The science of graphology and projective techniques of psychology have roots in the unconscious mind of the individual and its imagination. Imagination is the skill to think about new objects, ideas or thoughts and to create out of previous events, experiences, which were read or seen in a new order to produce novel event altogether with an added dimension of any contemporary thought. The blank picture of Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) is best suited to tap the imagination which free from any image. An individual has open ended wide array of brain’s eye to pen down the imagination. Handwriting is an art known as ‘brain writing’. Graphology is discipline of identifying brain writing emerged from brain’s eye. The aim of this paper was to examine the capability of handwriting analysis vis-a-vis the blank story written in the TAT in relation to the imagination of the subjects. The seven samples of handwriting of stories written in the blank picture of TAT were taken. The richness of imagination exercised was assessed by both techniques namely handwriting analysis and TAT. Seven features of handwriting which depicts imaginations were upper zone, arcades, loops, t bar above stem, crossing t bar over looped stem, round i dot placed high above the stem and sharp accent i dot high above the stem. The scoring of the TAT has been largely restricted to content analysis, a qualitative approach of assessment. The scoring of the story in blank picture has included three aspects for richness of imagination which can be categorized- fantasy, realistic and preconceived.  The results suggest that both techniques have great deal of relation in assessing imagination.

Numerical Flow Analysis (NFA) predictions of the flow around a transom-stern hull form are compared to laboratory measurements collected at NSWCCD. The simulations are two-phase, three-dimensional, and unsteady. Each required 1.15 billion grid cells and 200,000 CPU hours to accurately resolve the unsteady flow and obtain a sufficient statistical ensemble size. Two speeds, 7 and 8 knots, are compared. The 7 knots (Fr=Uo /√gLo=0.38) case is a partially wetted transom condition and the 8 knots (Fr=0.43) case is a dry transom condition. The results of a detailed comparison of the mean free surface elevation, surface roughness (RMS), and spectra of the breaking stern-waves, measured by Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) and Quantitative Visualization (QViz) sensors, are presented. All of the comparisons showed excellent agreement. The concept of height-function processing is introduced, and the application of this type of processing to the simulation data shows a k-5/3 power law behavior for both the 7 and 8 knot cases. The simulations also showed that a multiphase shear layer forms in the rooster-tail region and that its thickness depends on the Froude number.

Manufactured by leading American globe-making companies, slated globes were adopted in the second half of the nineteenth century as educational aid materials, recommended for teaching world geography from the 4th grade on. Focusing on their production and use in the US context at the turn of the twentieth century, and following an examination of their role in teaching American children the fundaments of terrestrial geography, I probe these now forgotten, blank, black, educational table globes’ capacity in offering a timely “spatial fix” to the prosaic finality of an already overly and overtly known world that the globally rising US Empire was grappling with. Provoking, in equal measure, playfulness and patriotism, I argue, slated globes were washed of imperial colors and freed of the border lines imposed on them, drained of water and emptied of landmasses, only to be once more scathed, and tattooed with lines, colors, and names, watered and landed—in sum, to be “globed” in the hands of the generations of American youth, future stewards of the US Empire who were learning how to (re-)imagine the terra that was already made cognita by earlier colonial powers. Furthermore, I read slated globes as generative of terra incognita iterum (territory made unknown again)—a terra incognita of a different kind and for different purposes than the terra nondum cognita (territory yet unknown) of the previous centuries: a blank fraught with colonial urges of a young empire and charged with imperial pedagogics.
