Prezentowana książka poświęcona jest myśli politycznej Solidarności Walczącej. Dzieli się ona na dwie części. Część "Wokół myśli politycznej Solidarności Walczącej" składa się z rozdziałów prezentujących republikańskie inspiracje obecne w programie Solidarności Walczącej, koncepcje polityki zagranicznej SW oraz stosunek SW do transformacji ustrojowej. W kolejnych trzech rozdziałach książki podjęto analizę zawartości treściowej wybranych czasopism SW: „Biuletynu Dolnośląskiego”, „Wolni i Solidarni” oraz „Solidarność Zwycięży”/”Solidarność Walcząca”. W części "Myśl polityczna Solidarności Walczącej w dokumentach i wspomnieniach" opublikowano wywiady z członkami Komitetu Wykonawczego SW, Andrzejem Mycem i Andrzejem Zarachem oraz dokumenty programowe SW.

The approach of Security Service officers towards surveillance of the second circulation was constantly evolving. This process is difficult to capture (mainly due to the lack of source materials), but it is noticeable. It seems that during the “carnival of »Solidarity«”, when attempts were made at taking control of the rapidly growing phenomenon with less repressive means, the Security Service focused on securing sources of information within various publishing initiatives. After 13 December 1981, the means changed to very repressive, intent on the destruction of the publishing underground. In 1986, when the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs realised that they would not be able to eliminate the independent publishing movement, they changed the policy applied towards it to a more flexible one. Repressions became more focused, ost often imposing fines rather than custodial sentences. However, the “illegal” publishing business was constantly growing – it could not even be stopped by the successes of the intelligence of the People’ s Republic of Poland in taking-over foreign cargoes containing printing equipment.

Autorzy artykułów umieszczonych w części "Ogólnopolskie portrety Solidarności" dyskutują problemy i zagadnienia, które winny być przemyślane w konstrukcji syntetycznego ujęcia Solidarności. Do nich należą kwestie interpretacji solidarnościowej myśli i praktyki politycznej, międzynarodowe oddziaływanie ruchu związkowe czy miejsce Solidarności w pamięci historycznej. Artykuły zgromadzone w części "Wielkopolskie portrety Solidarności" przedstawiają lokalne i regionalne aspekty działalności Związku: aktywność zakładowych struktur związku, dyskusji nad ich kształtem oraz portrety regionalnych działaczy związkowych (np. Franciszka Langnera, Eligiusza Naszkowskiego, Karola Smoczkiewicza, czy Bogusława Śliwy) i kapelanów Solidarności (ks. Antoni Lassy).

Censorship and its counterpart, the `underground' production and distribution of printed texts and images, existed ever since a `public sphere' came into being. The volume approaches this phenomenon by covering cases from the Tsarist Empire, the Soviet Union, Central Europe, South America and China. In a long-term as well as global perspective, the well-known practise of samizdat under communist rule may be understood as part of a long tradition of underground publishing still relevant today in places like Russia, Iran, or China.

Artykuł jest próbą zwrócenia uwagi na kwestię kiczowości w wydanej w 1984 roku w tzw. drugim obiegu powieści Tadeusza Konwickiego "Rzeka podziemna, podziemne ptaki." Podejmowane już wcześniej przez autora Małej Apokalipsy zagadnienie „gry z kiczem” dotyczy tu problemu kiczu patriotycznego czy też narodowego i stanowi jeden z głównych tematów tego stosunkowo rzadko analizowanego przez krytykę tekstu. Autorka wykazuje, iż "Rzeka podziemna…" stanowi nie tylko krytyczne spojrzenie autora "Bohini" na współczesną mu literaturę, ale także na sam czas schyłku PRL z jego „potencjałem kiczowości” oraz kontynuuje refleksję Konwickiego dotyczącą problemu polskości i polskiej spuścizny narodowej, której początki widać już we wcześniejszej powieści tego autora zatytułowanej "Kompleks polski."

CRITICAL EXPERIENCES OF THE 80's: JERZY MALEWSKI AND TADEUSZ KOMENDANT
The author reviews two literary criticism book from the 80's, which were published outside of the government-sanctioned censorship: "Widziałem wolność w Warszawie" of Jerzy Malewski (kickname of Włodzimierz Bolecki) and "Zostaje kantyczka" by Tadeusz Komendant. He finds in them two totally different views on literary and public discourse, which stem from and recall the same source experience. Malewski writes about discourse, which sanctions the experience of the common ground between the postion and value. Komendant describes the experience of difference, the "positional aspect of truth" and literature as a "linguistic gesture'. Instead of sharing the common ground, Komendant advocates the participation in a varied social practice and taking responsibility for its shape and direction. The difference between the positions of these two critics heralds characteristic for the Polish public scene of the 90's split into 'communionistic' and 'liberal' factions. During that period both Bolecki and Komendant participated in the controversial dispute about postmodernism in Poland, regarding it as non-existent problem, one that does not reflect Polish historical experiences, and as a mere linguistic proposition, which may be useful potentially to express those experiences.
