This article presents the steps and main results of an investigation about social protection, labour market and improving of employability of young workers with low qualification, carried out in the region of Madrid during 2005-06. The study focuses on the employment possibilities of young people about 18 to 25 years lacking Degree in Secondary Education. In accordance with objectives, the steps and main results of our study can be summarized in: a) analysis of work market variables influencing the labour integration of young people with low qualification; b) temporary contracts impact on employment and continuous training of these workers; c) exploration of the possibilities open by the new normative on basic and vocational training; d) making a training plan that gathers both the conditions of being based on the market current possibilities and the accreditation of professional competences, influencing also the labour improvement of the studied group; e) to contrast and diffuse results among administration technicians, trainers, employers, union organizations and the youths themselves, as participant sectors in the field work and outstanding ones for the development of improvement proposals. As a more concrete contribution, the study includes five training itineraries, including didactic units and good practice guides integrating theoretical and practice training for the formation, accreditation and labour projection of the studied group.
