Complex Event Processing

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the application of foundational ontologies, i.e., formal ontological theories in the philosophical sense, to provide a theoretically sound foundation for improving the theory and practice of conceptual modeling. In this paper, we present advances on our re- search on the ontological foundations of conceptual modeling by addressing the concept of events. We present a foundational ontology of events (termed UFO- B) together with its axiomatization in first-order logic. Moreover, we report on an implementation of UFO-B using the computational logic language Alloy, and discuss its consistency, validation and possible uses.

Providing engaging interpretation resources for museum and gallery visitors may have a great impact on the overall museum visiting experience all by assisting museums in maintaining long-term relationships with their public. This paper focuses on the ways through which AR can be employed in museum and gallery settings as an interpretation medium. It also introduces a new generation of multimedia guides for the museum visit inspired by the concept of Adaptive Augmented Reality (A2R). Adaptive Augmented Reality (A2R) provides visual and acoustic augmentations that come to supplement the artefact or site viewed by a museum or gallery visitor and monitors the cognitive and affective impact of all interactions of the museum visitor both with the physical and the digital environment. The ultimate goal is to make every museum visit unique, by tailoring an Augmented Reality visit with contents that are susceptible to increase the affective impact of the augmented museum visiting experience and hence encourage intrinsic and self-motivated learning.

"Smartphones are becoming a vehicle to provide an efficient and convenient way to access, find and share information; however, the availability of this information has caused an increase in cyber attacks. Currently, cyber threats range from Trojans and viruses to botnets and toolkits. Presently, 96% of smartphones do not have pre-installed security software. This lack in security is an  opportunity for malicious cyber attackers to hack into the various devices that are popular (i.e. Android, iPhone and Blackberry). Traditional security software found in personal computers (PCs), such as firewalls, antivirus, and encryption, is not currently available in smartphones. Moreover, smartphones are even more
vulnerable than personal computers because more people are using smartphones to do personal tasks. Nowadays, smartphone users can email, use social networking applications (Facebook and Twitter), buy and download various applications and shop. Furthermore, users can now conduct monetary transactions, such as buying goods, redeeming coupons and tickets, banking and processing point-of-sale payments. Monetary transactions are especially attractive to cyber attackers because they can gain access to bank account information after
hacking a user’s smartphone. Lastly, smartphones are small and are easy to carry anywhere. Unfortunately, the convenience of using smartphones to do personal task is the loophole cyber attackers need to gain access to personal data. Thus, this paper examines the importance of developing a national security policy created for mobile devices in order to protect sensitive,personal data."

Several recurrent themes emerge in this summary of the conference's seven panels:
 It is clear that cyberspace opens considerable potential opportunities for terrorist activities, including communication, fund-raising and attacks. It remains an open question whether terrorist uses of the Internet constitute an evolutionary or revolutionary dynamic. This question hinges, in part, on one’s view of how the Internet differs to earlier technologies.
 There are multiple constraints on terrorist engagements with cyberspace. First, the feasibility of the terrorist activities listed above varies considerably with some requiring very little technical knowledge and others necessitating a high level of expertise. In addition to this are further constraints such as financing and the comparative desirability of more traditional attacks for reasons of visibility or knowhow.
 A range of legal and political instruments are available within national and international bodies with which to confront the challenge of cyberterrorism. However, these instruments are limited by different factors including: different strategic cultures and capabilities across countries; the language and construction of existing legal instruments such as the ‘use of force’ requirement
in international law; and, sensitivities towards sharing information and data.
 Distinguishing between different types of cyber-threat is challenging, in part, because motives and behaviour in this realm are difficult to identify and monitor.
 The value of existing models and methods of deterrence to confront challenges such as cyberterrorism is unproved, at best.
 Efforts to address threats such as cyberterrorism raise considerable ethical as well as political, legal and technical challenges.
 Cyberterrorism has a discursive existence as well as a ‘material’ one. How this phenomenon is framed or constructed in media and political language matters greatly. 
 The disciplinary backgrounds and commitments of academics are not incidental within debate on the definition of cyberterrorism. In part, this is because of different views of the purposes of definition itself: to ensure effective communication between researchers and/or policymakers; to facilitate cooperation across jurisdictional boundaries; to distinguish terrorism from crime and war; or, to impose limits on investigative and prosecutorial powers.

These conclusions show clearly the considerable scope that exists for further multidisciplinary research into the issues surrounding responses to cyberterrorism, the threat that it poses and the concept itself.

En los últimos años las ciudades turísticas patrimoniales han mostrado un interés creciente por consolidarse en el mercado de los eventos. Estos tienen importantes ventajas competitivas frente a otros productos, ya que los visitantes gastan más que la media (Herrero et al., 2012), se mejora la imagen de marca de la ciudad (Richards y Wilson, 2007), sirven para diferenciar
espacios similares en muchas ciudades (Bernad Monferrer, 2011) y son más versátiles que otros recursos como el patrimonio edificado. El objetivo de la investigación es analizar el impacto del Festival Internacional Cervantino en la percepción de los turistas en Guanajuato (México) y en la visita a sus recursos patrimoniales. Para ello, se han aplicado cuestionarios
siguiendo la metodología Event Experience Scale (EES), con la que están trabajando actualmente miembros del grupo ATLAS Event Experience Research Project en casos similares de varios países. Para el caso concreto de Guanajuato se llevaron a cabo 230 encuestas a asistentes durante la edición del festival en 2015. De la investigación se puede concluir que existe una diferencia importante en la percepción del festival entre visitantes
locales, nacionales y extranjeros. La visita a recursos patrimoniales difiere de la esperada ante una llegada tan masiva de visitantes y de acuerdo con la promoción que se hace de los atractivos de la ciudad.
