The development of cutting models regarding the tridimensional character of the machining process became indispensable. The emergence and integration of the composite materials into industry have taken a growing scale, thus as studying the behavior of these composite materials during their processing becomes imperative. Within the technology transfer from conventional materials to the composite materials, integrating the cutting moments in the mathematical models is needed.

This phase II study evaluated prospectively the toxicity and efficacy in first-line of the paclitaxel-ifosfamide-cisplatin combination (TIP) in HRGCT patients and tried to identify biomarkers that may allow patient-tailored treatments. Between October 1997- September 2000, 28 chemo-naive HRGCT patients were enrolled. Patients received 4 cycles of TIP (paclitaxel 175 mg/m(2) day 1/; ifosfamide 1.2 g/m(2)/day, days 1-5; Mesna 1.2 g/m(2)/day, days 1-5; and cisplatin 20 mg/m(2)/day, days 1-5 every 3 weeks). A non-randomized comparison was made between HRGCT patients treated in the same period with first-line TIP and bleomycin-etoposide-cisplatin (BEP) (28 patients vs 20). In 17 HRGCT patients treated between 1998-2006, ERCC1, Topoisomerase 1 and 2A, p53 and HER-2 expression was retrospectively analysed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) (7 patients with TIP, 10 with BEP), and correlations were made wi...

The mechanism of interaction of the photosensitizers and light is discussed, along with the effects produced in the target tissue. PDT has been approved in many countries for the treatment of lung, esophageal, bladder, skin and head and neck cancers. The antitumor effects of this treatment result from the combination of direct tumor cell photodamage, destruction of tumor vasculature and activation of an immune response. The present status of clinical PDT is discussed along with the newer photosensitizers being used and their clinical roles. Despite the promising results from earlier clinical trials of PDT considerable additional work is needed to bring this new modality of treatment into modern clinical practice.

The invasive phenotype switching characterized by MITFlow/AXLhigh predicts early resistance to multiple targeted drugs in melanoma. Celecoxib proved to be a valuable adjuvant in cutaneous melanoma in preclinical studies. Our in vitro study evaluated for the first time whether celecoxib could prevent phenotype switching in two human melanoma cell lines treated with dabrafenib. Methods: All in vitro experiments were carried out on BRAF-V600E-positive A375 and SK-MEL-28 human melanoma cell lines, and subjected to a celecoxib and dabrafenib drug combination for 72 h. Melanoma cells were already in the MITFlow/AXLhigh end of the spectrum. Of main interest was the evaluation of the key proteins expressed in phenotype switching (TGF-β, MITF, AXL, YAP, TAZ), as well as cell death mechanisms correlated with oxidative stress production. Results: Celecoxib significantly enhanced t...

Some of pathogens adhere to mucosal epithelial cells or produce enzymes to destroy specific tissue. Upper respiratory tract infections are usually mild infections, but lower respiratory tract infections can determine significant morbidity, even mortality. The aim of this paper was establish the incidence and antibiotic resistance of bacterial pathogens involved in upper respiratory tract infections in 2016 - 2017 in Arges population. Were investigated 539 subjects and the antibiogram was performed for bacterial strains isolated from nasopharyngeal cavity. The most frequent bacteria were S. aureus and 20% from all strains were resistant to methicilline. The next pathogen, Str. pyogenes, was sensitive to penicillin and Str. pneumoniae strains were sensitive to all tested drugs. The staphylococcal and streptococcal infections were...

The flow-line comprises a number of machines that are arranged in series and the flow of products is continuous. The objective of this paper consists in the production rate prediction of a manufacturing system using the Fuzzy Logic method through ANFIS SUGENO and FIS MAMDANI. Input data are processed in ANFIS SUGENO to view the construction mode of the input membership functions in order to achieve our own model of FIS MAMDANI. Input variables' membership functions are modified by removing the values which exceed the representation range, after which the inference rules and the representation range of the output variables are to be established. The forms of membership functions are very important because they influence the prediction accuracy. A case study is carried out to demonstrate the performance and flexibility of the proposed approaches.

The article presents the flood risk for roads in Râmna's catchment. The main analysis is conducted in an area that includes Gura Caliţei and Dragosloveni villages and which has been severely affected by July 2005 floods. In sub-Carpathian catchment area roads are underdeveloped, with high vulnerability due to the materials that they are constructed of (many of earth), their narrowness, their areas with subcalibrated bridges. The risk analysis was performed taking into account the historical flood of 2005. Hazard maps, flood vulnerability and flood risk maps have been made for road infrastructure. They are fundamental in making emergency management plans. With the help of this maps the most vulnerable points of the roads in that area, were found. They are represented by the areas of bridges.

The surface of land covered by forests is in continuous decline, causing a significant problem fo... more The surface of land covered by forests is in continuous decline, causing a significant problem for the environment and the population. Loss of forest space through illegal deforestation followed by natural disasters, such as fires, landslides or floods are all affecting our planet. In the past years, the statistics which have been made indicated substantial fall in forest areas. This problem has been raised not just in Romania, but also internationally and researchers are attempting in different ways to combat deforestation and prevent disasters induced by big losses of wood. This article proposes a forest monitoring process to prevent illegal logging. The goal of the system is to identify the possible dangers by continuously recording the noise in the forest, by processing segments of the recorded signals and decide upon the nature of each of these segments. The system will implement an algorithm able to isolate the audio signal corresponding to cutting wood material (for example, by using a saw, etc.). Eventually, the system will produce an alarm to register the specific time when the event was detected. Alarms will be transmitted in real time and will notify the authorities to take actions to prevent illegal deforestation.

The aim is to analyze the cutting parameters influence (feed and cutting speed) on the torsor of mechanical actions, on the cutting moments respectively. To highlight the cutting moments generated by the milling process was developed a complex experimental protocol based on three-dimensional dynamometric measurements. The cutting moments are integrated and predicted using back-propagation neural networks method. Finally it is proposed a model that provides a good agreement between the measured values and calculated numerical values.

It has applications in fields such as industry, urban or ecology monitoring solutions, allowing to identify flaws or threats in industrial processes or ecological aspects. We propose, and experiment several methods, based on the GMM approach, for sound recognition. The first approach applies the sheer GMM to several feature sets, including LPC and Mel-cepstral features, for closed-set identification. The second one is GMMUBM, applied on the same types of features, to carry out open-set sound identification. It is intended to consolidate the recognition process by classifying uninteresting sounds outside the significant classes. We considered three types of noise: chainsaw, vehicles, and typical forest noise but intend to extend our research to more categories and to design a system meant to detect environmental threats.
