Each segment is expected to seek both peculiar and universal needs which will influence their motivation and behavior, a part of which is driven by religious considerations. It is important to understand the different Muslim tourist sub-segments in comparison to the mass tourists or other special interest categories that have been adequately covered in the literature. In order to develop a firm grasp of tourist motivation among Muslim travelers, in depth studies on them are essential. Thus, this paper explores the perspective and challenges of Muslim tourism planners and managers to fill the gaps in existing knowledge on this growing segment of the Muslim travel market.

The emergence of tourism product from the perspective of Islamic value indicates increasing demand among the Muslims. The trend requires depth understanding about the situation, and therefore strategies and issues to address the challenges that might be foreseen in the future. This includes a promotion of potential tourism product and establishment of entity such as Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) in 2009, in order to enhance development of tourism in Malaysia. In this scenario, the strategies should given emphasis on organizing national and international Islamic events, developing Islamic product and heritage, and assembling good social-value among Malaysian. Nevertheles, several key issue towards the challenges and strategies are at it infancy and most probably still questionable, especially in recognizing the existence and full potential of Islamic tourism. Using secondary data, the purpose of this paper is to explore the foundation of why such intentions are needed and thus, examing the issues in developing Islamic tourism in Malaysia. Antara strategi berkenaan termasuklah seperti penganjuran acara pelancongan Islam di peringkat nasional dan antarabangsa, pembangunan produk dan warisan pelancongan Islam yang berpotensi untuk dipasarkan, serta penerapan nilai dan budaya murni di kalangan masyarakat Malaysia. This paper seeks to explore the evolution of Islamic tourism in the world especially in Malaysia as a multi-cultural nation. Since the religious factors have been brewed in Islamic tourism, it most likely influences the pros and cons of its growth in Malaysia. The data gathered from literature review were critically debated to fill the gaps in understanding the emergence of Islamic tourism. Therefore, the main issue address in this paper is to highlight as to how Islamic tourism (or so called religious/spiritual tourism) could give significant changes and impacts towards Malaysia's tourism industry.

Studies of tourist enclaves have noticed their boundedness, but paid little attention to the theoretical significance of the strictness of their boundaries for their internal dynamics. This issue constitutes the point of departure of our study of a Middle Eastern Muslim tourist enclave in an international tourist zone in Bangkok, which plays a double role as a source of religiously proscribed hedonistic opportunities and religiously prescribed services to a
Muslim clientele. The enclave was founded by Gulf Arab sex tourists in the early 1980s and became a center of sexual services to Middle Eastern visitors, but its hedonistic role came to be increasingly confined to a hotel, and consequently stagnated, whereas the service role of the enclave flourished, particularly after the recent arrival of Middle Eastern medical tourists and their families, seeking treatment in a nearby hospital. The article analyses how the latter’s arrival has changed the dynamics and structure of the enclave, led to unresolved tensions between vice and virtue in the area, and reconfigured the relationship of the enclave with the wider international tourist zone.

The Imam Al Bukhari Complex is a unique pilgrimage site in Hartang, Samarkand region, Uzbekistan. This site is requiring a better visitation flow by its present administration as unique stakeholder. The goal of this article is to spot the solutions that could further increase the experience at the site as well as the benefits to the local community. The main study
methods used were the qualitative observation during fieldwork, the interview with visitors and stakeholders as well as the analysis of online resources. The analysis of the demand and offer of this tourist attraction has highlighted an imbalance towards a wide range of weaknesses that

For decades, religious tourism has played a major part in attracting travellers to sacred sites for the performance of rituals. Within the Muslim World, there are two types of religious-related travel: Hajj and non-Hajj. This paper takes a quantitative survey-based approach to explore Muslim pilgrim travel motives beyond the Hajj season. Umrah is a pilgrimage that Muslims undertake at any time of the year except during the time of Hajj. Thankful- ness to a higher power (Allah in Islam) is revealed as the main reason for undertaking Umrah. Other useful find- ings related to the most important daily spiritual/religious practices and the perceived spiritual/religious beliefs for Omani Umrah travellers are reported. This article opens up new perspectives on non-Hajj travel of Muslim pilgrims and discusses the implications and future research directions for this cohort of travellers.
