Special attention goes to Working Memory (WM), the conscious, short-term system where learning originates. Persons with cognitive deficiency, for example with Down Syndrome, present limiting conditions in phonological and visuospatial WM, with the latter being less affected. Gamified, digital learning resources, in a gestural interaction environment between human and computer, are proposed for stimulating new learning. We use a quasi-experimental methodology to measure the memory factor in image and text resources, both in a single class lesson and between lessons (Δt=1 wk.), in a population of three students (8 < cognitive age < 12) selected by their regular classroom teachers with the aim of a balanced sample. A lesson plan was personalized for each student, with 3 or 4 work sessions in a row, each lasting 6-12 minutes, and adapted to the computerized gestural interaction platform Tango:H. This lesson plan was repeated for 3 weeks with no changes in the learning resources or strategies. Results show a significant variation in recall between lessons, with a 99.95% confidence level; 100% recall was attained in 33% of the cases. There was no distinction between image- or text-based learning resources in terms of the recall factor; no significant difference in learning outcomes was found between different resource types.

The authors, following the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on quality education set by the United Nations, propose a questionnaire delivery system through mobile messaging services that overcomes the problem of the low response rates of students for these surveys. The research follows an experimental design, is developed over three years, and involves 811 subjects who are distributed in two groups: an experimental group, in which the questionnaires are delivered through mobile messaging services, and a control group. The researchers examine the existence of differences in response rates through a descriptive comparative exploration between the two groups, also applying the Student’s t-test to evaluate the significance of the findings. The results reveal that the rates for the experimental group are not only higher than those achieved for the control group but are also signific...

According to defined objective and after the references were reviewed, a system of categories was designed in relation to the three aforementioned categories, including models of citizenship and civic participation, types of heritage, purposes of heritage education, perspectives of attention to diversity and principles for an inclusive heritage. As a conclusion, regarding the development of citizenship, there are main trends in experiences and researches such as the autonomy of the individual, social inclusion and rights; including citizens' rights, ability to decide, knowledge and implementation of these rights, and social inclusion in the environment where they are developed as fundamental topics. In this process, the use of heritage as a source of social ...

Beyond the official curriculum, university educators have conceptions of citizenship and pluricultural competence. To understand the conceptions of educators on both topics in the Hispanic and Japanese contexts of higher education, this article presents a quantitative study involving a collaboration between a sample of education and social sciences teaching staff from universities in Spain and Japan. The CYASPS® (Citizenship and Plurilingual Social Actors in Higher Education) instrument and a categories system were designed for data collection and analysis with the support of SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software. Using a comparative approach, this study investigated the teaching staffs’ conceptions about citizenship and pluricultural teaching–learning environments, which focused on their views regarding diff...

In this study, we present results about using gestural interaction with the Kinect sensor to improve the reading skills of students with Down syndrome. We found improvements in the visual association, visual comprehension, sequential memory, and visual integration after this stimulation in the experimental group compared to the control group. We also found that the number of errors and delay time in the interaction decreased between sessions in the experimental group.

For this purpose, we have extracted the documents from the Scopus databases (search results for “influencer*” and “social media” were 817) and examined them with the bibliographic analysis tool VOSviewer. The description of the documents claims a fast pace in the last year 2020 (41 % of all documents), the strong influence of the United States (29.5% of the documents) and the interesting interdisciplinarity between technical, scientific, and social subjects. The bibliometric analysis provided co-occurrences by keywords, with an increase in human and Instagram aspects, and co- authorships by nationalities with a strong Anglo-Saxon area of influence. In addition to the conclusions derived from the bibliometric analysis, digital citizenship education is claimed to critically address the impact of influencers on social networks.

The main objective of the present study was to analyze the influence of teacher roles (guide or facilitator) on students’ social participation in Twitter and their perceived academic experience. The sample consisted of 525 future teachers, all of the Master’s degree students at Spain’s National Distance Education University (UNED). We used a mixed triangulation design, a theoretical model, quantitative methods (descriptive analysis and contrast of means) and qualitative methods (content analysis following the principles of grounded theory). Our results showed that the teacher’s role as a facilitator exerted a more positive influence on how students assessed their experience and on their participation on Twitter than the role as a guide. We conclude...

This article presents part of the analyses and results from a research questionnaire on «Scenarios, digital technologies and youth in Andalusia», administered to a population of 1,487 youth between the ages of 13 and 19. The discussion on young Andalusians and social networks revolves around the structure and configuration of their profiles, intended uses and the privacy and security involved. The results reveal a population with nearly unlimited access to social networks and with very little adult monitoring; moreover, those connecting are younger than the legal minimum age defined by the Internet services themselves. The motivations of Andalusian youth for using social networks fall into three areas. The first two, social and ...

Nutrition problems incorporate inappropriate practices, so nutrition education is key to empowering consumers to choose healthy foods. However, increasing the accessibility of healthy diets is related to reducing the cost of nutritious foods. The accounting management of healthy nutrition should allow for optimal global decision-making. The evolution of scientific production and global research trends on this topic between 1968 and 2019 have been studied. Statistical and mathematical methods have been applied to 1738 documents from the Scopus database. The results provided data on the agents that participate in the development of the theme. Data reveal an exponential trend, especially in the previous decade, with more than 50% of scientific production. Future lines of research have been identified: investment in health systems; green label education; early impact of food insecurity; WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) nutrition education; ...

From the theoretical framework and the review around the problem, a categories system is elaborated in three blocks: types of citizenship, plurilingual competence and pluricultural competence. This system is useful for the configuration of the questionnaire CYASPS® “citizenship and plurilingual social actor in Higher Education” and for the systematization of data analysis with the support of the statistical analysis program SPSS.
