The study was conducted to investigate the performance of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System in Rakibnagor Slum, Sakhipur under Tangail District. For investigating the performance sample was collected from outlet of the decentralized wastewater treatment system whereas different parameters such as DO, BOD, pH, EC, TDS, alkalinity and hardness of the water samples were analyzed. The measured values of physicochemical parameters of water sample collected from the outlet of decentralized wastewater treatment system were: DO (4.4 mg/l), BOD (2.4 mg/l), pH (7.8), EC (1521 µs/cm), TDS (757 mg/l), alkalinity (260 mg/l) and hardness (253.2 mg/l). The study revealed that most of the water quality parameters were suitable for irrigation and fisheries. But the measured values of hardness and Electrical Conductivity (EC) exceeded the standard limit for irrigation and fisheries. Introduction Water is very important abiotic component of the environment. Without water life on earth would no...

About 12.5 million people use potable drinking water supplied by DWASA. Water thus supplied by DWASA is first stored at the underground reservoir and then pumped to overhead reservoirs at household level. This study focuses on the quality of water supplied by DWASAboth in dry and wet seasons by determining presence and amounts of different parameters like Ammonia, Chlorine and Fecal Coliform.Presence of fecal coliform in water is the indication of animal or human waste and pathogens causing serious illness. Water containing high ammonia induces taste and odor problem as well as decreased disinfection. Chlorine in water acts a disinfectant but excess amount causes odor problem. This study evaluates the quality of water supplied by DWASA collected from pumping stations, standpipes, house connections as well as water collected from storage reservoirs of different households at different zones of Dhaka city. No definite evidence was found that water supplied by DWASA contained Fecal Coliform. However, presence of Fecal Coliform was observed in samples collected from different areas, especially, the older parts of Dhaka City. Presence of Fecal Coliform in different samples indicate the possibility of leakage in the distribution network and contamination in household water reservoirs.

This study deals with evaluating the surrounding environment at some selected locations (Hazaribagh, Mitford Ghat, Sadarghat and Postogola) around Buriganga River, to evaluate the river’s water quality in terms of some very fundamental water quality parameters (such as pH, temperature, alkalinity, turbidity, iron, chloride and BOD). To do this assessment for the Buriganga River, the study area was chosen to find out the water quality parameters such as the pH of water of river Buriganga was shown a variation from 7.4 to 6.8. The right bank of the river holds higher pH value from the left bank and middle. The colour of the river water was shown a variation from 322 to 756 mg/l. The turbidity of the river water was shown in a variation of 7.2 NTU to 55 NTU. The chloride of water of the river Buriganga was found in a range of 55 mg/l to 178 mg/l. Alkalinity of water of the river Buriganga was found to vary from 370 mg/l to 471 mg/l. Among them 370 mg/l was shown in Hazaribagh and 471 m...

In this paper, I argue that Marx's political and social theory expresses ideas that we can characterize as " radical republican " in nature. By this term, I mean a theory of the nature of human beings as essentially social in nature, of free individuality as a function of the developed interdependence of the social context within to which one has access for self-development, of a concept of the common good as the socioeconomic wealth of the community as oriented toward the ends of social and individual developmental aims and goods, and a concept of justice as the maintenance of these basic criteria. Marx's critique of capitalism is therefore more than a technical critique or an ethical critique, it is a genuinely political critique in that is embraces the economic and social dimensions of human reality. Marx's ideas about exploitation, alienation, commodity fetishism, and so on, all are categories that describe the defective nature of capitalism as the negation of the values of radical republican ideas. In this sense, Marx should be seen as being nourished by as well as developing the republican ideas that inspired other theorists such as Machiavelli, Rousseau and Hegel. I end with the consideration of how this interpretation affects Marxian theory and practice.
