ABSTRACT: The free-energy principle states that all systems that minimize their free energy resist a tendency to physical disintegration. Originally proposed to account for perception , learning, and action, the free-energy principle has been applied to the evolution, development, morphology, anatomy and function of the brain, and has been called a postulate, an unfalsifiable principle, a natural law, and an imperative. While it might afford a theoretical foundation for understanding the relationship between environment , life, and mind, its epistemic status is unclear. Also unclear is how the free-energy principle relates to prominent theoretical approaches to life science phenomena, such as organicism and mechanism. This paper clarifies both issues, and identifies limits and prospects for the free-energy principle as a first principle in the life sciences.

A strategy for adaptive control and energetic optimization of aerobic fermentors was implemented, with both air flow and agitation speed as manipulated variables. This strategy is separable in its components: control, optimization, estimation. We optimized parameter’s estimation (from the usual KLa correlation) using sinusoidal excitation of air flow and agitation speed. We have implemented parameter’s estimation trough recursive least squares algorithm with forgetting factor. We carried separate essays on control, optimization and estimation algorithms. We carried our essays using an original computational simulation environment, with noise and delay generating facilities for data sampling and filtering.

Our results show the convergence and robustness of the estimation algorithm used, improved with use of both forgetting factor and KLa dead-band facilities. Control algorithm used in our work compares favorably with PID using the integrated area criteria for deviation between oxygen molarity and critical molarity (set point). Optimization algorithm clearly reduces energetic consumption, respecting critical molarity. Integration of control, optimization and adaptive algorithms was implemented, but future work is needed for stability. Methods were defined and implemented for stability improvement. We have implemented data acquisition and computer manipulation of air flow and agitation speed for actual fermentors.

The attempt to establish a unified taxonomy for the field of Information Ethics is both unattainable and unwarranted. The categorization of Information Ethics as a defined discipline, an applicable practice, a philosophy and a worldview remains constantly in flux due to, what Luciano Floridi terms, ‘philosophical naturalism’. As such, a broadening understanding of the field will only serve to further collapse categorization. The following paper will outline, using a discourse analysis methodology, how the nature of the field of Information Ethics at a foundational level must necessarily defy classification. The assumptions behind the current classifications of the field will be questioned. Beginning with the history of the inception of the field through Librarianship and Cybernetics and questioning the yet unresolved ontological debates between information philosophers such as Rafael Capurro and Floridi, this paper will explicate how any such attempt to develop an agreed upon taxonomy will and should always remain incomplete.

A base-4 leading zero detector (LZD) design is proposed in this paper. The design is similar to the approach originally proposed by V.G. Oklobdzija with a different technique. The circuit modules used in the base-4 LZD approach are designed and several N-bit LZD circuits are implemented with a standard-cell realization in the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) 0.65um CMOS process. The performance and layout area of the base-4 LZD realization is compared for implementations that contain only 4-to-1 and 2-to-1 multiplexers.

Bromelain is a general name for a family of sulfhydryl-containing, proteolytic enzymes obtained from
Ananas comosus. In this work we have performe Sequence analysis, Functional, Structural &
Phylogenetic analysis and Prediction of protein structure of Stem Bromelain protein using different
Bio-informatics tools and databases like as NCBI, BLAST, FASTA, Clustal W, Protein Data Bank etc.
Sequence Similarity was search using BLAST against Homo sapiens protein database. Stem& Fruit
Bromelain was extracted from Stem & Fruit of Pineapple plant which contains the enzymes Stem
Bromelain (Cysteine endopeptidase ) and Fruit Bromelain (Aspartic endopeptidase), respectively.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are an increasing threat to the Internet community. Intrusion detection systems have become a key component in ensuring the safety of systems and networks. As networks grow in size and speed, efficient scalable techniques should be available for IDS systems. Gnutella is a peer to-peer networking model that currently provides decentralized file-sharing capabilities to its users but the distinction between server and client is pale. Due to Gnutella’s dependence on a central unit, the program is vulnerable to security breaches. An intrusion detection system to detect DDoS attacks by simulating artificial immune system is herein described. The proposed system used anomaly and signature-based detection. Each time an attack is identified, a new generation is added to the detectors dataset. As false positives decrease, attack detection increases.

This paper describes the implementation of Distributed Active Filters (DAFs). To share the workload of harmonic filtering, several Active Filter Units (AFUs) are placed on different locations which can perform the harmonic filtering without a direct communication. Different configurations of DAFs are described and are implemented using MATLAB /Simpower system Toolbox environment to observe their performances and comparison.
