The Nurse scheduling problem (NSP) represents a difficult class of Multi-objective optimization problems consisting of number of interfering objectives between the hospitals and individual nurses. Several constraint-based optimization techniques have been proposed to solve automated nursing scheduling problems in an acceptable computation time but most of these techniques are characterized by premature convergences which inhibit optimal global solution. Thus, a Modified Genetic Algorithm (MGA) was developed to solve Nurse Scheduling Problem. The Modified Genetic Algorithm will be implemented by using Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) software.

, EFENDI F. & OGAWA R. (2017) A deskilling and challenging journey: the lived experience of Indonesian nurse returnees. International Nursing Review 00, 000–000 Aim: To illuminate the lived experiences of Indonesian nurses who previously worked as caregivers in Japanese residential care facilities, by exploring the journey of becoming returnees. Background: The creation of bilateral agreements between Indonesia and Japan has facilitated the movement of Indonesian nurses to work as caregivers in Japan since 2008. While this decision raised concerns with regard to the degradation of nursing skills, little is known about this issue from the perspective of nurse returnees and how the experience affects their life. Method: A hermeneutic phenomenological method was employed for this study. A purposive sample of 15 Indonesian nurse returnees participated in this study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in four of Indonesia's provinces between August and October 2015. Data were analysed thematically, supported by QSR NVIVO 10 software. Findings: Four key themes emerged from the data analysis: (i) returning home; (ii) going back to zero; (iii) walking through a difficult journey; and (iv) overcoming barriers. These findings described the lived experiences of nurse returnees when they got back to the country of origin. Conclusion: Indonesian nurse returnees experienced deskilling and struggled to re-enter the nursing profession or to find other non-nursing jobs. The significant impact of this migration on individual nurses with regard to maximizing the benefits of return migration deserves further investigation. Implication for nursing and health policy: The Indonesian government, jointly with other stakeholders, should develop a brain gain strategy to align returnees' expertise with the needs of the national labour market. The public-private partnership should be strengthened to utilize returnees in healthcare services.

Introduction:

Lack of nurses in rural and remote communities of Indonesia has been a major concern of national and provincial governments. Given that imperative the Ministry of Health implemented (MoH) the Special Assignment initiative which assigned nurses in underserved communities This study examine factors that influenced participants in the program to remain (retention) in their assigned rural setting.

Methods:

Survey techniques were used to collect data from a convenience sample of 140 nurses enrolled in the initiative. Variables included age, gender, marital status, financial incentives and non-financial incentives. Descriptive and correlation statistics were used to analyze the data.

Results:

Findings indicated that both financial incentives and nonfinancial incentives along with age correlated positively with nurses’ intention to stay in the current rural setting. Non-financial incentives were as important for these nurses especially achieving employment security as a civil servant (government employee). Younger nurses seem to be more willing to work in rural and remote areas, which may be attributable to an individual seeking practice experience along with increased financial remuneration for doing so.

Conclusion: The findings of this study provide baseline descriptive information on the retention of nurses in Indonesia’s remote and rural underserved regions. Providing an attractive incentive scheme by considering certain demographic characteristic can increase their intention to serve in rural and remote area.

Family caregivers, especially in Asian countries, have a profound role in caring for a sick family member. However, there are wide variations between the Asian and western world in terms of culture and facilities. Therefore, the problems and needs of family caregivers between those two regions may also be distinct, and it is important to explore and elaborate based on our empirical evidence. In Indonesia, motives and values in caregiving and religion become the wheel-power of the family caregivers in providing care. This affects action and consequences for caregivers. This paper attempts to elaborate on common ethical dilemmas that usually face by family caregivers in Indonesia. Unfortunately, family caregivers typically are not prepared to make those challenging decisions. Therefore, we recommend not only that family caregivers need to be involved in the caring process, but also their issues and ethical dilemmas should be assessed and addressed by health care professionals, especially nurses, who have the most frequent contact with patient and family caregiver.
