Niniejszy numer jest poświęcony relacjom o innych ludobójstwach i ich związkami z reprezentacjami Holokaustu.

W tym numerze zachęcaliśmy Autorów do dogłębnej refleksji nad tematem, asymilacji mniej znanych podejść w rodzimym kontekście i wypracowania własnych propozycji. Szczególnie interesuje nas refleksja nad metodologią opisową i odpowiedź na pytanie, czy badania powinny być osadzone w postkolonializmie i komparatystyce, czy raczej należy odrzucić wszelkie porównania i uznać Holokaust jedynie za punkt wyjścia dla osobnych analiz. Równocześnie, zamierzamy zwrócić uwagę na problemy, które jeszcze wymagają pogłębienia; publikujemy studia przypadku poświęcone reprezentacjom obozów nazistowskich dla radzieckich więźniów wojennych, raporty na temat sytuacji Świadków Jehowy w obozach koncentracyjnych oraz artykuły poruszające kwestię narracji o eksterminacji Romów czy zgłębiające ludobójstwo w Rwandzie dzięki inspirującemu odczytaniu reportaży Jeana Hatzfelda.

The present issue is devoted to the accounts of other genocides and their relationships with representations of the Holocaust.

In the current issue of our journal we encouraged the contributors to reflect in-depth on the subject, to assimilate lesser known approaches in the domestic context, and to work out their own proposals. We are especially interested in reflection on the description methodology and in answering the question whether the research should be embedded in the field of postcolonial and comparative studies, or rather discard all comparisons and make the Holocaust only a starting point for separate investigations. At the same time, we intend to draw attention to issues that have yet to be sufficiently developed; we publish case studies devoted to the representations of Nazi camps for Soviet prisoners of war, reports on the situation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in concentration camps, and articles intervening in narratives about the Romani genocide, or providing insights on how to understand the Rwandan genocide thanks to the inspirational reading of Jean Hatzfeld’s reportages.

Recent literary texts in English, French, and German represent the Ho-locaust through the autodiegetic narration of Nazi perpetrators, a strategy that emphasizes the humanness of their protagonists and complicates the reified image of Holo-caust perpetrators that has developed in the decades since the war. Questions of reader identification, affect, and empathy are of critical ethical importance when examining such texts, providing new challenges for the currently flourishing discourse on narrative empathy. This article considers how narrative depictions of the perspective of perpetrators actuate complex and varied processes of empathy and identification in their readers. First, it situates its inquiry within recent research on narrative empathy, which offers a compelling framework for understanding readers' empathetic engagements with admirable or suffering characters but has only barely begun to investigate empathy for victimizers. Second, it reconsiders the notion of reader identification as an umbrella concept that better accounts for complex readerly engagements with ethically charged characters. Third, it suggests a taxonomy of identification that combines cognitive, affective, and ethical components and allows for the itinerant fluctuation between types and degrees of reader investment in a character at different points in a given narrative. Finally, by taking a closer look at Martin Amis's 2014 novel The Zone of Interest, which pits two ethically dubious perpetrator-narrators against each other in a bid for the reader's ambivalent identification, this article demonstrates how texts narrated by Holocaust perpetrators have mobilized and managed reader identification and considers the ethical issues that arise from it.

absTracT Yoram Gross is Australia's most successful director of animated films for children. As an adolescent in wartime Poland, he lost his father and grandparents in the Ho-locaust and, with his immediate family, evaded capture by the Germans. A pioneer in depicting genocide, and war through animated films for younger children, he has explicitly and implicitly projected his experiences of survival and separation from his family onto animal and human characters who escape and resist danger with the help of kind strangers. He typically represents the persecution of the Jews in symbolic images and casts the enemy broadly as ecocide, imprisonment, or war. In his experimental shorts, he combines animation with documentary footage from the Holocaust. His message, however, remains the same: do not forget the human capacity for compassion as well as cruelty.

Közelítések Nemes Jeles László Saul fia című filmjéhez Nemes Jeles László Saul fia (2015) című filmjének nagy sikere-a Cannes-i Filmfesztiválon elnyerte a zsűri fődíját, valamint a Golden Globe-díjat és az Oscar-díjat a legjobb idegen nyel-vű film kategóriájában-nagyrészt annak köszönhető, hogy eredeti és újszerű módon ábrá-zolta a holokauszt ábrázolhatatlannak és felfoghatatlannak tartott történelmi traumáját. 1 A film nemzetközi sikere ugyanakkor új és felkavaró formanyelvi megoldásai miatt részben meglepő, hiszen a Saul fia egyáltalán nem mondható közönségbarát alkotásnak, éppen ellen-kezőleg: ereje és hatása a nézőt gyakran sokkoló, horrorisztikus eljárásaiban érhető tetten. Székács-Weisz Judit például úgy véli, Nemes Jeles alkotása "zsigeri szinten" szembesíti befo-gadóját a holokauszt traumájával, mégpedig úgy, hogy "a totális élmény világába léptet be, testestül lelkestül: nem lehet kívül maradni." 2 Gyenge Zsolt szintén a Saul fia "húsbavágó", testi atmoszféráját hangsúlyozza kritikájában, és olyan alkotásként jellemzi, mely "kíméletle-nül tárja elénk a szélsőséges bizonytalanság embert próbáló tapasztalatát." 3 Georges Didi-Huberman pedig "szörnyszülöttnek" nevezi a filmet, mely "torkon ragadja", és a soá rémál-mával szembesíti nézőjét. 4 A példák sora még bőven folytatható volna, melyek a szóban forgó film befogadásának élményét gyötrelmes testi és lelki tapasztalatként írják le, a befogadó, néző helyzetét pedig a kényszerű tanú pozíciójával azonosítják. 5 Tanulmányomban elsősorban arra a kérdésre keresem a választ, hogy miképpen, azaz milyen formanyelvi és tematikus eszközök segítségével kényszeríti befogadóját a néző "kül-ső" pozíciójából a tanú "kényelmetlen" helyzetébe a Saul fia című alkotás. Húsbavágó képek Nemes Jeles filmjének legszembeötlőbb vizuális sajátossága, hogy a kamera szinte egy percre sem hagyja el a főhőst, Sault, így vagy őt magát, vagy (vele együtt) azt látjuk, amit ő is lát. »Scham« und »Schuld«-zentrale Narrationen, in denen die Verbrechen der Shoah verhandelt werden. Ihre geschlechtliche Codierung und strategisch-diskursive Ver-wendung in Bezug auf nationalsozialistische Täterschaft steht im Zentrum dieses Bandes. Aus unterschiedlichen wissenschaftlichen Perspektiven fragen die Beiträger/-innen unter anderem: Welche Bedeutung kommt der Verschränkung von Geschlecht und Religion bei der Auseinandersetzung mit nationalsozialistischer Schuld zu? In wel-chem diskursiven Geflecht stehen juristische/moralische Schuld und weibliche Täterschaft? Welche Bedeutungen haben Schamgefühle für die Weitergabe von Schuld in familiären Zusammenhängen?

Holocaust literature has given rise to wide controversy about representing the unrepresentable, seeing the Holocaust as a unique event in Jewish history. which aimed at the eradication of Jewish presence in Europe. This controversy might be summarized in the belief that literature may fail to represent the facts of this historical event, and even to falsify it. The major research problem revolves around the legitimacy of blending history and literature, the implications of such a blending, and the appropriateness of representation and its limits. This papers aims to explore this problem in relation to fact and fiction in Holocaust literature. To this end, two literary texts on the Holocaust will be compared: Anne Frank’s Diary of a Young Girl, and Aad Wagenaar’s Settela. The comparison shows that confining the definition of the Holocaust to Jewish communities has imposed its limits on creative writing. It also becomes clear that narrating the small story in each text (the life of each girl and her fate) is written within a grand story (the oppressed Jewish identity). The comparison also reveals the nature of memory politics or its double function; it can be an instrument of promoting icons or idols, empowerment or marginalization. Both texts, however, fail to go beyond the privatization of the Holocaust: the privatization of the Jewish experience (The Diary of a Young Girl), and the privatization of the experience of the gypsies in Europe (Settela).

Апстракт: У овом раду изведена је упоредна анализа филмског сценарија односно самог филма Горке траве из 1965/1966. године и истоименог романа Фриде Филиповић из 2000. године. Методолошки оквир за поређење две медијске форме обликован је укрштањем два приступа и поступка: а) књижевноисториографским позиционирањем ових дела Фриде Филиповић у контекст њихове генезе, како у склопу југословенске ангажоване (женске) прозе, тако и у склопу индивидуалне стваралачке еволуције ауторке и б) упоредном наратолошком анализом одговарајућих поступака у два различита медија. У раду се скреће пажња и на место Горких трава у студијама Холокауста, односно у актуелним истраживањима женских искустава и сећања на Холокауст. Циљ рада је да, ослањајући се на претходне анализе романа и филма (Васа Павковић, Мерима Омерагић, Славица Гароња Радованац, Керстин Штајц, Рони Леви), истакне она њихова значења и функције која су условљена контекстом.
