The present text introduces several unknown and lesser-known manuscripts and fragments from the Zograf Monastery in Mount Athos. Thus far the monastery manuscripts included in catalogues and descriptions are 286 and only 10 of them are before the XIV century. Now the number of the manuscript fragments from the XIII century raises by 3 (Zogr. 288, Zogr. 289, Zogr. 295),  those from the XIV century by 2 (Zogr 287 and Zogr 290) and one fragment dating at the border of the XIV-XV centuries (Zogr 291). There are also two manuscripts from the XVII century (Zogr 293 and Zogr 297). Five of the newly described manuscripts are written on parchment. All manuscripts are liturgical – two Psalters, two Triodions, a Typicon, a Gospel (for liturgical use) and an Euchologion. A connection was determined between the fragment from the Pentecostarion (Zogr 287) with its other pieces from the Russian athonite monastery St. Panteleimon, from the collection of A. A. Dmitrievski in St. Petersburg and from the collection of Tirich in Serbia (Jagodina)

endemic to LaGomera (Canary Islands, Spain) is described. This is the first comprehensive
study of the primary chaetotaxy of the three tagmata ever carried out
in larvae of Broscini, being also accompanied by a detailed iconography. The implications
of the results of this chaetotaxy analysis are discussed in relation to the
possible origin of Brosciniwithin Carabidae. Comments on the ecological determinants
for its remarkable presence in the mesovoid shallow substratum are
given, analysing the differences between La Gomera and other Canary islands
where samplings in the same subterranean habitat have been carried out.

We present a preliminary research on geomorphology and fauna for the study of the SUC (Superficial Underground Compartment) in Gipuzkoa (Basque Country). The survey has taken place in coluvial deposits and hillside sediments, in two transitional biotopes, from different lithologies, dating from the Paleozoic to the Eocene Age. We offer the first data about the biocoenosis of the SUC in this area. Among the hypogeous fauna we have found out Entomobryidae springtails, Bathysciinae (Cholevidae: Leptodirinae) beetles, Rhagidiidae mites, Gnatobdellida leeches and several representatives of the edaphic environment.

Shared file systems like Cray's SFS, DEC's VAXcluster file system, and Oracle's Parallel Server exploit network-attached storage by creating serverless distributed file systems that allow efficient, simultaneous access to shared, network-attached storage devices. In the past, these shared file system designs relied on proprietary networkattached storage like DEC's CI network or higher-cost interfaces like HiPPI, or used software to emulate shared storage networks. With the advent of Fibre Channel, a highvolume, open standard in network-attached storage interfaces is now available. In this paper we will review past work in traditional distributed file systems like NFS and AFS and work in shared file systems by Cray, DEC, CMU and others. New file system architectures for shared network storage will also be described. We report the synthesis of thirty-six Sansalvamide A derivatives, and their biological activity against colon cancer HT-29 cell line, a microsatellite stable (MSS) colon cancer cell-line. The thirty-six compounds can be divided into three subsets, where the first subset of compounds contains l-amino acids, the second subset contains d-amino acids, and the third subset contains both d- and l-amino acids. Five compounds exhibited excellent inhibitory activity (>75% inhibition). The structure–activity relationship (SAR) of the compounds established that a single d-amino acid in position 2 or 3 gave up to a 10-fold improved cytotoxicity over Sansalvamide A peptide. This work highlights the importance of residues 2 and 3 and the role of d-amino acids in the extraordinary SAR for this compound class.

A significant proportion of Lynch syndrome cases are believed to be due to large genomic alterations in the mismatch repair genes hMLH1 and hMSH2. However, previous studies have not adequately identified the frequency and scope of such mutations, and routine clinical Lynch syndrome testing often does not include analysis for these mutations. Our aim was to characterize hMLH1 and hMSH2 genomic rearrangements in a large population of suspected Lynch syndrome patients. A total of 365 samples from probands referred for genetic testing for Lynch syndrome were analyzed for the presence of large genomic alterations in hMLH1 or hMSH2 by using a combination of techniques. Samples with a deletion in exons 1-6 in hMSH2 were further characterized by polymerase chain reaction to establish the presence of the hMSH2 American founder deletion. An hMLH1 or hMSH2 mutation was identified in 153 cases, and, of these, 12 of 67 (17.9%) and 39 of 86 (45.3%) had a large genomic alteration in hMLH1 and hMSH...

This study aims to analyze and monitor the geomorphological changes that have occurred on Um Al Rasas Island. This island is located in the Shatt Al-Arab River south of Basra city in southern part of Mesopotamian plain. Field surveys include measurement of water velocity and cross – sectional Profile. Satellite images of Landsat multi-spectral scanner (MSS) 1973, thematic mapper (TM) 1990, and enhanced thematic mapper plus (ETM+) 2002, 2004have been used monitoring the geomorphological changes. The High Performance Storage System (HPSS) is a mature Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) system that was developed around a network-centered architecture, with client access to storage provided through third-party controls. Because of this design, HPSS is able to leverage today's Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructures to provide cost effective, large-scale storage systems and high performance global file access for clients. Key attributes of SAN file systems are found in HPSS today, and more complete SAN file system capabilities are being added. This paper traces the HPSS storage network architecture from the original implementation using HIPPI and IPI-3 technology, through today's local area network (LAN) capabilities, and to SAN file system capabilities now in development. At each stage, HPSS capabilities are compared with capabilities generally accepted today as characteristic of storage area networks and SAN file systems.

The NASA Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) provides supercomputing and mass storage services to over 1200 Earth and space scientists. During the past two years, the mass storage system at the NCCS went through a great deal of changes both major and minor. Tape drives, silo control software, and the mass storage software itself were upgraded, and the mass storage platform was upgraded twice. Some of these upgrades were aimed at achieving year-2000 compliance, while others were simply upgrades to newer and better technologies. In this paper we will describe these upgrades.

This paper presents the data management issues associated with a large center like the NCCS and how these issues are addressed. More specifically, the focus of this paper is on the recent transition from a legacy UniTree (Legato) system to a SAM-QFS (Sun) system. Therefore, this paper will describe the motivations, from both a hardware and software perspective, for migrating from one system to another. Coupled with the migration from UniTree into SAM-QFS, the complete mass storage environment was upgraded to provide high availability, redundancy, and enhanced performance. This paper will describe the resulting solution and lessons learned throughout the migration process.

The demand for increases in the capacity and speed of data storage tests the limits of conventional technologies and drives the search for new approaches. Optical holography has long held the promise of storage densities and data transfer rates far greater than those of traditional magnetic and optical systems. In the past, its realization has been frustrated by the lack of availability of suitable system components, the complexity of holographic multiplexing strategies, and perhaps most importantly, the absence of recording materials that satisfied the stringent requirements of holographic data storage. Here we report on the design and development of a high-performance photopolymer recording medium and on advances in the design of a holographic storage system that have enabled demonstrations of storage densities as high as 31.5 channel Gbits/in.
