1999, The changing Tradition. Women in the History of Rhetoric,
“Verbum invisibile palpabitur : les Sibylles dans la seconde moitié du XVe siècle”, in The changing Tradition. Women in the History of Rhetoric, University of Calgary Press, 1999, p. 85-96. A new sibyl, born from the Christian tradition of interpreting the classics, is added to the the twelve antic prophetesses : the inclusion of Falconia Proba into the list of the Sibyls is studied through the analysis of textual repetition as poetics and oracular means.

Mircea Eliade’s Interwar American Project: In his first year spent in India, 1929, Mircea Eliade nurtured two projects related to America, which remained unaccomplished. On the one hand, he was planning a long return trip to his homeland, which would pass through the United States. On the other hand, he considered obtaining a teaching position in an American university, the first target being Harvard. This early American project – hitherto unexplored – becomes symbolic in the perspective of Eliade’s subsequent evolution and choices. Decades later, as a professor at the University of Chicago, he turned down an invitation to occupy a chair at Harvard, which offered him far better conditions and opportunities than those in Chicago. We present here the first results of an ongoing research that tries to clarify all the details related to the young Eliade’s American project.

Addendum 2]2023 •
A lost manuscript book. The world geography copied by Sava Popovici from Rășinari (1785): The paper discusses a manuscript book – known in a copy made by the priest Sava Popovici (1735-1808) from Rășinari in the year 1785 –, which was described in 1912 and 1915. Its trace was completely lost afterwards and it attracted attention only once, in a marginal way. Our research has led to the identification of the original – a Russian introductory book for the students of the Saint Petersburg academic gymnasium – and to a plausible proposal for its anonymous author: the Prussian astronomer Christian Nicolaus von Winsheim (1694-1751), who was teaching after the famous schoolbook of Johann Hübner. We are also proposing the most probable author of the translation: the schoolmaster Radu Duma (174?-1791) from Brașov. Its final sections discuss the image of India as described in its chapter on Asia and, respectively, its probable use as a textbook in a number of schools from the South-Eastern part of Transylvania: Brașov, Rășinari, and Sibiu.

Wolfdietrich Fischer and the Emergence of Arabic Syntax
This research aims at the following: First: exploring the role of the German orientalist Wolfdietrich Fischer in the influence other grammars (Greek, and Syriac) had on Arabic syntax in the early stages of its emergence before Sibawayh, and demonstrating the arguments he considered then invalidate them. Fisher was taking from other Orientalists, therefore, his argument on the subject was without true awareness on the history of the stage. Second: Stating the academic value of Al-Khawarizmi's book "Keys to Sciences", which Fischer used to prove the influence theory on which he built his research at, and highlighting that he stands not a mark in the history of Syntax and its development. Third: repeal the unjust separation between Sibawayh and his mentor Al-Khalil on the Syntax history, and that Al-Khalil is for him the end of this supposed influence stage while he made Sibawayh represent the beginning of an Arab stage in which Arabic syntax was established purely and away from influence relations and grounds.

Bells used in Christian churches are documentary sources due to the inscriptions, decorations and coats of arms available on them. Depending on the language in which the inscriptions were made, old bells had different names. The bells used to be donated to the churches by private persons, by the right of the founder, or by communities; the oldest bells of the medieval Moldavian state date back to the reign of Stephen the Great. The alloy used for bell casting contained copper, brass and a minor amount of silver or other elements. Bellfounders were itinerant, traveling from church to church to cast bells, the furnaces were built on sites, and the casting of large bells was carried out only during the warmer months. The most lasting operation was building the furnace and constructing the mold, and the most dangerous process was pouring the melt metal in a mold. This was followed by controlled cooling the bell, removing the mold material after the metal has solidifi ed, and finishing t...
