Literature of Dissent discusses How dissent affects one's own identity and reforms it.
This paper tries to explore the counter-discourse dimension in the works of Frantz Fanon and Muhammad Iqbal. Orientalism divides world into two halves, namely, the Orient and the Occident. This division is not done on equal footing, rather Orient is placed in opposition to Occident. If Orient is place of barbarism, ignorance and moral deprivation, then Occident is full of culture, knowledge and ethical values. This asymmetrical relationship makes Occident all what Orient is not. In this way, west projected itself as a place of human values and ethics where human evolution has reached to its apex, both culturally and biologically. In this paper an attempt has been made to highlight the role played by Fanon and Iqbal in deconstructing the myth of the superior Occident by exposing the anti-human and materialistic nature of the imperial west.

Published by the end of the Second World War, “Dialectic of Enlightenment” denies hopes that many put in the present and future of the “free world”. Individuals were totally subordinated to anonymous apparatus of production and consumption which is legitimized through “culture industry”. The ending of Enlightenment project of emancipation from the forces of nature in the overwhelming rule (dominance) of society over the individual, was the starting point of analysis. This dialectic could not be separated from the program Enlightenment principles of knowledge as power (over nature). By establishing of dominance as the sole treatment of external and internal nature, suffers not only nature, but also the spirit. Therefore, the question how to get out of dialectical connection of mind and domination that ends in the negation of man's life and personality, appears. Frankfurt Scholl thinkers claim that rationality which is created within the society of exchange has the potentials which represent a negation of that society. We need to find a new form of relationship between thinking and being, mind and nature, beyond the false alternative of dominance of one or the other. The new paradigm of the relationship between mind and nature suggests the reconciliation of previously conflicting forces that will overcome the rate at which nature was completely reduced to a subordinate object of domination and oppression.
