Vincenzo Lomiento
Vincenzo Lomiento graduated in Classical Literature (cum laude) at the University of Bari on Nov 23rd, 1999 with a thesis in Latin epigraphy entitled “Le iscrizioni onorarie della regio secunda augustea”.
He gained the specialized degree in Archaeology (cum laude) at the University of Bari on Apr 26th, 2004 discussing a thesis in Roman Archaeology entitled “L’edilizia privata di età romana nella regio secunda: gli esempi di Ordona, Canosa e Venosa”.
Since Dec 1st, 2006 he is a researcher in L-FIL-LET/06 “Ancient Christian Literature” in the former Department of Tradition and Fortune of the Antiquity, now Department of Humanities, at the University of Foggia. He is a member of the “Consulta Universitaria di Letteratura Cristiana Antica”. He is editor and contributor of “Auctores Nostri. Studi e testi di letteratura cristiana antica”.
Since 2001 he has been carrying out a continuous research activity, documented by his participation in projects of national and international relevance, by the publication of nine monographs and numerous contributions and articles, and by his participation in national and international conferences. He is principal investigator of the project “Ask nature and she will tell you that she made the day and night” (“Progetti di Ricerca di Ateneo” 2020). He has been principal investigator of the project “The Polemical Dimension in Latin Homiletics (IV to V centuries)”, funded by the University of Foggia (“Progetti di Ricerca di Ateneo” 2014). He has been a member of the research group that promoted the project “The ancients and Europe: research and didactic paths. How and why the past has contributed to forming our way of living and thinking,” funded by the University of Foggia (“Progetti di Ricerca di Ateneo” 2019). He is a member of the University of Foggia research group in the PRIN 2020 project “The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed and its Translations”. He was a member of the University of Foggia research groups in the PRIN 2009 project “Christians and ‘others’. Literary forms of the religious debate from the IIIth to the VIth century,” the FIRB 2008 project “The Textual Transmission of Latin Fathers between Classical and Medieval World,” and the PRIN 2007 project “Forms of the controversy in the Christian age (III - V centuries)”. He collaborated with the University of Foggia research group in the PRIN 2004 project “Interpreting and communicating. School traditions in Latin literature between the 3rd and 6th centuries” and in the project “Christianity and cinema: biblical and Christian stories in the seventh art,” funded by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Puglia for the year 2010.
His research focuses on literary form and contents, tradition and fortune of ancient Christian texts in Greek and Latin. The main field of investigation deals with the names of love and the lexicon of emotions and consists of monographs related to Origen’s Commentary on the Song of Songs (2016), Commentary on Matthew (2017), Commentary on John (2018), Ambrose’s Exaemeron (2014), Augustine’s Confessions (2009, 2020, 2023). Other fields of investigation include manuscript tradition and ancient and modern editions of Cyprian’s treatises (FIRB 2008); these studies will be published in Tra.Pat. He has been also carrying out research on Augustine’s Sermones De Symbolo (PRIN 2020) and the argumentative techniques in Augustine’s anti-heretical and anti-pagan controversy (PRIN 2007, PRIN 2009, Unifg PRA 2014 projects). Finally he studied the fortune of the biblical text in the cinematographic art (project funded by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Puglia). These investigations have been performed with the aid of Information Technology tools, and are complemented by specific investigations about principles, methods and applications of Information Technology to the analysis of literary texts.
He is a member of the board of professors of the PhD studies in “Scienze Umanistiche” at the University of Foggia. He was a member of the board of professors of the PhD studies in “Scienze dell’Antichità classica e cristiana. Antico, tardoantico e medievale: storia della tradizione e della ricezione” at the University of Foggia.
Since 2006 he has been carrying out teaching activity at the Faculty of Literature and then the Department of Humanistic Studies at the University of Foggia. He held teaching positions in the subjects of “ancient Christian literature,” “patristic philology,” “patristic rhetoric,” “culture and literature in the Christian age”.
He is a member of the Commissions for the “Scientific planning and competitive calls” and “Traineeships” at the Department of Humanities of the University of Foggia. From 2009 to 2018 he was a member of the Board of the Library of Humanities. He was also a member of the Commission for the Quality Assurance of the Research and of the Third Mission at the Department of Humanities of the University of Foggia.

“Guglielmo Marconi” University’s PhD candidates in Law and Political Science, under the patronage of the Department of Law and Political Science, and in collaboration with the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Foggia, launch this call for proposals, addressed to doctoral students and young researchers in the History of political thought, Political philosophy, Sociology, History of law, Public law, as well as classic and modern Philology. Proposals focusing on how concepts born within the Western religious tradition have then become part of a secularized political culture are welcome too.
Guideline for Submissions and Deadlines
Abstracts (max. 500 words) should include: full name, email, job title, affiliation, scientific field, title, five keywords and an essential bibliography (max. 10 titles). Abstracts must be submitted to lessicodemocraticoseminario.24@gmail.com no later than July the 10th, 2024. The submission deadline will not be extended. Abstracts should be sent in Word format (.doc or .docx).
Notification of acceptance or rejection shall be sent by July the 31st, 2024.
The deadline for full paper (max. 4.000 words) submission is fixed on January the 31st, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances. Author guidelines will be provided in due course.
Seminar Venue and Logistical Information
The criteria for evaluation that will be followed by the Scientific Committee will be: relevance of the proposal to the colloquium theme, originality and academic standard. Accepted papers will be published as proceedings in the form of an edited volume.
The seminar will take place on November 7th to 8th, 2024, in Rome, at the main building of the “Guglielmo Marconi” University, Via Plinio, 44 – 00193, Rome. Presentation at the seminar will be 10-15 minutes long.
The lunch on November the 7th will be offered by the “Guglielmo Marconi” University. The fee for the social dinner (evening of November the 7th) and all travel and lodging expenses will be on participants’ charge. The Organizing Committee will point out affiliated accommodations nearby the seminar venue.
