Hypertension is estimated to cause more than one-eighth of all deaths worldwide. In Canada, the last national surveys to include direct measures of blood pressure (BP) took place over the years 1985-1992; hypertension was estimated at 21%. Data are from cycle 1 of the Canadian Health Measures Survey, conducted from March 2007 through February 2009. The survey included direct BP measures using an automated device. Weighted frequencies, means and cross-tabulations were produced to estimate levels of hypertension awareness, treatment and control in the population aged 20 to 79 years. Among adults aged 20 to 79 years, hypertension (systolic BP higher than or equal to 140 or diastolic BP higher than or equal to 90 mm Hg, or self-reported recent medication use for high BP) was present in 19%. To provide estimates of the institutional costs associated with primary care physician (PCP) turnover (job exit). A cohort of 533 postresident, nonfederal, employed PCPs younger than 45 years of age, in practice between 2 and 9 years, participated in national surveys in 1987 and 1991. Data from a national study of physician compensation and productivity and data from physician recruiters were combined with PCP cohort data to estimate recruitment and replacement costs associated with turnover. By the time of the 1991 survey, slightly more than half (n = 279 or 55%) of all PCPs in this cohort had left the practice in which they had been employed in 1987; 20% (n = 100) had left 2 employers in that same 5-year period. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Accreditation requirements mandate that family medicine residency programs perform surveys of graduates. As part of the Preparing the Personal Physician for Practice (P4) Project, we developed a model for a standardized national graduate survey to be used to assess practice characteristics of graduates, including the implementation of features of the Patient-centered Medical Home (PCMH). METHODS We conducted a content analysis of residency graduate surveys from the 14 programs involved in the P4 project to identify common elements of importance to residencies. We then designed a new graduate survey as a core measure of the P4 Project. It included practice characteristics, assessment of training, and the status of features of the PCMH. Approximately one third of the world’s population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 9.27 million new cases of TB occurred in 2007. Developing countries disproportionately shoulder the global burden of disease with the highest estimated rates in the world, with an estimated 55% of global cases in Asia and 31% in the African region. The incidence of new sputum smear positive in Rwanda through recent national survey was an estimated 162 per 100 000 population. The aim of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of smear positive pulmonary TB among patients at the University of Butare Teaching Hospital, a tertiary health facility in South province, Rwanda.  In addition, some aspects of the performance of the pulmonary TB diagnosis are discussed. The overall prevalence of sputum smear positive cases were 17.3% (63 0f 364) and most of the positive patients were within the age range 15 - 44 years. A random sample of primary grade teachers (N 178; 97 % female) from across the United States was surveyed about their classroom instructional practices in writing. Most of the participating teachers (72%) took an eclectic approach to writing instruction, combining elements from the 2 most common methods for teaching writing: process writing and skills instruction. Although 90 % of the teachers reported using most of the writing instructional practices that were included in the survey, there was considerable variability between teachers in how often they used specific practices. Using data from a Canadian national survey assessing dairy product preferences in 2011, individual preferences for milk and yogurts with specific attributes are examined in this study. Statements developed based on the Health Belief Model, food attitudes, beliefs about the role that nutrition plays in health, nutrition knowledge, and an individual’s propensity to make changes to improve their health are used to predict whether or not respondents consume milk/yogurt, the frequency with which they consume it, which type of product they typically consume, and how much they would be willing to pay for new milk or yogurt attributes. Results indicate that several aspects of the Health Belief Model as well as general nutrition knowledge can predict purchasing and consumption intentions for milk and yogurt products. The study of the WAP-phone owners is primarily based on cluster analysis of these data- sets. The owners of WAP-phones are typically frequent users of Internet and e-commerce services.
