Background:-Low Birth Weight (LBW) is one of the leading public health problems in developing countries including Ethiopia. Worldwide, more than 20 million infants born low birth weight every year. Of which about 13% to 15% occur in Sub-Saharan Africa. Thus, knowing clear picture of the risk factors of LBW in the study area is essential. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify determinants of LBW in all public health facilities in dire dawa city administration eastern Ethiopia.Methods: Unmatched case-control study was employed from 1 June to 1 august the data were collected using structured and pretested interviewer administered questionnaire in all public health facilities in study areas. Determinants of low birth weight in public health facilities, of Kambata Tembaro zone, South EthiopiaBack ground: Low birth weight (LBW) is a worldwide public health problem. Ethiopia is one of the countries greatly affected. LBW is not only the major cause of negative health outcome in infancy and childhood, but it also affects the health outcome in later life. The nutritional status of mother may have a great influence onbirth weight of the newborn and its early development. LBW imposes a considerable burden to health sector and on society as a whole. Objective: This study aims to assess the magnitude of LBW and associated factors among new bornin public hospitals of Addis Ababa Ethiopia. Methods: Hospital based cross-sectional study was undertaken from April to May 2015. A total of 457 mothers were proportionally elected from the three hospitals and interviewed using Pre tested structured interviewer administered questionnaire. La democrazia degli antichi, che di fatto coincide con il sistema politico istituito ad Atene intorno al 460 a.C. e durato poi poco più di un cinquantennio, è stata di frequente chiamata in causa, nella storia del pensiero politico occidentale, come termine di confronto rispetto alla democrazia dei moderni. In determinate epoche e momenti cruciali, sin dalla prima età moderna, il richiamo più o meno esplicito e diretto al modello classico ha costituito perciò una fonte pressoché inesauribile per ogni genere di comparazione sui classici “temi” democratici: dalla collocazione della legge come misura universale e condivisa della comunità dei cittadini all’affermazione di un principio di uguaglianza di fronte a essa; dal riconoscimento e dalla tutela dei diritti individuali e collettivi al rispetto e all’esercizio della libertà di parola e di espressione; dalla necessità di garantire un dibattito plurale fra le diverse parti politiche all’individuazione del problema della rappresentanza; e altri e numerosi temi potrebbero ancora essere evocati. Di fronte alla crisi che attanaglia i sistemi democratici contemporanei e rimette in causa la nozione stessa di democrazia, può essere di qualche utilità e interesse interrogare alcuni fra i più implacabili critici della democrazia ateniese, per valutare se dai loro severi giudizi emergano elementi o spunti che ci aiutino a comprendere in modo più adeguato la crisi attuale, se non per prospettarne soluzioni, quantomeno per individuarne i possibili esiti. A questo fine verranno prese in considerazione alcune pagine dello storico Tucidide (part. libro II 37-41 e 65), del commediografo Aristofane (con riferimento ai Cavalieri) e di Platone (dal libro VIII della Repubblica).
