— Diagnosis, and monitoring of health is a very important task in healthcare industry. Due to time constraint, people are not visiting hospitals, which might and possibly lead to a lot of health issues in one instant of time. Predominantly most of the healthcare systems have been developed to predict and diagnose the health of the patients by which people who are busy in their schedule can also monitor their health at regular intervals. Many studies show that early prediction is the best way to cure health because early diagnosis will help and alert the patients to know the health status. Healthcare being a global issue more particularly India being a most populated nation where majority of which live in villages deprived of healthcare facilities on real time basis continuously and regularly. With the increasing use of technology, there is an urgent need to have such a smart health monitoring system that can communicate between network devices and application which will help the patients and doctors to monitor, track and record the patient's sensitive data containing medical information. This paper depicts the idea of solving health issues using the latest technology, Internet of Things (IoT). It presents the architectural review of smart healthcare system using Internet of Things(IoT) which is aimed to provide a Better HealthCare to everyone. Using this system architecture, patient's body parameters can be measured in real time.

The system we describe in this paper is an indoor intelligent system, that is still under development. Our goal is to evolve the system with abilities suitable for a domestic robot, that has to cope with a continuously evolving ambient, the house. The interest of the system relies in its architecture that has been studied and designed for the purpose of integrating some specific cognitive behavior like perception, symbolic map construction and making decisions in a whole hierarchy of intercommunicating levels.

This paper describes a user study regarding the human need to stay in touch with closely related people. The study was a combination of interviews and diaries. This user needs analysis has informed the design of a novel end-to-end communication system for helping closely related people, who are spread geographically, to stay in touch. The design concept is described in brief, followed by a summary of ongoing implementation and assessment work.

This paper describes the planned research in the SuperAssist project, introducing personal assistants in the care of diabetes patients among the patients themselves, medical specialists looking after their healthcare and technical specialist maintaining the health of the devices involved. The paper discusses the issues of trust and cooperation as the critical success factors within this multi-user multi-agent project and within the future of agent-based healthcare attempting to increase the self-help abilities of individual patients.

The design and realization of health monitoring systems has attracted the interest of large communities both from industry and academia. Remote and continuous monitoring of patient’s vital signs is the target of an emerging business market that aims both to improve the quality of life of patients and to reduce costs of national healthcare services. Such applications, however, are particularly critical from the point of view of dependability. This presents the design of a set of services for the assurance of high degrees of dependability to generic mobile health monitoring systems. An integrated network of mobile robots, personal smart devices, and smart spaces called " Robots-Assisted Ambient Intelligence " (RAmI) can provide for a more effective user assistance than if the former resources are used individually. Additionally, with the application of distributed network optimization, not only can we improve the assistance of an individual user, but we can also minimize conflict or congestion created when multiple users in large installations use the limited resources of RAmI that are spatially and temporally constrained. The emphasis of RAmI is on the efficiency and effectiveness of multiple and simultaneous user assistance and on the influence of an individual's actions on the desired system's performance. In this paper, we model RAmI as a multi-agent system with AmI, user, and robot agents. Moreover, we propose a modular three-layer architecture for each robot agent and discuss its application and communication requirements to facilitate efficient usage of limited RAmI resources. Our approach is showcased by means of a case study where we focus on meal and medicine delivery to patients in large hospitals.

Recent years have seen an influx of medical technologies capable of remotely monitoring the health and behaviours of individuals to detect, manage and prevent health problems.  Known collectively as personal health monitoring (PHM), these systems are intended to supplement medical care with health monitoring outside traditional care environments such as hospitals, ranging in complexity from mobile devices to complex networks of sensors measuring physiological parameters and behaviours.  This research project assesses the potential ethical implications of PHM as an emerging medical technology, amenable to anticipatory action intended to prevent or mitigate problematic ethical issues in the future.

PHM fundamentally changes how medical care can be delivered: patients can be monitored and consulted at a distance, eliminating opportunities for face-to-face actions and potentially undermining the importance of social, emotional and psychological aspects of medical care.  The norms evident in this movement may clash with existing standards of ‘good’ medical practice from the perspective of patients, clinicians and institutions.    By relating utilitarianism, virtue ethics and theories of surveillance to Habermas’ concept of colonisation of the lifeworld, a conceptual framework is created which can explain how PHM may be allowed to change medicine as a practice in an ethically problematic way.  The framework relates the inhibition of virtuous behaviour among practitioners of medicine, understood as a moral practice, to the movement in medicine towards remote monitoring. 

To assess the explanatory power of the conceptual framework and expand its borders, a qualitative interview empirical study with potential users of PHM in England is carried out.  Recognising that the inherent uncertainty of the future undermines the validity of empirical research, a novel epistemological framework based in Habermas’ discourse ethics is created to justify the empirical study.  By developing Habermas’ concept of translation into a procedure for assessing the credibility of uncertain normative claims about the future, a novel methodology for empirical ethical assessment of emerging technologies is created and tested.  Various methods of analysis are employed, including review of academic discourses, empirical and theoretical analyses of the moral potential of PHM.  Recommendations are made concerning ethical issues in the deployment and design of PHM systems, analysis and application of PHM data, and the shortcomings of existing research and protection mechanisms in responding to potential ethical implications of the technology.

Overview of ongoing research in the CISA group (WISE research lab) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The group is investigating cross-media information spaces and architectures, interactive paper and augmented reality solutions as well as multimodal and multi-touch interaction frameworks. Thereby, we are doing research on new document formats for representing information across different types of media as well as fluid user interfaces for interacting with the resulting cross-media information spaces. A significant part of our research is based on applying and extending the resource-selector-link (RSL) hypermedia metamodel.

Purpose The use of Assistive Technologies (ATs) for residential dementia care is increasing, yet there is a gap between what individuals want, what developers design, and how outcomes are evaluated. Despite widespread acceptance that ATs improve quality of living (QOL), there is relatively little data to support such claims. This article discusses the current state-of-the-art AT-design, its use and assessment in relation to dementia care and projected future trends that can be incorporated into research now. Method By reviewing a history of ATs used in residential dementia care, incorporating societal and healthcare trends and applying theories of science, a futuristic view of AT-development and use is presented. The theoretical foundation is rooted in phenomenology, universal design, aging in place and gerontechnology. This research is supported by results from a European Commission-funded project where ATs were integrated and tested in real life conditions and evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively by older adults with dementia as well as their formal and informal caregivers. Results & Discussion The results shows the need for future ATs to be more integrated into the environment, combined with ambient and intelligent technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), and the potential of cloud
computing. They will also become more personalized to individual needs and user requirements.

Light Blue Optics’ holographic laser projection
technology is uniquely suited as a light engine for
automotive head-up display (HUD) applications, providing
high brightness images with low speckle contrast and wide
colour gamut whilst being robust and fault-tolerant. This
paper describes the operation of the technology and its
advantages, demonstrating – for the first time – the
operation of a full-colour, laser-based automotive HUD
which is capable of displaying both symbology and night
vision virtual imagery. The ability of the projector to
correct for distortion introduced by the windshield
curvature is demonstrated, showing significant progress
towards a ‘one-size-fits-all’ HUD.

This paper presents the architecture and VHDL design of a Two Dimensional Discrete Cosine Transform (2D-DCT) with Quantization and zigzag arrangement. This architecture is used as the core and path in JPEG image compression hardware. The 2D-DCT calculation is made using the 2D-DCT Separability property, such that the whole architecture is divided into two 1D-DCT calculations by using a transpose buffer. Architecture for Quantization and zigzag process is also described in this paper. The quantization process is done using division operation. This design aimed to be implemented in Spartan-3E XC3S500 FPGA. The 2D-DCT architecture uses 1891 Slices, 51I/O pins, and 8 multipliers of one Xilinx Spartan-3E XC3S500E FPGA reaches an operating frequency of 101.35 MHz One input block with 8 x 8 elements of 8 bits each is processed in 6604 ns and pipeline latency is 140 clock cycles .

UML has become the standard language for modelling in different areas and domains, but it is widely recognized that it lacks support for User Interface Design (UID). On the other hand, ConcurTaskTree (CTT) is one of the most widely used notations for task and dialogue modelling. An important achievement is the proposed notation and semantics for CTT by extending the UML metamodel, proving that task modelling in user interface design can be accomplished by a UML compliant notation. For the interface structure design was proposed that UML’s CTT could be complemented with Canonical Abstract Prototypes (CAP) leading to a model-based user interface design method co-specified by the presentation (CAP) and behaviour (UML’s CTT) perspectives. In this paper we propose another step in this UID method by defining a specific model compliant with the OMG recommended Model Driven Architecture (MDA), which will be the intermediary between the design model and an implementation of the user interface. This proposal will align the UID method with the MDA recommendation making it possible to automatically generate interface prototypes from conceptual models.
