A polymer-layered silicate nanocomposite (PLN) of PVP K-30 organophilic MMT (OMMT) at a 2:1ratio was produced in dichloromethane solution and successfully evaluated as a pharmaceutical adjuvant. In this study the influence of reaction time was investigated. XRD data indicates that maximum interlamellar distances were achieved after 12hours. These results lead us to carry out a more detailed study in order to follow the intercalation process. The influence of several increasing reaction times (15 minutes to 72 hours) on the interplanar distances of PVP-OMMT (in dichloromethane solution) and PVP-MMT (in aqueous solution) at 2:1, 1:1 and 1:2 ratios was investigated with XRD. The data obtained showed that new PLN were obtained at short time reaction times (up to 1 hour), which was attributed to amide structure of the polymer (PVP), capable of establishin...

We performed quantification of total flavonoids of green and red propolis ethanol extracts for subsequent incorporation in ointment base to 20%. We used 20 Wistar rats divided into four groups: 0.9% saline (S), ointment base (B), green propolis ointment (G) and red propolis ointment (R). All animals were submitted to excisional lesions in the midian back region. The rats were treated daily for 15 days. During this period we observed weight, body temperature and diameters of the wounds. For histological analysis, samples were collected from wounds. At the end of the experiment we performed blood collection and removal of the kidney and liver for biochemical and histological analyzes. The levels of total flavonoids of green (4.50%) and red (5.92%) propolis were high (> 2%), but, while the latter showed a content larger than the former, the evolution of green propolis was better ...

The beads were formed by extrusion and the following variables were assessed: fungus conidial concentration (series 1: 107; series 2: 108 and series 3: 109 conidia/mL) and nanolayered silicate concentration (0; 0.5; 1; 2 and 4%). The matrix was evaluated by X-ray powder diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and the following characteristics of the products were assessed: percent of encapsulated conidia, size distribution and polydispersity index, swelling index, formulation's in vitro ability to release conidia and stability under different storage temperatures. PLN, whose interactions could be visualized by FTIR, proved to be a potential matrix for this fungus, because, while composed by natural substances non-toxic to the environment, it succeeded to encapsulate high amounts of conidia (series 2). A barrier effect with bentonite increase was also demonstrated by increased fungus germination time and thermal stability.

Forty-eight industries involved in manufacture and distribution of officinal medicines and phytotherapeutics were identified in one hundred current administrative processes of the National Health Surveillance Agency in Brazil. The analysis of the inspection reports of these companies considered the first nine months after the implantation of Resolution RDC 210/03 and revealed five specific company profiles: satisfactory (29.2%), satisfactory with restrictions (10.4%), unsatisfactory (6.2%), interdicted (39.6%), and applying for cancellation due to lack of conditions for complying with Resolution RDC 210/03 (14.6%). The main irregularities found in these companies involved the operational flow, quality control and product registration issues. Our results revealed a great number of companies whose activities are related to th...

This work aims the investigation of dynamics of energy source utilization of Rhynchophorus palmarum during embryogenesis. For this, we first evaluated the mobilization kinetics of the lipids and glycogen. Thereafter, the synthesis of RNA, protein, and the involvement of enzyme of the glycolytic and pentose-phosphate pathways. Results showed that lipid content decreased in contrast with the lipase activity. The total glycogen amounts it was partly consumed and the glucose content increased, but then values remained stable until hatching. Total RNA content increased, and no significant changes in total protein content were observed. A study of the glycolytic pathway data showed activity of hexokinase and pyruvate kinase at the beginning of embryogenesis. Furthermore, glucose-6-phosphate f...

By XRD, TGA and DSC analysis the AAM was characterized and its compactation characteristics, functionality and toxicity were also tested. The AAM/PVP K-30 and AAM/GME nanocomposite obtained were evaluated to identify the interlamellar spacing values by XRD diffratograms. Tablets were prepared using methyldopa and theophylline as model drugs and the dissolution tests were carried out in simulated gastric fluid and simulated enteric fluid. AAM showed a good compactability and compressibility characteristics for tablets preparation. The intercalation yields (approximately 25%) of the nanocomposites were efficient. The AAM/PVP K-30 nanocomposites were successfully tested as dissolution enhancers and sustained release matrixes. The results also suggested the promising use of AAM (viscogel B8) and the...

The ketoconazole raw material supplier was selected to present a best flow and compactation. In addition we used direct compression and superdisintegrants associated to polyols to enhance the dissolution of the ketoconazole tablets. The dissolution was evaluated based in level C in vivo/in vitro correlation established. The best formulation was obtained with croscarmellose/maltose association that in the accelerated stability assays presented no differences on quality specifications and no drug-excipients interaction by DSC analyses. In this work it was possible to confirm the use of sugar-based excipients as suitable dissolution enhancers in pharmaceutical technology and real processes conditions.
