Editing a text is a complex and laborious process that often involves presumptive choices by the critical editor. When the text to be edited is a masterpiece of world literature and a banner of national identity, the problems to be addressed and the issues to be confronted multiply. It is no coincidence that Dante's Commedia has not yet benefited from a satisfactory critical edition, based on all the manuscript sources. The editing of canonical texts related to national traditions – such as those by Dante, Shakespeare, Goethe – involves significant intrinsic and methodological problems, which are all quite different though at the same time sharing some features. A number of essays on the subject have already been collected for the volume which is soon to be published, though further original contributions, in English or French and relevant to the theme, are still welcome.

Dear all,
as some of you romance or italian scholars already know, a little group of dantofili has been working to a new edition of and a new commentary on the Commedia since 2002.
This is a sample, of course a provisional one, of how our edition will be.
We are very interested about our colleagues’ feeedback. Any comment, suggestion, constructive criticism is welcome.
