Automatic annotation is not of sufficient quality to enable focused search and retrieval: either too many or too few terms are semantically annotated. User-defined semantic enrichment allows for a more targeted approach. We developed a tool for semantic annotation of digital documents and conducted an end-user study to evaluate its acceptance by and usability for non-expert users. This paper presents the results of this user study and discusses the lessons learned about both the semantic enrichment process and our methodology of exposing non-experts to semantic enrichment.

Questions asked by mobile users are strongly influenced by context factors, such as location and user activity. However in research which has empirically documented the link between mobile information needs and context factors, information about expected answers is scant. Therefore, the goal of this study is to explore the context factors which influence the mobile information needs and the answers expected by mobile ...

This paper introduces the first combination of a mobile tourist guide with a digital library. Location-based search allows for access to a rich set of materials with cross references between different digital library collections and the tourist information system. The paper introduces the system's design and implementation; it also gives details about the user interface and interactions, and derives a general set of requirements through a discussion of related work. Keywords: Digital Libraries, Tourist information, mobile system, ...

ABSTRACT Safety-critical medical devices are used in hospitals and medical facilities throughout ... more ABSTRACT Safety-critical medical devices are used in hospitals and medical facilities throughout the world, and are relied upon to function correctly and be usable so as not to endanger patients. While such devices are often designed for specific use-cases in specific locations, in reality they may be used in a much wider range of contexts. In addition, the proliferation of these devices within a single environment means that selecting the most appropriate device for a specific task is not always straightforward. In this paper, we consider ways of modelling the context of use of medical devices and how such models may be used to support tools which provide medical personnel with assistance in making decisions about which devices to use in which circumstances.

In this paper we present a study of how people select physical books from academic library shelves. We use the insights gained into book selection behavior to make suggestions for the design of ebook-based digital libraries in order to better facilitate book selection behavior.

We present a new approach to make the judicial workflows easier to understand. By using process modelling methods, the developed representation emphasises on improving transparency, on promoting mutual trust and on formalising models for verification.

Contrary to our initial expectations, customers do not necessarily engage in focused, joint information search, as observed in libraries, but rather the bookshop is treated as a social space similar to a cafe. Our results extend the known repertoire of collaborative behaviours, supporting further development of models of user tasks and goals. We compare our findings with previous work and discuss possible implications of our observations for the design of digital libraries as places of both information access and social interaction.

Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) often have memory impairments. We conducted a user study to learn about strategies individuals with TBI use to remember events in their lives. We explored what characteristics individuals with TBI expect of an augmented memory system. We then investigated these aspects in an initial mobile app design, and propose here a concept for a rehearsal application that addresses the issues found in our studies.

Some studies have already been done for the so-called adaptive semantic web, such as applying inferring rules. In this study, we apply the technology of Event Notification System (ENS). Treating changes as events, we developed a notification system for such events. 6
