This communication is based on a study about the possibility of an influence of the body language in the performing arts upon Titian´s mythological representations. The questioning is justifieble because the figuration of the mythologies for the Cabinet of Alabaster, done by Titian from 1518 to 1524, presents very different features from both his previous paintings and the mythologies painted by other artists for the Este family. The question seems convenient because the paintings for the Cabinet were the Titian’s first contact, both with mythological themes, and with the literary descriptions of images. For this reason, this work proposes as a possibility that the more realistic and theatrical conception of the movements and affections percieved in the paintings might have been inspired by the observation of plays, dances and others spectacles, both in Venice and in Ferrara which, by putting before Titian the gestual and corporeal references in real action, would have complemented the iconographic references provided by the artworks inspred in classical antiquity, as sculptures and reliefs, both in the collection of Alfonso, and those known by Titian through engravings.

L'antologia prende in considerazione le corti padane che, nella seconda metà del XV secolo, affi dano alle pratiche celebrative e alle feste un ruolo centrale della propria politica culturale (Mantova, Ferrara e Milano). Il teatro spicca in queste realtà per la riscoperta dell'antico mediata da istanze di legittimazione ed encomio del princeps, per la forte connotazione ideologica, per il largo canone di autori e di fonti eterogenee seguite. Perciò i testi drammaturgici possiedono un carattere sperimentale, sono attraversati da soluzioni eclettiche e sincretiche, puntano a innovazioni ardite, a combinazioni polimorfe difficilmente schematizzabili. La panoramica complessiva offerta dal volume permette di delineare una storia del teatro quattrocentesco contraddistinta da reciproche influenze letterarie e da rapporti di tensione polemica e agonistico-competitiva tra gli autori. L'ampia selezione antologica che comprende diciannove testi, alcuni dei quali inediti e poco noti dà conto di tali dinamiche complesse e affascinanti e presenta al lettore diverse opere da accogliere a pieno titolo tra i prodotti più rilevanti della civiltà letteraria del Quattrocento (es. la Fabula de Orpheo, il Cefalo, la Pasitea, il Timone boiardesco). Il volume è corredato altresì dall'introduzione firmata da Alberto Bentoglio, da una cronologia che illustra le principali vicende storiche che dal 1478 al 1508 interessarono le corti padane e dai profili biografici di tutti gli autori proposti.

Several music theorists at the end of the fifteenth century and early sixteenth century had different attitudes to enigmatic canons. Few canons by theorists survive, but their discussions of known (and sometimes lost) works are revealing. Florentius de Faxolis, in his treatise dedicated to Cardinal Ascanio Sforza and completed before August 1492, lists twelve categories of enigmatic canons, but without naming a single piece. Likely candidates have been found for most. One type appears to explain a melody derived from a text, i.e. a soggetto cavato. Before 1492 the only plausible candidates are Josquin’s Missa Hercules dux Ferrariae and his Missa La sol fa re mi. It is argued that the former is more likely, and that it does not date from Josquin’s service in Ferrara, but may have been written in October 1486 as a gift from Ascanio Sforza, who at that point was having an unnamed composer finish a mass to be sent to Ercole.

Il "nuovo" Teatro Comunale di Modena - ora intitolato al celeberrimo tenore modenese Luciano Pavarotti - inaugurato il 2 ottobre 1841, accoglie un capolavoro di Adeodato Malatesta (1806-1891), il noto pittore da poco divenuto direttore dell'Accademia di Belle Arti di Modena: il sipario raffigurante Ercole d'Este che visita il teatro fatto erigere in Ferrara nel 1486, tuttora utilizzato. Perduto invece il sipario "di comodo" dipinto da un altro maestro dell'Ottocento romantico, Luigi Manzini.
