Carola Blitzman Eisenberg, MD, now retired but actively involved in human rights work through Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), and elsewhere, was the Dean of Students of MIT (the first woman to hold that position at MIT), then Dean of Student Affairs at Harvard Medical School (HMS) (1978–1990). She has for a long time been Lecturer in the newly renamed Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at HMS (formerly the Department of Social Medicine). She is also Honorary Psychiatrist with the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a longstanding position there.

Edward M. Hundert, M.D. is the Dean for Medical Education and the Daniel D. Federman, M.D. Professor in Residence of Global Health and Social Medicine and Medical Education at Harvard Medical School, where he is also Associate Director of the Center of Bioethics at HMS. Hundert is a member of the TIAA Board of Trustees of TIAA-CREF.

Hundert was graduated from Yale University, summa cum laude, in 1978 with a degree in mathematics and the history of science and medicine, receiving Yale’s annual Russell Henry Chittenden Prize “to the graduating senior with highest standing in mathematics and the natural sciences.” He attended Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar, earning a degree in philosophy, politics, and economics in 1980. He received his M.D. in 1984 from Harvard Medical School, where he remained to do his residency training in psychiatry at McLean Hospital.

Dr. Hundert has spent most of his professional career at Harvard Medical School. Following residency training, he was appointed Director of Postgraduate and Continuing Medical Education at McLean Hospital and became involved in the development of the Harvard’s New Pathway Curriculum. He then served as Associate Dean for Student Affairs at Harvard Medical School from 1990 to 1997. He left Harvard for nine years in his 40s, spending 5 years at the University of Rochester, where he served as Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and 4 years at Case Western Reserve University, where he served as President. He returned to Harvard Medical School to lead a new curriculum in medical ethics and professionalism and to serve as Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning until 2014, when he was appointed Dean for Medical Education to lead the development of Harvard’s Pathways curriculum.

Hundert’s articles on education, ethics, psychiatry, and philosophy have appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the American Journal of Psychiatry, Academic Medicine, Psychiatry, Medical Education, and the Journal of Clinical Ethics. His books include Philosophy, Psychiatry and Neuroscience: Three Approaches to the Mind (Oxford University Press, 1989) and Lessons from an Optical Illusion: On Nature and Nurture, Knowledge and Values (Harvard University Press, 1995)

Leon Eisenberg, M.D., D.Sc. (August 8, 1922 – September 15, 2009) was an American child psychiatrist, social psychiatrist and medical educator who "transformed child psychiatry by advocating research into developmental problems"

He is credited with a number of "firsts" in medicine and psychiatry - in child psychiatry, autism, and the controversies around autism, randomized clinical trials (RCTs), social medicine, global health, affirmative action,[4] and evidence-based psychiatry. Having retired in 1967 from Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Child and adolescent psychiatry (he was the chairman of the department after Leo Kanner)[5] and from Harvard Medical School in 1988, he continued as The Maude and Lillian Presley Professor of Social Medicine and Psychiatry Emeritus (and actively serving - lecturing, researching and writing, and mentoring) in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine of the Harvard Medical School in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston until a few months before his death in 2009. He received both his BA and MD degrees from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, taught previously at both the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University, and was Chief of Psychiatry at both Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston during formative periods in psychiatry for each institution.

Manfred S. Guttmacher (1898–1966) was a forensic psychiatrist and chief medical officer at the Court Clinic for Baltimore City's Supreme Bench, who authored America's Last King: An Interpretation of the Madness of George III (establishing his reputation as a medical historian), and numerous other works.

Guttmacher was born in 1898 to a family of rabbis. Like his brother, Alan Frank Guttmacher, his A.B. and M.D. degrees were earned from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, after which Manfred served as an intern at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, then as a resident house officer in medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. After two years an Emmanuel Libman fellow studying neurology, psychiatry, and criminology overseas, he relocated to Boston for psychiatric training at the Boston Psychopathic Hospital.

He was appointed chief medical adviser to the Supreme Bench of Baltimore in 1930, where he served with distinction until his 1966 death. In 1933, he published his first paper, “Psychiatry and the Adult Delinquent” in the National Probation Association Yearbook of 1933 (on forensic psychiatry).
