Marine cross-border areas are ideal for monitoring pollutants so as to increase ecosystems protection. This study was conducted at the Romanian-Ukraine border of the Black Sea to reveal evidence of contamination with toxic metals based on biomonitoring of: cadmium, lead, total chromium, nickel and copper at different water depths and prey-predator interactions, combined with environmental forensics techniques of biological sampling and separation in witnesses size groups. The species used were Mytilus galloprovincialis L. and Rapana venosa V. collected at 17.5m, 28m and 35m depth. Assesing the influence of the leaf extract to histopathological on hepatopancreas of shrimp as protection from Vibrio harveyi. Crude, ethyil acetate, and n-butanol fraction was given by dipping method. The best survival was the fraction of n-butanol 300 ppm, followed by n-butanol 200 ppm and 700 ppm etyl acetate fraction. It reduced the prevalence of attacks and improved the survival of shrimp. The influence of sinus and mandibular glands on the metabolism of the Ocypode macrocerawas studied. Carbohydrate content of heart, hepatopancreas, muscles and hemolymph of eyestalk extract injected crabs was significantly higher than that of control, ablated and cheliped injected crabs (P<0.05). Protein content of heart, gill, muscles and hemolymph of ablated crabs was also significantly higher than that of control, eyestalk extracted injected and cheliped injected crabs (P<0.05). The result showed that the lipid content in the hepotopancreas (2.46 mg/g) and ovary (3.24 mg/g) of ablated animals was significantly higher when compared to control, eyestalk extract injected and cheliped injected crabs. Selenoneine, 2-selenyl-Nα, Nα, Nα-trimethyl-L-histidine, is the major organic selenium compound in marine fish. To characterize biological antioxidant function of selenoneine in fish, the accumulation of selenoneine and other selenium compounds, i. e., sodium selenite and selenomethionine, in the muscle and other tissues of red seabream. We reared red seabream by feeding of 1% dry pellet containing of sodium selenite, selenomethionine, or selenoneine of body weight twice a day for 4 weeks. After that, we replaced to 1% of normal commercial dry pellet of body weight twice a day for 1 week from the selenium supplementation, and tissue distribution of total selenium was determined. This paper describes the first systematic monitoring conducted in 2002 at shrimp farms in Sinaloa and Sonora (Mexico) for the presumptive and confirmative diagnosis of necrotizing hepatopancreatitis bacterium (NHPB) in Litopenaeus vannamei. Light microscopy (wet mounts and hematoxilin-eosin-stained sections of hepatopancreas) showed atrophy of the hepatopancreas, strangulation and necrosis of the hepatopancreatic tubules, with masses of NHPB within the tubular epithelium, hemocytic infiltrates and tubular melanization. The gene encoding the 16S rRNA (16S rDNA) of NHPB was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from clinical specimens and the bacteria isolated using Percoll density gradient centrifugation. A 12-day experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of Artemia enrichment with two experimental microalgal emulsions (formulated with selected fatty acid contents) on Penaeus vannamei postlarvae. For this purpose, 405,000 postlarvae (stage 1) were obtained from a commercial hatchery in Santa Elena, Ecuador, and distributed into nine fiberglass tanks. Postlarvae were fed for 12 days with three experimental diets (three tanks per treatment): treatment A (Artemia enriched with experimental microalgal emulsion A and dry diet), treatment B (Artemia enriched with experimental microalgal emulsion B and dry diet) and nonenriched Artemia (Artemia without enrichment and dry diet). Slow growth rate tends to be a challenge in the cultivation of spiny lobster (P. homarus) because it impact on long rearing periods and high operational costs, especially for feeds. Short-term starvation or fasting has known to allow the minimum feed usage without inhibiting biota growth, also improves digestive function, reduces the amount of water-soluble nutrient metabolites, and reduces operational costs. Spiny lobster (P. homarus) measuring 50.0 ± 10.0 g was reared for 6 weeks in floating net cages. The presence of a xenobiotic in the environment can often represent a risk for living organisms. Quaternium-15, a preservative, is one of the most used substances and is added to several cosmetics and other industrial products. For this reason,kwowing the bio-indicator of the marine environment, the toxicological effects potentially elicited by this preservative on the marine invertebrate Mytilus galloprovincialis were studied. The results of this work confirm that quaternium-15, used at 0.1 and 1mg/l concentrations, while metabolized in M. galloprovincialis, causes a decrease in cellular viability, and remarkable changes to the defense and antioxidant system. This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of combined black cumin (BC) and grape seed (GS) powder at different rates (0%, 1%, 2%, and 4%, respectively) on growth performance and hepatopancreas histology of third instar Turkish narrow-clawed crayfish (Pontastacus leptodactylus). A total of 180 third instar of crayfish with an initial mean weight of (0.06 g ±0.01 g) and mean length (11.0 mm ±0.01) were randomly assigned to four treatment groups with three replications in each group and at a density of 15 crayfish per replicate. Crayfish were fed an experimental diet rate of at 10% of total body weight for 84 days. PirAB is a binary protein complex secreted by specific strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus (Vp) that harbor the pVA1 virulence plasmid and express PirAVp and PirBVp toxins. PirABVp causes acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), a newly emergent penaeid shrimp disease that can cause 70–100% mortality and has resulted in great economic losses since its appearance. The cy-totoxic effect of PirABVp on the epithelial cell of the shrimp hepatopancreas has been extensively reported. Our studies found that the PirBVp subunit has lectin activity and recognizes mucin-like O-glycosidic structures in the shrimp hepatopancreas. Vibrio parahaemolyticusstrains have been identified as the causative agent of acute hepatopancreas necrosis disease (VpAHPND+) in shrimp. In the present work, a highly virulent (M0904) and less virulent (M0607) strain ofVpAHPND+ were used in experimental infections ofPenaeus vannamei. Throughout the experiment, histopathological analyses were conducted on shrimp tissues, and samples from the bottom (B) and water column (WC) of each aquarium were taken to estimate bacterial growth. The first deaths of shrimp challenged withVpM0904 occurred 4 h post-infection (hpi), reached 50% mortality at 17 hpi, and showed more acute pathological progression associated with AHPND despite both strains having similar bacterial densities from 0-4 hpi. Moribund shrimp affected by acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) from farms in northwestern Mexico were sampled for bacteriological and histological analysis. Bacterial isolates were molecularly identified as Vibrio parahaemolyticus by the presence of the tlh gene. The tdh -negative, trh -negative, and tlh -positive V. parahaemolyticus strains were further characterized by repetitive extragenic palindromic element-PCR (rep-PCR), and primers AP1, AP2, AP3, and AP and an ems2 IQ2000 detection kit (GeneReach, Taiwan) were used in the diagnostic tests for AHPND. Vibriosis is one of the most widespread infectious diseases of cultured shrimp in Mexico; as a result, the Research Centre for Food and Development (CIAD, for the Spanish wording) offers a diagnostic service to the shrimp farmers where they bring samples of diseased shrimp as judged by themselves. Hemolymph (HL) and hepatopancreas (HP) of diseased Litopenaeus vannamei were analyzed from five regions of Northwestern Mexico (from 2001 to 2006) in tiosulphate citrate bile sacharose (TCBS) agar; a total of 5912 shrimp were examined. The results showed a mean vibrios density of 6.45 × 103, SD = 6.90 × 104 CFU/mL for HL and 1.40 × 105, SD = 3.20 × 105 CFU/g for HP (n = 5912). HL samples had 12% (SD = 26%) of green colonies (GCs) in TCBS, and 23% (SD = 34%) of GCs in HP samples. Lobster (Homarus americanus) hepatopancreas is a complex, heterogeneous tissue composed of four epithelial cell types that individually contribute to the overall functional properties of digestion, absorption, secretion, and detoxification. Previous studies, using purified hepatopancreatic brush border membrane vesicles, have described the properties of an electrogenic, 2Na+/1H+ antiporter in this tissue that regulates the absorption and secretion of these cations. These studies were not able to localize this cation exchange phenomenon to specific epithelial cell types. SUMMARYCrustacean hepatopancreatic lysosomes are organelles of heavy metal sequestration and detoxification. Previous studies have shown that zinc uptake by lysosomal membrane vesicles (LMV) occurred by a vanadate- and thapsigargin-sensitive ATPase that was stimulated by a transmembrane proton gradient established by a co-localized V-ATPase associated with this organelle. In the present study, hepatopancreatic LMV from the American lobster Homarus americanus were prepared by standard centrifugation methods and 65Zn2+, 36Cl–, 35SO42– and 14C-oxalate2– were used to characterize the interactions between the metal and anions during vesicular detoxification events. SUMMARYThis study describes the membrane transport mechanisms used by lobster (Homarus americanus) hepatopancreatic epithelial lysosomes to accumulate and sequester heavy metals from the cytosol, and thereby aid in the regulation of these ions entering the animal from dietary constituents. The present investigation extends previous work describing lysosomal metal uptake by cation exchange with protons and suggests that a second, parallel, lysosomal transport process involving metal—thiol conjugates may work in conjunction with the cation antiporter to control cytoplasmic metal concentrations. This study aimed to describe the Macrobrachium rosenbergii hepatopancreas histomorphology. The hepatopancreas is constituted by a set of blind end tubules, divided into proximal, middle, and distal regions, with the epithelium formed by E, F, B, R, and M cells differently of other species. Measurements of the length and width of the tubules were 419.64+69.09µm and 117.42+16.99µm, respectively. The percentage of each cell type per region was: proximal region (40%B, 20%F, 6.7%M, 33.3%R), middle region (45.4%B, 18.2%F, 9.1%M, and 27.3%R) and distal region (36.4%E, 27.2%B, 18.2%F, 9.1%M, 9.1%R). The effect of biofloc (BFT) and clear water (CW) at low (ls) and high-water salinity (hs) in wild juveniles of Penaeus setiferus were evaluated. Four treatments were implemented: hsBFT, lsBFT, hsCW, and lsCW. After 45 days, final weight (FW), weight gain (WG), hepatosomatic index (HSI), and survival rate (SR) were evaluated. Antioxidant activity in muscle and hepatopancreas were measured: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione-S transferase (GST), lipid peroxidation (LPO), protein oxidation (PO). The FW and SR was low for lsCW (P < 0.05), whereas the WG and HSI was high in hsBFT and lsBFT (P < 0.05).
