The dissertation research object arе “wild” urban marketplaces. They reveal the deep transformation of Bulgarian cities resulting from the economic, social and political transformations occurring at a global and national level. The study of the marketplace phenomenon as a culture is essential to the analysis of the post-socialist city. We are particularly interested in the market site as a practised, produced and imagined place. That means, analyzing the process of restructuration and diversion of the city under the influence of economic and political factors, but also to consider the everyday urban practices. The main scientific goal of the dissertation is centred on the comprehension of urban markets as cultures. Two research sites were chosen. The first one expands around an official marketplace in the city of Dimitrovgrad. The second one, located in Sofia, has a long history of spatial migration. As research results we could state several repeating motifs: 1. The way the story of the marketplace is told translates informants’ world visions and their ways of experiencing the economic and political transformations. 2. The studied marketplaces are often considered dirty and shameful, a fact originating in the insecurity and incertitude structuring the market experience and practice 4. The relation between the marketplace and the city could be defined through three necessities: to hide it, to restrict its visibility and to impose boundaries. Research techniques are unstructured interviews, life stories, participant and direct observation, sketching, taking pictures and documentary analyses.

The paper analyses three case studies of what we call " interactive cultural industries " , or, of those agents, who, I believe, are reformulating the field of culture by producing a new cultural product, situated on the edge between the ideal and the commercial; a product challenging the fluid border between the private and the public, and strongly relying on the interactivity and involvement of the consumer. Stara Zagora is the city of poets, lime-trees, straight streets (and crooked people). Stara Zagora is the centre of the universe. This seems to be one of the few cities in Bulgaria that are still strongly influenced by industry. Some of the biggest industrial enterprises in Bulgaria are located in the area: Maritsa Iztok energy complex, Zagorka brewery, wine growers, Trace Construction Company. Notwithstanding the rational grid plan of the city, Stara Zagora is also a place where everybody talks about special energies and predestination but also about predictability and control. New economies, interactive cultural industries What happens to culture in a city that has maintained its strong economic connection to industry and is also inscribed in the global economy? How is the cultural field (re)defined and how are the positions within the field re-allocated? What are these interactive cultural industries? These are the questions that the present paper is structured around. The article presents some of the results of the collective research project " The New Cultural Industries in the Contemporary Urban Imagination " .[1] Our main proposition was that we are witnessing a transformation in the field of culture linked to the emergence of what we referred to with the working concept " new cultural industries " (Ditchev, 2012). With this notion we tried to capture the current change occurring under the conditions of late capitalism, globalisation and new technologies. What becomes visible against the background of this globally running process is the figure of the prosumer – a portmanteau of the words " producer " and " consumer " , first coined by Alvin Toffler. For Toffler it comes down to an outright business strategy; which to some extent deprives this new practice of its creative potential. More recent cultural studies recontextualize the concept and use it to describe the blurring of the clear, at least up until the 1980s, distinction between consumer and producer. Thus we direct our attention to the quasi-professional, quasi-commercial practices of artistic production and reproduction. Резюме: Текстът тръгва от хипотезата, че сме свидетели на съществена промяна в отношението към храненето, която е свързана с предефиниране на значенията на кулинарните умения и хранителните продукти, с начина, по който се генерира знание в съвременния културен контекст и промяна в квалификацията на експертите. Тези промени водят от своя страна до преосмисляне на понятието за локалност и автентичност, като така се снема моралното напрежение от консумацията чрез изтегляне на преден план на производството. Как тези практики се отнасят към променящата се структура на капитализма? Какво е храната? Това не е просто колекция от продукти, подлежащи на статистически и диетични изисквания. Това е същевременно една комуникационна система, корпус от образи, проток за употреба и поведения (Barthes 1961) Рецептите от детството ми в тефтера на майка ми бяха два вида: едните носеха името на човека, от който са взаимствани (например тортата на леля Ани), останалите представляваха някое познато ястие с неизненадващи съставки, но приготвено според рецепта, характерна уж за някаква национална кухня (пиле по турски). Сякаш последните години се случва сериозна промяна в мястото на храната в съвременния свят, изразявайки се в конституирането на нова социалност около приготвянето и консумацията на храна, свързана със самия процес на глобализация. Глобализацията донася не само нови съставки и подправки, но и нови техники на приготвяне. Процесът на глобална социална трансформация, промяната на мястото на знанието в сегашния ни свят и на света на труда се отразяват и на начина, по който приготвяме, консумираме, но и се социализираме около храната. Това можем да го видим и в самата организация на дома. Кухнята лаборатория повлияна от Тейлоризма изчезва, за да отдаде мястото си на пространство, в което общото готвене и комуникация са възможни, превръщайки подготовката на храната в част от прекарването на вечерта. На кулинарната сцена постепенно настъпват аматьори основно чрез интензивната употреба на новите медии, които изместват учените и професионално обучените експерти. Самото хранене става неизменна част от културните маршрути като по този начин променя значението на автентичността, тя не може да бъде повече възможна без локалното знание и практика.

The following article is based upon my PhD thesis The Urban Marketplace as a Culture. Formation, Institutionalization and Power Relations Relative to Two Marketplaces and the Urban Space. Of central interest are «wild marketplaces», a phenomenon, I consider, is revealing the deep transformation resulting from the economic, social and political changes occurring at a global and national level. In the heart of the marketplace, through of the personal and professional experiences of my informants, the specific figure of women traders becomes visible. Either, she could be a retired lady or a young entrepreneur, one could note the considerable number of women working at the marketplace. It seems, that the marketplace is the privileged site for professional realisation for women.

Introducing solid foods into an infant’s diet is an important period regulated by rites of passage both for the care-giving parent and the child as it marks the child emancipation from the principal caregiver. The transformations within Bulgarian society led to a transformation of kinship relations and proliferation of parenting styles, which rely on their own networks of expertise and levels of trust. We are currently witnessing splits within expert systems and the appearance of new actors, under the effect of new media and technologies, mobility and even transformation within the knowledge itself.

The paper is interested in the way that the construction of waste as social, cultural and historic category, and as individual practices and discourses of throwing away reveal contemporary social transformations. It examines both in the dynamics of constitution of the category (what is categorized as devalorized, as unnecessary, as unclean in a historical perspective) and in the individual garbage constitution practices.

There are few television programs about the part food plays in our lives. There are cooking demonstrations, where viewers can watch chefs such as Paul Bocuse or Grahame Kerr baking fish in pastry or poaching eels in red wine. In such programs cooking is shown as an accessory, as part of a lifestyle. Similar use of food and cooking is made in newspaper and magazine lifestyle supplements. But there is almost no public discussion of what we eat, how we eat it, and what effect our eating has on us.

The paper analyses the construction and transformation within the academic studies of the materialities related to the “wasted” or the “useless” and more precisely the phenomena of waste and garbage. The main thesis is that if we abandon the definition of waste and garbage through the notion of “uselessness” and „dirtiness, the categories of waste and garbage change. Reapplying a definition of waste as a resource transforms its status into the one of an economic phenomenon. That transformations produces its own impacts, which could be positive and related to a better treatment options or negative and related to hazardous effects on health and welfare. Статията се концентрира върху анализ на феномена на «дивите градски пазари»,  явление разкриващо дълбоката трансформация, произтекла от икономическите, социалните и политическите промени, случили се на глобално и национално ниво през 1980те и 1990 те години. В сърцето на пазара, чрез личния и професионалния опит на моите информатори, специфичната фигура на жените търговци става видима, независимо дали е пенсионирана дама или млада предприемачка, прави впечатление значителният брой жени, работещи на пазара. Изглежда, че пазарът е привилегированото място за професионална реализация на жените. Но той е и враждебно място за тях, което прави успеха им още по-впечатляващ.

Димитровград е интригуващ, защото съчетава в себе си едновременно срамното и славното минало и настояще. Текстът стъпва на понятието идеи-образи, чрез което се опитва да осмисли структурата на социалния живот и спойката между хората, като проследява промяната в градското въображение чрез едно повторно завръщане към терен седем години по-късно. Опитвам се да разбера какво е мястото на Неделния пазар, чалгата, археологията, социалистическото наследство в сложната палитра на градската идентичност. Résumé: Mon argumentation repose sur l’hypothèse selon laquelle nous sommes en train d'assister à un changement crucial dans les attitudes vis-à-vis de la consommation culinaire, lié à fois à la redéfinition de la signification  des compétences culinaires et des produits alimentaires, à la manière dont le savoir est généré dans le contexte culturel contemporain et par conséquent à la modification des qualifications des experts. Ces changements nous conduisent à repenser aussi la notion de localité et d'authenticité en même temps qu'ils éliminent l'émergence de tensions morales issues la consommation. Quel est le lien entre ces pratiques et la structure changeante du capitalisme?

Le déchet comme ressource et enjeu L'historienne sociale Susan Strasser (Strasser, 2000) note dans l'une des premières études sur l'histoire sociale des déchets que les déchets résultent d'une acte de classification continue, qui dépend du contexte historique, économique et social. Aussi banal que cela puisse paraître, c'est dans cette définition que le défi principal consiste à construire l'inutile comme problème de recherche, à savoir sa contextualité et sa fluidité. Les déchets ont suivi toute la civilization humaine, mais c'est relativement récent qu'ils sont devenus un objet de recherche pertinant. En même temps malgré leur impact sur l'environnement
