The authors introduce for discussion all preserved fragments of an armour from burial 2 of the " Roshava Dragana " in Bulgaria, which yielded remains of a chain mail, fragments of scale armour and badly preserved plate set. This armament was supplemented by a silvered Roman face-mask helmet. Apart from this helmet, armament was non-Roman, but seems to be of either Sarmatian or Parthian origin. The most intriguing in burial 2 of " Roshava Dragana " barrow was the presence of Sarmatian tamgas on the golden pommel and on the bronze belt's buckle and images of two-headed dogs on the plates of the armour. " Roshava Dragana " is one of the largest barrows in Bulgaria and there could be buried a very influential nobleman. In our opinion, in late 1 st century AD the most important man in the neighborhood was Titus Flavius Dinis, the son of Skeles of the tribe of Quirinus. He was Archiereus of koinon trakon — the general assembly of the Thracians. It is possible that villa Chatalka and barrow " Roshava Dragana " were connected with Dinis family. Is not found no evidence was found to prove participation of Dinis in campaigns against the Sarmatians and Dacians. But some parts of defensive armament from " Roshava Dragana " can be attributed as a trophy. Based on the analysis of the remaining elements of the armour, we can assume that many of its items find parallels on the Sarmatian territory and in armament of the neighbors. Apparently, this armour could be manufactured in Panticapaeum, since there is only one analogy of a two-headed dog image, like the one on the armour.

В. А. Кулаковского) / Kubarev G.V., Zhuravlev D.V. Armor from the catacomb grave from Hospital'naya Street in Kerch (excavations 1891 of Professor Y.A. Kulakovsky)2012 •
The article is introduced the almost unpublished materials from catacomb grave, investigated by Professor Y. Kulakovsky in 1891 at the Gospital’naya street in Kerch. Now the main part of the finds is in the State Historical Museum (Moscow) and some are in the State Hermitage (St. Petersburg). Among the most interesting finds are remains of one (or, probably, two) armour. The armour was made of 7 types of lamellar, most of which has a cut on one side or shaped edges. According to its’ construction and decoration this armor is very close to some protecting armament of Avars in Central and Eastern Europe. However, he has direct analogies with the numerous archaeological finds and depictions of such protective armor in the Middle and Central Asia. This armour has undoubtedly a Central Asian origin. Considered protective armor from Kerch as well as the catacomb grave could be dated to the second half of VI – VII centuries AD.
The article is about the chain mail from grave 11 of Mezmay-1 necropolis dated to the late first century BC — early first century AD. It belonged to a noble woman and contained rich grave goods. The article also introduces for discussion other chain mails from this necropolis and considers genesis and chronology of chain mails. The one from grave 11 is not similar to a short body armour without sleeves, typical for La-Tene, Hellenistic and Roman Republican traditions. It could be one of the earliest long chain mails. Body armours of this kind were used in Parthia and Sassanid Iran. It is not clear yet, whether the long chain mails appear in the North-Western Caucasus under the eastern influences or independently.

Materials from Neizats cemetery in the Central Crimea that are being actively published in recent years contain several groups of finds attracting attention due to their parallels in the archaeology of the Kama Area. This paper addresses a type of scabbard, which isolated find occurs among the materials from the Sarmatian period in the Kama Area. Its construction became widespread later (in the Kama area and in the cemeteries in the Riazan’ – Oka Area). The idea is to discuss the connection between an early find from Grave 88 in Ust’-Sarapulka cemetery and the artefacts of similar construction originating from Druzhnoe and Neizats cemeteries.

Parade horse harness and horse armour from the inter-tumuli space of the Prokhorovka necropolis.

М. Необычный элемент в составе накосника из погребения 695Б Варнинского могильника \ Krasnopeorov A.A., Sabirova T.M. An unusual element in the decoration for a braid from burial 695B of the Varna burial ground2023 •
The article analyzes the case of atypical use of a fastener as an element of the headpiece from burial 695B of Varna burial ground. The burial is dated to the second half of the 8th century. It contains many adornments of a women's costume, among which there are paired composite braid’s decorations. As a pendant, one of them used a loop-like clasp, which has direct analogies in the materials of the upper Kama region and the Mari Volga region. According to the materials of the Mari burial grounds, it was established that this type of fasteners was used as shoe clasps. Spreading to the north and east, fasteners changed their functionality. So, in the upper Kama region they were used to fasten a handbag or outerwear. The authors recorded a case of using a fastener as a “souvenir” part of a multi-component decoration. This allows expanding the understanding of the change in the function of an object when it enters a foreign cultural environment.

EARLY CHRISTIAN CAVE SANCTUARY OF TIGRANAKERT IN ARTSAKH (in Russian). An early Christian complex consisted of rock cut church, narthex and graveyard is located in the rocky bank of the Khachenaget River, 3,3 km away from Tigranakert. The excavations of the complex were carried out in 2006. At the beginning the complex consisted of series of natural karstic caves. In the Hellenistic period the upper part of the cave was reconstructed as a sanctuary. During the 5-6th centuries because of the dimensional changes the sanctuary was turned into the church and the narthex. The graveyard was added where sarcophagus funerals were made. The road was built with its protective components. Most of the cross compositions were engraved. The crosses placed on stairs or stick, they are encircled in ornaments and carry Greek initials of the Christ. Also flower and bird ornaments accompany them symbolizing the victory over death, Salvation and the Paradise. During the 8tt-9th centuries new cross compositions and Armenian inscriptions were added by pilgrims. In the 11th century the complex became a place of nomadic tribes, then it was abandoned. Due to the excavations 300 m part of rock canal of the complex which is situated in the lower part was discovered and investigated.
