Clutch

Clutch is one of the essential components in automobiles. It is located between the engine and the gear box. The main function of the clutch is to initiate the motion or increase the velocity of the vehicle by transferring kinetic energy from the flywheel. The present paper deals with the designing and analysis of friction clutch plate. Design has done by using CATIA V5 software and static structural analysis carried by using ANSYS. Finally the plots for equivalent stress, strains and total deformation were obtained for different friction materials for friction clutch plat, Uniform wear theory were used for the analysis.

This paper deals with an audible disturbance known as automotive clutch squeal noise from the viewpoint of friction-induced mode coupling instability. Firstly, an auto-coupling model is presented showing a non-conservative circulatory effect originating from friction forces.Secondly, the stability of an equilibrium is investigated by determining the eigenvalues of the system linearized equations. The effects of the circulatory and gyroscopic actions are examined analytically and numerically to determine their influence on the stability region. Separate and combined effects are analyzed with and without structural damping and important information is obtained on the role of each parameter and their interactions regarding overall stability. Not only is structural damping shown to be of primary importance, as reported in many previous works, this article also highlights a particular relationship with gyroscopic effects.A method of optimizing both the stability range and its robustness with respect to uncertainty on system parameters is discussed after which practical design recommendations are given.

Critical components of a rotating machinery such as bearings and couplings are often subjected to unbalanced axial and radial loads due to excessive machine vibrations arising from shaft misalignment(s). The paper presents Symbolic Time Series Analysis (STSA) of bearing acceleration data for detection and estimation of gradually developing parametric changes in flexible disc/diaphragm couplings. The analytical method is built upon the principles of Symbolic Dynamics, Automata Theory, and Statistical Pattern Recognition. The anomaly detection methodology is validated on a real-time simulation test bed, where the dynamic model of a flexible mechanical coupling is subjected to angular misalignment(s) leading to coupling failure. Damage patterns are identified from STSA of multiple data sets generated for different input torques. Statistical estimates are obtained for small changes in the coupling stiffness based on the information derived from the ensemble of damage patterns.

This study aims at clarifying the phenomenological roots of an acoustical disturbance known as “clutch squeal noise”. A nonlinear two-degrees-of-freedom model is introduced in order to illustrate some basic phenomena leading to self-generated vibrations. The damping of the system as well as both circulatory and gyroscopic actions are included in order to highlight their respective influence and the destabilization paradox. Results are obtained on the stability range of the equilibrium, the nature of the Hopf bifurcation, the limit cycle branches and their stability. A dynamic extension of the destabilization paradox is proposed and some non-periodic behaviours are identified too.

The CY 80 clutch basket is a bowl-shaped gear- driven housing bolted onto the end of the clutch shaft and functions as the cover for clutch components assembly. The functional requirement of this part requires high strength and wear resistance characteristics. This research work focuses on the design and development of permanent mould for the production of CY 80 clutch basket using 7075 Aluminum alloy. The CY 80 clutch basket was designed using Creo Element software and manufactured by gravitational casting process using a crucible furnace. Virtual simulation of the produced component shows that the design is safe. Material analysis and further test performed by running Cy80 motorcycle engine that is coupled with the clutch basket shows that the manufactured CY 80 clutch basket performs its intended function.
