Investigation and evaluation of historical object's properties and their components with respect to structural, technical and pathological point of view through nondestructive testing (NDT), is one of the most important research field in archaeometry. In this paper, the qualitative and quantitative result of chemical composition of glaze (case study: multicolored tile, probably from Safavied era) is presented through X-ray microprobe analysis (XPMA) and without sampling. Results of this analysis demonstrate the possibility of recognition of major, minor and trace elements in glaze and their amounts, through fast, nondestructive, accurate and facile method. The data obtained from this analysis point to that these glazes can classified in lead glaze group and calcium oxide has flux role in the composition. Colorants such as turquoise blue (copper oxide), yellow (with the presence of iron oxide in the vicinity of calcium oxide) and bright green (chromium oxide), indicate that firing atmosphere of glaze was oxidation environment. Also, characterization of mineralogical and chemical composition of this sample was carried out through elemental, phases and thermal analysis (XRF, XRD, and STA) and petrography. The results indicate that firing temperature of tile body has been 800 – 850℃ in oxidation condition.

Résumé Depuis plusieurs années, des études ont démontré que les événements stressants pendant la grossesse affectent le niveau de développement neurologique, de même que le fonctionnement cognitif et psychologique ultérieurs de l'enfant. Résumé Du 5 au 9 janvier 1998, le Québec a connu un sinistre naturel, une tempête de verglas, qui a perturbé la vie quotidienne de millions de personnes. Le verglas accumulé sur les fils et les installations électriques a provoqué un effondrement d'une partie du réseau d'électricité et des millions de personnes se sont retrouvées sans électricité pour des périodes s'échelonnant jusqu'à un mois. Ces événements ont donc contraint un grand nombre de personnes à réorganiser leurs habitudes de vie dans les zones les plus peuplées du Québec. Plusieurs éléments font de cette tempête un sinistre différent des autres. C'est dans ce contexte particulier qu'il faut interpréter les résultats des enquêtes qui ont été réalisées pour le compte de la Commission chargée par le Gouvernement du Québec d'étudier les conséquences de la tempête. There are many approaches to modifying a glaze recipe, and different approaches can meet different needs. Some modifications change the colorant level while others change the colorant type altogether. Some may directly replace one material with another add a few weight unit more (or less) of one of the base ingredients in the recipe, or add an amount of an entirely new ingredient. These strategies we use to alter glazes tent to parallel how we cook and modify recipes in the kitchen, but adjustments to the base glaze using the kitchen method do not always give us the results we want. The present study focuses on the recycling of marble waste, generated by the marble industry for producing transparent stoneware glazes. The marble waste came from a marble-cutting plant located in Afyon-Iscehisar, Turkey. Ceramic stoneware glazes containing up to 40 wt% waste were prepared. The stabilized glaze slurries were applied onto stoneware tiles, which were sintered at 1000 °C. Five different glaze mixtures containing marble waste were prepared and evaluated for firing color, water emission, and thermal behavior. Microstructural evolution was carried out by scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that the marble waste can be used in transparent stoneware glaze production, resulting in a new possibility for recycling this waste and conserving natural resources. After 20 wt% waste addition, development of opaque glaze surface texture occurred because of high calcium oxide incorporation to the system.
