The existence of diagnostic features in the visible and infrared regions makes it possible to use reflectance spectra not only to identify mineral assemblages but also for calibration and classification of satellite images, considering lithological and/or mineral mapping. For this purpose, a consistent spectral library with the target spectra of minerals and rocks is needed. Currently, there is big market pressure for raw materials including lithium (Li) that has driven new satellite image applications for Li exploration. However, there are no reference spectra for petalite (a Li mineral) in large, open spectral datasets. In this work, a spectral library was built exclusively dedicated to Li minerals and Li pegmatite exploration through satellite remote sensing. The database includes field and laboratory spectra collected in the Fregeneda–Almendra region (Spain–Portugal) from (i) distinct Li minerals (spodumene, petalite, lepidolite); (ii) several Li pegmatites and other outcropping...

This paper deals with Faculty Performance Assessment from student perspective using Statistical Analysis and Mining techniques.Performance of a faculty depends on a number of parameters (77 parameters as identified) and the performance assessment of a faculty/faculties are broadly carried out by the Management Body, the Student Community,Self and Peer faculties of the organization. The parameters act as performance indicators for an individual and group and subsequently can impact on the decision making of the stakeholders. The idea proposed in this research is to perform an analysis of faculty performance considering student feedback which can directly or indirectly impact management’s decision, teaching standards and norms set by the educational institute, understand certain patterns of faculty motivation, satisfaction, growth and decline in future. The analysis depends on many factors, encompassing student’s feedback, organizational feedback, institutional support in terms of finan...

Previous qualitative studies show that when the formal organization of a school and patterns of informal interaction are aligned, faculty and leaders in a school are better able to coordinate instructional change. This article combines social network analysis with interview data to analyze how well the formal and informal aspects of a school’s social context are aligned. The focus is on two elementary schools engaged in initiatives aimed to use data to inform instructional decision making. The multimethod case study integrated findings from questionnaire and interview data. Data were collected over two years from case study schools. By fitting multilevel social selection models to longitudinal social network data collected from surveys, the authors estimated the relative influence of formal and informal processes on patterns of advice giving in each school. They used interview data to contextualize and corroborate findings. The social selection models they fit revealed distinct patt...

The Association of American Medical Colleges has encouraged educators to investigate proper linkage of simulation experiences with medical curricula. The authors aimed to determine if student knowledge and satisfaction differ between participation in web-based and manikin simulations for learning shock physiology and treatment and to determine if a specific training sequencing had a differential effect on learning. All 40 second-year medical students participated in a randomized, counterbalanced study with two interventions: group 1 ( n = 20) participated in a web-based simulation followed by a manikin simulation and group 2 ( n = 20) participated in reverse order. Knowledge and attitudes were documented. Mixed-model ANOVA indicated a significant main effect of time ( F1,38 = 18.6, P < 0.001, ηp2 = 0.33). Group 1 scored significantly higher on quiz 2 (81.5%) than on quiz 1 (74.3%, t19 = 3.9, P = 0.001), for an observed difference of 7.2% (95% confidence interval: 3.3, 11.0). Mean...

India is the world’s most populous country, yet also one of the least urban. It has long been known that India’s official estimates of urban percentages conflict with estimates derived from alternative conceptions of urbanization. To date, however, the detailed spatial and settlement boundary data needed to analyze and reconcile these differences have not been available. This paper presents gridded estimates of population at a resolution of 1 km along with two spatial renderings of urban areas—one based on the official tabulations of population and settlement types (i.e., statutory towns, outgrowths, and census towns) and the other on remotely-sensed measures of built-up land derived from the Global Human Settlement Layer. We also cross-classified the census data and the remotely-sensed data to construct a hybrid representation of the continuum of urban settlement. In their spatial detail, these materials go well beyond what has previously been available in the public domain, and th...

Introduction This paper examines problems school-level staff encounter when attempting to implement data-based decision-making reform efforts, specifically those focused on teaching and learning in the classroom. The paper also offers recommendations for professional development that address gaps in traditional principal and teacher training. Many schools and districts are exploring data-driven decision making as a solution for improving resource allocation and instructional program decisions. One of the most challenging problems policy makers and educators face in attempting to implement curriculum reforms is that intervent...

Biodiesel, as an alternative fuel, is gradually receiving more popularity for use in internal combustion engines. However questions continue to arise with regard to its compatibility with elastomeric materials. The present work aims to investigate the comparative degradation of physical properties for different elastomers [e.g. ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), silicone rubber (SR), polychloroprene (CR), polytetrafluroethylene (PTFE) and nitrile rubber (NBR)] upon exposure to diesel and palm biodiesel. Static immersion tests in B0(diesel), B10 (10% biodiesel in diesel), B20, B50 and B100(biodiesel) were carried out at room temperature (25 °C) for 1000 h. Different physical properties like, changes in weight and volume, hardness and tensile strength were measured at every 250 h of immersion time. Compositional changes in biodiesel due to exposure of different elastomers were investigated by Gas chromatography mass spectroscopy (GCMS). The overall sequence of compatible elastomers in palm biodiesel is found to be PTFE > SR > NBR > EPDM > CR.

The expectation that educators will use data in the service of school improvement and planning is a major feature of national and local reform agendas. Prior research has found that the principal plays a critical role in making policymakers’ visions for data use a reality at the school and classroom levels. Most prior studies, however, have not fleshed out how the principal functions as a key agent in influencing other key players in data use. This article will illustrate the actions of the principal, teachers, students, and district personnel through simulation models of principal leadership that we developed based on a case study of a high school implementing this reform. We use these models both as a framework for understanding our findings and as a way to enhance understanding of the processes by which educational reform is co-constructed through the simultaneous mediation of the multiple agents involved in the system.

Data is available in every corners life. The data keeps on increasing by the usage of smart phones, our Interaction with social networks and much more. The largely generated data can be effectively utilized by means of data mining and machine learning concepts. Machine learning is an integral part of artificial intelligence, which is used to design algorithms based on the data trends and historical relationships between data. Machine learning is used in various fields such as bioinformatics, intrusion detection, Information retrieval, game playing, marketing and so on. This paper describes the step by step method adopted for data preparation and the concepts applied for feature engineering in Machine learning using an familiarized Rossman sales data set.

Over the past decade, Web 2.0 has brought a wealth of opportunities for improving marketing effectiveness; social media platforms, in particular, have proven to be exceptional tools for realizing growth potential. The big question for businesses used to be how to measure and report financial return on investment (ROI) for social media ad spend to show that it is impactful as a marketing media tool. The focus has now shifted to how much traditional media spend should be reallocated to social or online media. The current paper is a Social Media case study of a large MBA program which has developed and implemented a comprehensive Social Media program with a focus on two ROI issues - financial Return on Investment and Reallocation of Investment. Social media plan development and implementation, integrated marketing/sales funnel development, and social media platform ROI results are discussed and evaluated. Lessons learned and next steps are also posited.
