This text describes the pattern that has been followed for drafting the conservation plan of the mural paintings in S. Maria Maddalena church. The conservation project of the building and its interiors is focused on a multidisciplinary approach. It has been drawn up with the collaboration of several professionals engaged together from the beginning of the conservation process. These different skills have gathered up relevant results which have been able to provide a set of information related to the comprehension of the building, meant as a complex system. The main goal is to integrate all this data with the support of each different discipline, querying each professional’s specific answers in order to outline a holistic view of the topic. Through this method it has been possible to set up the criteria for the conservation project, based on the issues of preventive and planned conservation.

Iconography of wall painting in the ancient world (ca 300 BC – AD 100) concerns both decorative systems used to decorate the walls of houses and other buildings and the figural elements within these systems. The first section discusses matters of contexts of wall systems, especially from the so-called first and second styles, and addresses the possible meaning of colours. The second part is on figural motifs which here are not seen as expressions of political or personal ideas of the patrons who ordered the decorations, but rather as expressions of mentalité corresponding with the societal developments of the discussed period.

The proposition of ‘painting as...’ suggests that painting has a function beyond its aesthetic autonomous form. While the city continues to be a source of inspiration for painters in the 21st century, the conversation between Agnieszka Mlicka and Frank Creber reveals a reciprocal relationship in which painting in return responds to the urban condition and functions within its physical and social networks: as conversation, as public art, as place-making, as politics, as urban composition, as catalyst, as didactics, and as experience. The artists met on the 27th of July 2011 to discuss the many ways in which their painting practice contributes to the city and its people.

Jidariyya (Mural) by Mahmoud Darwish was intended as his last poetic work, following a brush with death during heart surgery in 1999. Mural combines many strands of Darwish's poetry and is in a sense his testament. The entire collection is one long poem with many movements. It wavers between the lyrical impulse and the epical grandeur of a national classic. This essay analyses the verse genres of epic and lyric in terms of content, form and reception, and the fluidity of literary genres where artistic transgression of conventions is valued. Then it explains how and why Mural, while aspiring to be an epic, stops short of one, mixing lyrical reflections with a discontinuous verse narrative. This poetic strategy is not only a poetic choice of a hybrid form, but also the state of mind of the ailing poet caught between life and death. It further reflects the state of Darwish's homeland where Palestine paradoxically is and is not, caught between being and non-being. Epics celebrate national achievements, but as nationhood in the case of Palestine is work in progress, the poetic expression reflects this indeterminacy by mixing lyrical meditations on existence and exile with recollections of personal and collective history.

The purpose of this article is to analyze a muralism festival organized by the municipality of San Martin, based on the theme of Martin Fierro and the notion of “Encounters at the border”. This study is based on qualitative research carried out between 2017 and 2020. We seek to understand the ways in which the themes of the Muralism festival are interpreted and resignified by Latin American artists. We also examine how these artistic practices transform a deteriorated public space, and how the Muralism festival, which is part of the Program San Martin Pinta Bien, constitutes a vehicle to de-stigmatize the neighborhoods, and generate a positive identification with the history and memories of the space.

The aim of the present study was to map the painting materials, degradation processes, and biological features present on the mural painting in the church of St. Mary in Beram (Croatia) to study their possible interaction and produce information helping the preservation of this valuable painting. The research was conducted on micro samples of painting materials taken from different sites along the painting and the characterization of the present fungal species was carried out. The painting samples, together with observable patinas and degradation products, were studied by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction. In the present study a comparison between five familiar retouching materials (Water colour, Acrylic colour, Gouache colour, Poster colour and Oil colour) were applied on the mural painting of El Sakakeny palace. The artificial aging was used to define suitability of them, while the comparison revealed that the water colour is the most successful material as it isn't turned to yellow, it is reversible and stable, thus it is considered as the most suitable material for retouching the mural painting of El Sakakeny palace which suffers from losing of paint layer.
