The Northern territory of Caserta has had a marginal development compared to the well-known destinations of the cities of Caserta and Capua. Through an historical perspective, this study aims to show the results of the overall activities of restorations and requalifications of this territory in search of value and local identity, coordinated by the Integrated Territorial Plan of Trebulani Matese Mountains,
including twenty municipalities of the Alta Terra di Lavoro (such as the roman castrum of Alife, the town of Formicola with its Baronal Palace founded by Diomede Carafa, the town of Piedimonte Matese with San Domenico’s Convent). I also analyze different scenarios of development that, in a
framework of interrelations, could enhances the local cultural and historical uniqueness, and embrace new perspectives of territory valorization, strengthening the identity and image of the places according to the notion of cultural and touristic district, that put the strengthening of human capital at the center of any process of redesigning of the territory.
