This monograph focuses on one of the most interesting sections of the Main Forum of Ostia Antica, the ancient commercial port of Rome, during the 2nd-6th centuries AD. With a detailed 3D reconstruction of all collected information, it is possible to gain detailed insights into the development and destruction of the city centre during the transition from Antiquity to the Early Middle Ages. The applied 3D volume map in this study makes this possible by combining 2D, 2.5D and 3D solid objects inside a real geo-space. It completes the 3D space, generally filled with hollow objects, with content. With this work, Undine Lieberwirth gives archaeologists a free and open ready-to-use tool. The resulting space-time model of archaeological stratigraphy, geophysics and pedology opens new perspectives on 3D documentation and 3D analysis of archaeological and archaeology-related data. Her intention is not only to preserve archaeological excavation data in the best way possible but also to prepare them for future 3D and 4D analysis. The digital 3D cartography offers the perfect framework for this. To represent these 3D models appropriately, the usual 2D images in this monograph are replaced with 8 videos.

Following the implementation of the Virtual Multimodal Museum (ViMM) project, which finished in March 2019, the European Commission issued a Declaration on Cooperation on Advancing Digitisation of Cultural Heritage during the Digital Day in April 2019. One year later, in April 2020, the European Commission (EC) launched a commercial call for tenders to develop a Study on quality in 3D digitisation of tangible cultural heritage (the study). The tender theme is to acknowledge the increasing demand for internationally recognised standards for the holistic 3D documentation of Europe's rich cultural heritage (CH) and address the lack of standards. The study aims to map parameters, formats, standards, benchmarks, methodologies, and guidelines relating to 3D digitisation of tangible cultural heritage, the different potential purposes or uses, by type of tangible cultural heritage, and the degree of complexity of tangible cultural heritage. A team of researchers at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) leads a consortium of partners from industry and academia across Europe to conduct this unique study. This work in progress paper introduces the research's objectives and methodology and presents some of its first results.

Representation of architectural heritage artefacts with minimum risks to their authenticity has been advised by heritage guidelines; their transport for representation maximises the risk of destruction and questions the authenticity. Contemporary curators turn to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Mixed Reality for an improved representation but there are challenges related to audience accessibility, costs of asset transport to and lifecycle management with the museum platforms, and the potential threats to authenticity.
Digital Twin (DT) as a revolutionary concept opens new doors to mitigate the challenges and may facilitate better access to the architectural heritage through digital experiences. In the long term, DT implementation costs may be offset by enabling wider access. This article presents the DT concept, the necessity of its adoption, the challenges of Digital Twining, benefits and opportunities, and reviews available curation practices of 'digital asset' production.
The core contribution of this article is the comparative studies on two acquisition methods with two data streams presented as case studies. The two techniques, which engage hand recording and digital recording are detailed and compared in terms of construction time, tool requirements, representability, and the interoperability as well as extensibility of the models. This research is significant in two ways: 1) by presenting the analytic framework for adapting DT assets to the complex platforms in museums, and 2) by explicating the curatorial challenges for heritage assets including accessibility, implementation time, authenticity, and reliability of the 3D-documented models.

The research activity aims to evaluate the Mobile Laser Scanner mapping system's effectiveness and critical issues based on simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) called KAARTA Stencil. The research introduces a reflection on a series of test datasets resulting from the mobile system's application in an urban context taken as a case study and aimed at the representation and 3D modeling of architectural complexes. In detail, the metric accuracy of the proposed method was evaluated through a comparative analysis of the point cloud data through the evaluation of the surface deviation of the 3D point clouds based on the SLAM system and the data of static measurement systems, more precise to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed acquisition system. For each data were specified the possibilities of representation, the type of representation scale, and the possible manipulations and extractions of 2D profiles to design and analyze architectural elements through mobile systems. The analysis involves a breakdown of the problem of representation, identifying protocols that can be applicable at different levels and scales of reading aimed at the representation and discretization of parts and elements linked together in a hierarchical or interconnected relationship, outlining their criticality and potential. 1.
