ZID is a series of kinetic sound objects. They were named as a tribute to The Degtyarev plant, commonly transliterated as Zаvоd imeni V. А. Dеgtyarevа and abbreviated as ZID. The plant specializes in the manufacture of guns, rocket anti-tank launchers, man-portable air-defense system missiles and motorcycles. The devices were created to celebrate the anniversary of the plant and exhibited at the corporate special event dedicated to this anniversary.
The gist of the project is to create a series of objects using the plant-manufactured components. We have done a small expedition to Kovrov city. At the plant workshop we’ve selected the components that we found useful for creating musical instruments. Some of these components were just discarded materials and fabricated parts odds and ends; some were real parts of future rockets, machinery and other factory products.

Magneto is a four stringed instrument. The strings start to vibrate due to changing magnetic field. A few high-powered magnets are located at computer cooling fan blades. The speed of the coolers changes constantly, therefore the magnetic field activity rate changes as well. Each of the four strings gradually breaks into oscillation or decays (it depends on resonance frequencies matching), which creates gradient chords. A non-identified detail makes a body of the instrument. It is flexible enough for the tuning to drift and create additional tonal effect. An acoustic pickup captures the sound.

Rocket is an object that imitates anti-tank missile flight sounds. A speaker and a small microphone base on two discs, which are actual components of the anti-tank missile. While they match in phase, so the speaker and the microphone are close, a feedback whistle sound appears, representing the flight of the missile. A small computer-cooling fan is installed there, it blows to the microphone when it goes beyond it, creating an outbound jet engine sound effect.

Snail is an abstract kinetic object. The core of the device is a weel spring that belonged to some unknown motor vehicle. A few flyweights found in the precise processing workshop rattle the spring.

Pendulums are kinetic pendulums operating as percussion instruments. Folded leftovers of stamped metal sheets are used as the object foundation.

ヘルメット is a randomized gong made of thick stainless steel sheet blank.

{ХРАП}; HARP; is a robotic harp made of all-terrain vehicle hull. A guitar pickup functions as a bow, making the instrument unique. Thus, the strings do not vibrate as it happens with an ordinary string instruments but rub together instead.
