As advances in communication technology and changes in legislation worldwide make more and more information available in mass and in electronic formats, journalists increasingly need to be able to make sense of this information for their audience. From words to maps and moving graphics, to video and interactive features, journalism is increasingly about the collection and presentation of data in a collaborative and interpretative way. This social dimension of data journalism, of finding material, of sharing it and collaborating with the public, puts the new practice of data journalism well within the realm of social journalism.

 ABSTRACT  The study aimed at investigating the art of journalistic commentary in Tishreen Newspaper, governmental newspaper and Al-Watan Newspaper private newspaper in Syria by analyzing the contents of journalistic commentaries that published during the first half of 2018, amounting to (680) journalistic commentaries. The study results showed a preference for the writers of Tishreen and Al-Watan Newspapers to comment on the political and sports events, local then international and Arab events, and their orientation to explain the hot events at the first place, and they employed a tool (inference to past events), With a positive trend of Tishreen's writers against a negative trend of Al-Watan's writers. The study recommended that the writers of two newspapers should be more closely aligned with important daily events, need to diversify journalistic issues and take into account other functions of journalistic commentary such as guidance. The study called for future research, such as analyzing the content of journalistic commentaries in the Syrian press, determining the location of the journalistic commentary, researching in methods of editing the journalistic commentary, and employing media theories in study of journalistic commentary.

Online trends and platforms come and go, and media professionals have historically shown a keen interest in adopting novel modes of content distribution in order to capture the interest of the elusive online audience. The paper at hand provides insights into the employment of online interactivity by news media users in relation to the social media presences of a selection of Norwegian media outlets. Adopting a comparative approach, the study features analysis of data from online mainstay Facebook and from the comparably novel Instagram platform. Among other things, results suggest that the previously noted tendency for audience members to prefer 'lighter' or less demanding modes of interaction with online news content is further strengthened – especially on the latter of the two studied platforms. Given that Instagram tends to attract comparably younger users, implications for the news media industries as well as for future trends regarding audience interaction in relation to news are discussed.

O  objeto  de  estudo  deste  artigo  é  o  discurso  sobre  a  mudança  climática  da  revista Galileuconstruído em dossiêacerca do tema publicado em 2016. Nosso objetivo é analisar a construção  discursiva  dessa  matéria  especial,  mapeando  as  vozes  e  os  sentidos  referentes  à problemática  do  clima.  Para  tanto,  nos  ancoramos  conceitualmente  e  metodologicamente  em contribuições da  Análise  de  Discurso  de  linha  francesa  (AD)  e  nas  noções  de  locutor  e enunciador  desenvolvidas  pelo  filósofo  da  linguagem  Oswald  Ducrot.  Os  resultados  da análise  são  tensionados  com  pressupostos  teóricos  do  sociólogo  Enrique  Leff  e  com perspectivas dos estudos sobre Jornalismo de revista.

It is a rare thing to see in Australia News Limited, the ABC and the Nine organisation standing shoulder to shoulder. But this they have done over the Australian Federal Police raids on a News Corp journalist's home in Canberra in June 2019 and on the ABC's Ultimo offices in Sydney in the same month. In the wake of those events, these news organisations called for stronger legal protections for media freedom, which they say is under threat from governments and institutions that have made "spurious" arguments for shutting down debate on certain subjects, in the interests of national security. The debate over the freedom of the press has gone on for centuries, and one might think the argument for the need for free speech in democracies was well established. However, the relevance of the arguments of the liberal thinkers remains a contemporary one for the wider media. It is similarly relevant – and problematic – for the Catholic press, as in the case study of the former Catholic newspaper, the Melbourne "Advocate", which is briefly summarised in this paper.

The article is a little research, carried out in the seminars of International Relations of the Ph.D. program in History, Studies of Security and Defense. The aim of the work is to highlight the role of propaganda during the conflicts in the contemporary age, particularly during the two World Wars. The propaganda developed during two major conflicts of the ‘900 as a true ‘weapon’ and instrument of government policy in international relations, has perfected the techniques of ‘news management’, and today is a real and relished ‘art’ applied to guide public opinion in favor of government decisions.

Under the title "Wrong Place, Wrong Time", was the story of a woman in Australia, identified by name, whose long hair was "caught in a belt-driven motor" as she was "tramping down wool". "Horrifically, the motor ripped her scalp off from the back of her head to above her eyes and ears". I should say that the editor of "City" sent me a thoughtful email, once I sent my letter to the "City" paper a second time, explaining that the oversight on their end was indeed unacceptable -they had simply picked up a syndicated column and had gone ahead and published it.
