Ми всі вийшли з села, але з нас не вийшло село. „The city” versus „the village” in the battle for the form of the Ukrainian identity. The aim of the article is to show the contradicting ideas concerning the contemporary character of the Ukrainian national-cultural identity, as well as to demonstrate what changes different communities of the Ukrainian artistic elite consider necessary. Moreover, the author of the article suggests that the area of reflection on the attitudes towards the values of the rural culture becomes a place where differences between these two ideas about the Ukrainian identity crash. An important part of the contemporary (1991-2013) reflection on the (re)defining of the fundamental determinants of the collective self-identification of Ukrainians in the Ukrainian mass media (print and online press, television programs) is a confrontation of “rustic” and “urban” projects of national identity. The author analyses statements criticizing the “pro-rural” inclinations of contemporary Ukrainians, as well as these presenting the rural world as a necessary element of the Ukrainian national-cultural identity. The author of the article argues that the development of this rural-urban opposition is one of the main issues in the contemporary debate not only on the national question, but also on the new face of art in Ukraine. Celem tego artykułu jest zaprezentowanie stanowisk przedstawicieli różnych środowisk ukraińskiej elity intelektualnej wobec procesów globalizacji oraz osadzenie w tej problematyce zagadnień kultury masowej i folkloryzmu muzycznego. Niezwykle interesującą część prezentowanych na łamach ukraińskiej prasy rozważań na temat złożonych relacji globalizacja – kultura masowa – kultura narodowa stanowi tematyka transformacji rodzimych tradycji kulturowych, głównie folkloru, w nowych warunkach. Artykuł stawia tezę, że twórczość sięgająca do ludowych źródeł, wpisuje się zarówno w nurt sztuki masowej, jak i w działania kontestujące kulturę dominującą, nobilituje wartości lokalne, ale korzysta przy tym z globalnych wzorców – i w takim wymiarze może stanowić wzorotwórcze odniesienie dla idei glokalizmu. Propozycje ukraińskich intelektualistów budujące różne strategie wobec procesów globalizacji uzupełniają poszukiwania twórców, które poprzez sięganie do tradycji ludowej próbują zrealizować swoje wyobrażenia o rozwoju lokalnej, rodzimej kultury w kontekście globalnym.
