סיפורה של חסידות קרלין, אחת החסידויות הראשונות, הוא מן המרתקים בתולדות החסידות. חסידות זו שמה דגש על עבודת ה' ברגש ובגוף, על האמת, על הענווה ועל התנגדות ליומרנות אינטלקטואלית. היא הייתה הראשונה שהעמידה בראשה 'ינוקא', בן של צדיק בעודנו ילד, ואף חזרה על תקדים זה כעבור כמה דורות. היא עודדה עלייה לארץ ישראל שנים לפני הציונות ואף תמכה בהגירה ממזרח אירופה לאמריקה זמן רב לפני מלחמת העולם  שנייה, בניגוד לעמדתם של רוב רבני התקופה. משפחת אדמו"ריה כמעט שנכחדה בשואה, אך היא הצליחה להמשיך ולהתקיים ושרדה התפלגויות ומתחים. צאצאים של חסידי קרלין נטלו ונוטלים חלק פעיל בצדדים מגוונים של חיי  יישוב והמדינה, והיא עצמה, על ארבעת פלגיה, ממשיכה לקיים חיי דת תוססים בישראל ובעולם.
כספינה מיטלטלת: חסידות קרלין בין עליות למשברים הוא מחקר רחב יריעה ראשון על חסידות זו. אף שהאדמו"רים עומדים במרכז הדיון, הספר מאיר גם את דמויותיהן של הנפשות הפועלות מסביבם: נשותיהם, בני משפחתם,  פעילים והעסקנים. הספר משלב עיון מחקרי ותיאור סיפורי ומציג ניתוח מעמיק של אמונות וערכים לצד התנהגויות אנושיות, אישיות וחברתיות. עלילתה של חסידות קרלין ראשיתה במאה השמונה עשרה ואחריתה בימינו אלה, תחילת המאה העשרים ואחת.

In the Mishneh Torah, the great physician, philosopher, codifier, and commentator Moses Maimonides guarantees that a person who follows his guidelines for healthy eating and other behaviors will never need a doctor. On what basis can he speak with such certainty in the Mishneh Torah, while being far more cautious in his extensive medical writings? I suggest that here, his prescriptions concern not only what and how we eat, but why we eat—for what purpose. Maimonides introduces the Mishneh Torah with the statement that the purpose of all life is to know G-d. Following Maimonides’ practical guidelines in the context of striving to know G-d in our every action will enrich and lengthen our lives. But how can a finite human mind know an infinite G-d? Correlating Maimonides’ characterization of G-d as “the Knower, the Knowledge, and the Known” with three levels of Da'ạt, and correspondingly with three stages of Hasidic meditation, helps us answer these questions.

Tracing the history of Hassidism in Hungary, provides the background of this surprising statement made by he Galician Zaddik, R Haim Halberstamm of Sanz. It reveals the rivalry in mid-19th century between Hassidim and Mitnagdim (Orthodox "Ashkenazim"), between Galicia and Hungary, over the superiority of their institutions, especially their assessment of the value of the yeshiva which flourished in Hungary, but was absent in Galicia. With an appendix: two letters of leading rabbis of the opposing camps.

Abstact
Rabbi Naftali Zvi Yehudah Berlin (Ha-Neziv) wrote commentaries on parts of the Bible, rabbinic literature and Geonic literature, and these writings include material which reflects a comprehensive philosophic Weltanschauung. This paper accordingly analyzes R. Berlin’s views about naziritehood, asceticism and supererogatory conduct in light of relevant material teachings from his prolific writings, and it attempts to determine what he considered to be proper conduct for the general public, as well as for those individuals who wish to adopt a more stringent approach. The article considers the sources and aims of R. Berlin’s views, and the connection between them and other, contemporary viewpoints, most notably in the Hasidic movement.

הנצי"ב כתב חיבורים פרשניים למקרא, לספרות חז"ל והגאונים, ושיקע בפירושיו רעיונות הגותיים העולים לכדי משנה רעיונית שלמה. מחקר זה מבקש לחלץ מכתביו השונים את השקפתו ביחס לנזירות ולפרישות ולמידת חסידות (סופרארוגנציה), ולברר מהי דרך ההנהגה הדתית הראויה-בעיניו לכלל הציבור וליחידים המבקשים לקבל על עצמם הנהגה אישית קיצונית יותר.
המחקר מבקש לבחון מהם מקורות תפיסתו, מהן מגמותיה ומהי הזיקה בינה ובין תפיסות דתיות אחרות בנות-זמנו ומקומו, ובפרט תנועת החסידות.
