincsét.

A kötet érdekes olvasmány a gyümölcsismeret és gyümölcstörténet iránt érdeklődők számára. A kiadvány szerves egységet alkot a szerzőnek a Tinta Könyvkiadónál megjelent Magyar gyümölcsnevek című könyvével.

A digitális eszközök és a digitális kommunikáció mindennapjaink szerves részét képezik. Ezek oktatásban való felhasználásával (pl. számítógép, projektor, videó- és zenelejátszók, internet, digitális szövegek) a fiatalok egyik fő szabadidős tevékenységi formáját építjük be az iskolai foglalkozásokba; motiváló és élményközpontú tanórákat eredményezve ezzel. Felvetődik azonban a kérdés: egyrészt hogyan viszonyuljon a „hagyományos” módszereket használó digitális bevándorlónak tekinthető tanár a digitális bennszülöttek igényeihez; másrészt milyen módon, mértékben kell reflektálnunk a digitális kommunikációra, annak nyelvi jellemzőire az anyanyelvoktatásban? Előadásomban a szlovákiai magyar általános iskolai anyanyelvtankönyveket a digitális kommunikáció szempontjából vizsgálva körvonalazok egy lehetséges megoldást a problémára.

A Finnugor Tudástár-sorozat 32. füzete a magyar építészeti szakszókincs egybegyűjtésére és a szakszavak eredetének bemutatására vállalkozik.
Az itt tárgyalt szakszókincs forrása a Magyar értelmező kéziszótár második, 2003. évi átdolgozott kiadása, amelynek mintegy hetvenezres félkövéren szedett címszóanyagából 1940 bizonyult a magyar építészettel (magas- és mélyépítészettel, bánya-, közút-, vasút- és egyéb építészettel) kapcsolatos szónak a tervezéstől a kivitelezésig, számba véve az építési anyagokat, kézi és gépi eszközöket, építési technikákat, a különböző korok építőművészeti stílusait, ezek díszítő elemeit.
A tárgyalt szóanyag táblázatos formában nyújt gyors áttekintési lehetőséget. A táblázat első oszlopa a sorszámozást tartalmazza. A második oszlopban találhatók az egyes szakszavak félkövér kiemeléssel, a magyar ábécét követő elrendezésben. A harmadik oszlop a szakszavak rövid (maximum harmincöt karakternyi) értelmezését adja meg. A negyedik oszlop a szavak eredetének két karakteres kódjait mutatja, ezek megkülönböztetik a saját szókincsbe tartozó és az idegen nyelvekből átvett szavakat.
A saját szókincs alapvetően két nagy csoportra oszlik: a PU, PF, PG kódok azokat a szavakat jelölik, amelyek a magyar nyelv ősi örökségébe tartoznak, etimológiájuk visszavezethető az uráli, finnugor vagy ugor nyelvi egység korára; a másik – messze legnépesebb – csoportba a magyar nyelv „belső” szóalkotásai tartoznak, elkülönítve itt a BF kódú belső fejleményeket (összetett és képzett származékszavakat, esetenként szakszóként megszilárdult szókapcsolatokat), és a BK kódú belső keletkezésű szavakat, amelyek nyelvújítási vagy gyermeknyelvi szóalkotások.
Az idegen szókincs is két részre tagolható: olyan szavakra, amelyek a szó eredetének ismeretében jövevényszavaknak tekinthetők, és olyan szavakra, amelyek eredete mai ismereteink szerint még meghatározhatatlan, ezek az utóbbiak alkotják az ismeretlen eredetű szóanyagot.
A jövevényszavak jelentős része nemzetközi vándorszó, ezért nem a végső átadó nyelv szerepel eredetük meghatározásaként, hanem a szó elsődleges, kezdeti nyelvi forrása. Ezért a tizenhárom J.. kezdetű kódok részletezései huszonnégyféle változatát jelzik a különböző eredetnyel-veknek.

Polish-Hungarian and Hungarian-Polish dictionaries published after 1945. The paper provides a survey of Polish-Hungarian and Hungarian-Polish dictionaries which were published after 1945. The focus is on the circumstances in which the dictionaries were compiled, their purpose, the general structure, the list of entries and the types of information given in the entries. The aim is to describe the differences between the dictionaries. Pierwszy dwujęzyczny słownik z językiem polskim i węgierskim ukazał się w 1936 roku w Warszawie. Była to miniaturowa książeczka opracowana przez lektora języka węgierskiego z myślą o polskich studentach. Podczas II wojny światowej na Węgrzech wy-dano cztery kolejne słowniczki polsko-węgierskie lub węgiersko-polskie. Prace te miały służyć Polakom przebywającym w węgierskich obozach dla uchodźców i niewiele osób dzisiaj o nich pamięta. Kolejny słownik ukazał się dopiero w 1958 roku, zapoczątkował jednak złoty okres w historii leksykografii polsko-węgierskiej. W ciągu kolejnych cz-terdziestu lat słowniki zestawiające wyrażenia tych dwu języków ukazywały się niemal każdego roku. Po zmianie ustroju popularność takich opracowań zmalała. Obecnie słowniki polsko-węgierskie i węgiersko-polskie wydaje się znacznie rzadziej. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie słowników wydanych po 1945 roku. Będę starała się odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czym różnią się omawiane słowniki oraz co się zmieniło w ciągu siedemdziesięciu lat w sposobie ich opracowywania. Ze względu na rozmiary pracy omówię jedynie dwujęzyczne słowniki drukowane, w których rejestrowane słownictwo nie zostało ograniczone do konkretnej dziedziny i które prezentują materiał leksykalny w porządku alfabetycznym. Z omówienia wyłączam opra-cowania wielojęzyczne, słowniki specjalistyczne, tematyczne oraz internetowe. Historia leksykografii polsko-węgierskiej nie została dotychczas opisana. Podstawo-we informacje o starszych pracach leksykograficznych można znaleźć w przedmowach do słowników Tibora Csorby (1958, 1985) i Jana Reychmana (1968, 1980) oraz w recenzji Istvána Csaplárosa (1958). Nie są mi jednak znane ani dokładniejsze opracowania, ani takie, w których omówiono by nowsze publikacje. Słowniki będą prezentowane w kolejności chronologicznej. Omówienie każdego z nich obej-mie informacje o autorze, okolicznościach powstania i adresatach słownika, jego struktur-ze, zarejestrowanym materiale oraz o budowie artykułów hasłowych. Przy każdym opisie zostaną zamieszczone przykładowe hasła. Dla słowników wegiersko-polskich będą to hasła zawierające kształty túl oraz kiabál, a dla słowników polsko-węgierskich – siedziba oraz gasić.

A Finnugor Tudástár-sorozat 31. füzete A magyar nyelvújítás szótára, a Szily Kálmán által összeállított, 1902-ben és 1908-ban két kötetben (és reprint kiadásban egybekötve 1999-ben a Nap Kiadó által) megjelentetett összefoglaló kiadvány szó-anyagára támaszkodva veti össze a nyelvújítók által alkotott szavakat azok mai szótárakban való előfordulásával, kiemelve közülük azokat a mesterséges szóalkotásokat, amelyek „köztetszést nem nyertek”, és ezért kihullottak az idő rostáján, napjaink nyelvhasználatáig már nem jutottak el.
Ezt a mai magyar nyelvet beszélők által részben vagy teljes egészében elvetett, el nem fogadott szóanyagot egy táblázatos szójegyzék veszi számba.
A táblázat első oszlopa sorszámozás, a második oszlop tartalmazza a különböző szóötleteket, a harmadik oszlop az alkotás vagy a közzététel évét, a negyedik oszlop pedig az adott, mesterségesen alkotott szó „keresztapját” vagy ennek nem ismeretében későbbi közlőjét. Az ötödik oszlop a nyelvújítás kori szó ma is használt „értelmét” adja meg. Az utolsó,  jelű oszlopban a 0-tól 9-ig terjedő kódszámok jelzik a szóötletek és a helyükön ma is használatos szavak között kimutatható összefüggéseket.
Az ezekhez a 0-tól 9-ig kódolt szóösszefüggésekhez besorolt szavak teljes, alfabetikus listái, a szóanyag statisztikai mutatói, valamint a 142 „merész” nyelvújító alfabetikus felsorolása előzik meg a 1288 szócikket tartalmazó táblázatot.

This paper describes archaeogenetic data mining results based on a novel mitochondrial and y-chromosome haplogroup distance metric. The analysis shows that the Minoan genes are composed of two originally distinct groups. One group was the descendant of Mesolithic European hunter-gatherers, while the other group was from Neolithic farmer populations from Anatolia. These groups intermingled in the Danube Basin and the western Black Sea littoral area for thousands of years as indicated by the presence of mutations that appear first in those areas. A group from that population migrated southward to Crete to form the Minoan culture.

On the layers of the water names of Transylvania and the insettlement of its ethnicities
My paper aims at a detailed overview on the way of the settlement of the different ethnical groups in Transylvania at the time of the Great Migration Period. The analysis is based on the comparison of the historical-archaeological literature with the testimonies of the place names and especially the river names. The similar interdisciplinary analyses are very rare, these are focused usually only on the place names, or on the archaeological research.
From the written sources the immigration of the different peoples (German, Hunnic, Avar and Magyar) to Transylvania is known, but their settling areas, local ethnical history and the detailed chronology cannot be examined without the archaeological data. Their information is comparable only with caution with the Transylvanian place names, because—regardless the time of their formation— these originated mainly from the 12–13th centuries.
The main aspects, which I followed in the applicability of the place names in the ethnical reconstruction, HOFFMANN–RÁCZ–TÓTH 2018 deals with.

The first superficial contacts of the Hungarians and Slavs took place in the 9th century CE in the East European Plain at the time of the migration of Hungarian tribes. However, intensive contacts began after they relocated to the Carpathian basin, where the ancestors of today’s Hungarians settled among Slavs who spoke Late Common Slavic dialects. In the course of their assimilation among the Slavophone population of the central territories in a community characterized by Slavic-Hungarian bilingualism, Hungarian acquired a considerable number of loans, lexical and semantic calques, and some word-formational calques. Slavic affected the grammatical structure of Hungarian to a lesser extent. The Slavic substratum of Hungarian warrants the reconstruction of two dialects of Late Common Slavic in the Carpathian basin at the time of the arrival of the Hungarians in the late 9th century CE. One is Pannonian Slavic, which combined features of what are today’s West Slavic languages and the westernmost dialects of the South Slavic dialects, which thus form a transitional dialect bridging the West and South Slavic branches. The other is a dialect of the Bulgarian type, which, together with its general South Slavic features, also gives evidence of specific features of Bulgarian dialects. The substratum lexicon was supplemented by borrowings from individual Slavic languages as a result of persistent and intensive contact between Slavs and Hungarians, which had earlier taken place in the central parts of the Hungarophone territory as well as its periphery, whereas in the modern era, they take place largely only between regional variants of Hungarian in neighboring Slavic countries. The influence of Hungarian on Slavic has been more modest, being evident primarily in Slavic speech varieties that had developed over the centuries in the Hungarian Kingdom (Prekmurje Slovene, Burgenland Croatian, Slovak, and Carpathian Ukrainian/Rusyn): in these languages and dialects, borrowings from Hungarian are widely represented in various spheres of the lexicon in everyday use.

The following paper analyses the situation of the Csángó dialect spoken in the Romanian region of Moldavia. After a review of the global phenomenon of language death, its causes, and some resources to evaluate language vitality, the study focuses on the Csángó community and its Hungarian dialect. A short description of some fundamental facts about the group, such as ethnicity, religious affiliation, and linguistic background sets the base for an in-depth study of the language situation. In order to achieve that goal, the language was scrutinized according to the nine factors proposed by the UNESCO's Language Vitality and Endangerment (LVE) framework. The results confirm previous research in the field and show that Csángó is experiencing a decisive and most difficult phase in its history. It is expected, however, that this paper can contribute to create a successful planning to preserve not only Csángó but many other languages and dialects in similar situations.

Data mining the Sumerian vocabulary reveals a dichotomy of the cognate associations of the Emeĝir and the Emesal dialects, with the former having mostly Dravidian and the later mostly Uralic cognates, indicating that Sumerian arose by the combination of two languages from those language families. The data mining also reveals a distribution pattern of Proto-Uralic, Proto-Finno-Ugric, Proto-Ugric and Proto-Hungarian cognates that indicates that Sumerian is farther than Minoan from Hungarian, although all are West-Ugric.

Aspects of the Slovak-Hungarian comparatistic morphosyntax
The aim of the publication is the comparing of Slovak and Hungarian morphosyntax
from the aspect of ethnolinguistics and linguistic relativity. Our main
interest is on the representation of the linguistic image of the world in grammar
of two typologically different languages in one language area. Our topic is
reflecting on the xenolinguistics in Slovakia: it is presented, how strange are
grammatical structures reflected by learning the other language or by translating.
The research of the linguistic image of the world is mostly focused on
the lexicon, though, morphosyntactic structures and rules let deeper discover
the logic of a language. We use these methods for discovering this logic in the
compared languages:
1. Colleting of papers on Slovak-Hungarian comparing grammar with their
presenting in longer quotations and funding the theoretical background
with their comparing with the academic and functional grammars of the
above languages.
2. With methods of language typology and relativity analysing the categories
and the word classes in Slovak and Hungarian.
3. Structural and semantic comparing is interpreted from an ethnolinguistic
aspect. Common and parallel elements of Slovak and Hungarian mental
grammar are presented from a global view of examples of the languages of
the world. In this context the signs of interference in bilingual milieu are
traced.
4. Theoretic conclusions can be used in second language acquisition and
translatology.
The fırst, theoretic chapter deals with the methods of linguistic comparison,
the categorization in languages. The theory of the “linguistic image of the world”
will be shortly presented. Further topics are the typology and its influence on
the morphematic structure of Slovak and Hungarian and the differences of
word classes as well.
The next two main chapters are about nominal and verbal phrase, where
we compare the grammatical categories and semantics of morphosyntactically
relevant word classes. These aspects show, how the structures of the
both languages work, which are the analogies, which forms are chosen from
the potential grammatical structures. Although Slovak and Hungarian show
typologically and structural differences, conclusions of semantic grammar
show, that the speakers of these languages have a similar linguistic image of
the world. Speakers of Slovak and Hungarian think about grammatical number, person, time e.g. the same way, even if the formal expression is different. There
is no such sentence structure, which would be impossible to say in one of the
researched languages, despite of the different grammatical system of casus,
e.g. There are differences in the bipolarity of verbal categories of Slovak (perfective
↔ imperfective, reflective ↔ non reflective) and of the more immanent
lexical-grammatical mixture of categories of Hungarian (Aktionsart). After comparing
the system of verbiods, the conclusion is, that the higher frequency of
non-personal verbal forms in Hungarian is a functional replacement of failing
passive constructions. The chapter abut verbs is closed with the comparing of
sentence structures on base of predication and word order.
Our conclusion is, that the linguistic image of the word is related to what
is causal, motivated in language. Not only word derivation show signs of such
motivation, also in grammar can be traced logic, transparency. These structures
are said to be “light” for learners of foreign languages. If there is no transparent,
causal, motivated structure, the phenomenon of interlingual analogy
begins to work. This is practically called “error” from a normative aspect, but
it’s a natural manifestation of the influence of different linguistic images of
worlds. The last chapter is a collection of the differences of language thinking,
different logic of speakers of Hungarian and Slovak which have consequences
on translation and language teaching.

1. mivel eddig minden kutató más jeleket vélt felfedezni a tűtartón, elengedhetetlen a tárgy modern, műszeres vizsgálata. A megbízható paleográfiai rekonstrukció előtt minden olvasati kísérlet ködszurkálás.
2. a „baszjad izüt!” olvasat hangtani, jelentéstani és pragmatikai okok miatt sem valószínű egy 8. századi feliraton,
3. ezért akkor is érdemes lesz új interpretációval kísérletezni, ha a műszeres vizsgálat történetesen igazolná Fehér Bence paleográfiai rekonstrukcióját. Ennek során először azokkal a nyelvekkel érdemes próbálkozni, amelyeknek Kárpát-medencei jelenlétével számolhatunk a történeti és régészeti források alapján. És ezt a feladatot természetesen turkológusoknak, germanistáknak és szlavistáknak kell elvégezniük.

Монография является первым обобщающим типологическим исследованием префиксальной перфективации — феномена, до сих пор получившего подробное освещение лишь в славянских языках. В книге на синхронном уровне рассматривается материал славянских и балтийских языков, идиша, немецкого, венгерского, осетинского, а также картвельских языков — грузинского, сванского, мегрельского и лазского. Подробно изучаются морфологические свойства глагольных префиксов (превербов), их семантика, особенности семантики и функционирования превербных глаголов, устройство аспектуальных систем. Полученные эмпирические данные подвергаются количественному анализу, позволяющему выделить две области кластеризации систем префиксального перфектива — славянскую и кавказскую, — различающиеся набором харак-теризующих их признаков. Отдельно исследуются диахрония систем превербов и перфективации в рассматриваемых языковых семьях, возможные типологические параллели в других ареалах и типы наблюдаемых в этой области контактных явлений, для чего привлекается материал ряда миноритарных идиомов (цыганских, славянских, балтийских, балканороманских, финно-угорских). Делаются эмпирически обоснованные выводы о соотношении генетически унаследованного, универсально-типологического и контактного в наблюдаемом ареальном распределении систем префиксального перфектива в языках Центральной и Восточной Европы и Кавказа.

Wedding Usher Books and Verses in the 19th Century:
Manuscript Wedding Usher Books on North-Eastern Hungary

This book aims to investigate 19th-century wedding usher books and wedding usher verses in terms of text linguistics, as well as textual history and history of the genre. The prime reason for the selection of this topic was the peculiar, dual nature of the area of scholarly research that these folkloric texts represent. On the one hand, the presence of a wedding usher, called vőfély [vøːfeːj] and acting as a sort of ’master of ceremonies’ at rural weddings, is a widely known and amply documented fact of ethnography in almost the entire Carpathian Basin. Such wedding ushers recite rhymes while directing the wedding proceedings and entertaining participants. Distributed in chapbooks or manuscripts, vőfély verses have been known since the late 18th century as a common, indispensible and characteristic part of any wedding celebration. They are mostly rhymed in form and recited, closely and functionally following the various stages of the wedding. Over the past 180 to 200 years, this custom has been extensively written about in very diverse bodies of literature, giving descriptions of varying complexity and quality. Collections of usher verses which have been published in print include thousands of titles, added to which are at least the same number of unpublished collections and handwritten sources held in public archives. Wedding ushers and usher verses maintained their presence in folk culture, and then, popular culture through the 19th and 20th centuries, and survive to date. Though there have been some alterations due to changes in the customs of wedding celebrations, the texts discussed herein represent one of the most stable and longest-lived elements of Hungarian popular culture. The 21st century seems to see a renaissance of this, mainly as a ‘survival’ or ‘revival’ phenomenon of folklorism and a conscious preservation of cultural heritage.

The Hungarian language conquest

Language historians unequivocally claim that the Hungarian language appeared in the Carpathian Basinat the time of the Hungarian conquest in the 9th century; however, they do not support this claim. In fact, the language situation in the Carpathian Basin after the fall of the Roman Empire is practically unknown. Sources that give a clearer insight into the question appear in growing numbers only from the 12th or the 13th centuries: Hungarian gained a very strong position by that time. Based on historical examples taken from the loosely defined steppe region, my study explores how language conquest takes place, i.e. how a new language can spread in a territory where it has not been spoken before. Several conditions must be present for the successful spread of a language, and the fate of the language is influenced by a number of
factors. These include (i) the proportion of the original and the arriving inhabitants; (ii) the political and cultural prestige of the new language; (iii) the fresh supply of the new language (e.g. arriving in several waves); (iv) the home front of the new language (whether it has been cut off from its original hinterland) etc. From these perspectives, the Hungarian language did not arrive in ideal circumstances into the Carpathian Basin; thus its disappearance was more probable than its survival. This controversy raises the question whether the presently held model of the Hungarian language conquest is sustainable, and whether the Hungarian language arrived into the Carpathian Basin in one single wave.

This volume accounts for the motives for contemporary lexical borrowing from English, using a comparative approach and a broad cross-cultural perspective. It investigates the processes involved in the penetration of English vocabulary into new environments and the extent of their integration into twelve languages representing several language families, including Icelandic, Dutch, French, Russian, Hungarian, Hebrew, Arabic, Amharic, Persian, Japanese, Taiwan Chinese, and several languages spoken in southern India. Some of these languages are studied here in the context of borrowing for the first time ever. All in all, this volume suggests that the English lexical 'invasion', as it is often referred to, is a natural and inevitable process. It is driven by psycholinguistic, sociolinguistic, and socio-historical factors, of which the primary determinants of variability are associated with ethnic and linguistic diversity.
