Parsons

Existing sociological studies of critical illness deal mainly with providers and families, but seldom with patients, themselves. Moreover, most of the literature on the patient's experience involves chronic illness. Based on the author's experience as an intensive care unit (ICU) patient, this paper demonstrates that certain concerns of the post-Parsonian literature, such as full disclosure of information to patients and patients' negotiation and collaboration with physicians, are of minimal relevance for critically ill patients. This paper also discusses the notebook the author used in the ICU to communicate while on a respirator, thus unintentionally leaving a concurrent record of his experience, in a form of "inadvertent ethnography.” This allowed him to reconstruct experiences rarely accessible to sociologists. Such notebooks can help us construct accounts of the ICU patient's experience, and move us towards a sociology of the critically ill patient. Potential topics for this new research area are suggested.

Parsons: La acción como sistema. Del acto unidad hacia el sistema de acción. Puede decirse que el factor primario en la teoría de Parsons es el " acto unidad " el cual se traduce en simples palabras a la acción realizada por un agente en diferentes situaciones de la acción, mediadas por diversos factores externos al individuo como lo son la sociedad y la cultura –condiciones-, pautadas dependiendo del medio ambiente y condiciones de vida en las que se encuentra el individuo-medios-, y dirigidas para alcanzar un determinado fin –orientación normativa-el cual se puede lograr o no dependiendo de los medios y condiciones con que disponga dicho sujeto; todos estos elementos se encuentran entrelazados entre sí, y en su conjunto serían los cuales componen el llamado marco de referencia de la acción. A todo esto se le debe sumar que el término de acción para el autor " es un proceso en el sistema actor-situación que tiene significado motivacional para el actor individual o, en el caso de una colectividad, para sus componentes individuales. " (Parsons, 1956, pág. 16) Esto quiere decir que la orientación de la acción está ligada a la esperanza de la obtención de una gratificación o evitación de privaciones presentes tanto en el medio social como el personal en el que se desenvuelve el actor. Así definida, " es una propiedad fundamental de la acción no constituir " respuesta " ad hoc a " estímulos " particulares de la situación; por el contrario, el actor desarrolla un sistema de " expectativas " en relación con los diferentes objetos de la situación. " (Parsons, 1956, pág. 16) Cada acción funciona como una especie de contrato, en el cual ego actúa esperando cierta retribución por parte de alter, transformándose así la acción en una interacción entre sujetos, lo que practicado a gran escala termina por conformar un sistema social. Especificando lo último, según el autor, un sistema social consiste básicamente " en una pluralidad de actores individuales que interactúan entre sí en una situación que tiene, al menos, un aspecto físico o de medio ambiente " , (Parsons, 1956, pág. 17) en donde los actores se ven inclinados a obtener el mejor nivel de gratificación posible, " y cuyas relaciones con sus situaciones –incluyendo a los demás actores-están mediadas y definidas por un sistema de símbolos culturalmente estructurados y compartidos. " (Parsons, 1956, pág. 17) Cabe señalar, que para Parsons, el factor cultural es un punto clave tanto para la conformación del sujeto como de la sociedad en la que este se encuentra. " los valores culturales se realizan en el sistema social, organizan el sistema de la personalidad y penetran hasta el «ello» freudiano del organismo. " (Almaraz, 1979, pág. 27) En resumen, según la teoría de Parsons, el acto unidad sería la acción básica que realiza un sujeto o actor para lograr algún fin, considerando así diferentes factores externos que determinan las diferentes formas en las cuales el individuo puede proceder en la interacción con un alter intentando en todo momento obtener un máximo de gratificación. En esta interacción es donde nos topamos con el sistema de acción, que se traduce a las condiciones con las cuales debe lidiar el sujeto para lograr la meta anteriormente nombrada. En este sistema se pueden encontrar básicamente tres subsistemas que se entrelazan y guían el proceder de ego, y estos serían el sistema social, el sistema cultural y el sistema de la personalidad del sujeto-estas categorías si bien contienen cualidades diferentes que permiten distinción entre ellas, necesitan unas de otras para existir y retroalimentarse constantemente.-Estos subsistemas serán los que determinarán tanto el canal, el código, el medio y el nivel de gratificación que se puede alcanzar utilizando los diferentes medios disponibles en el sistema de acción. Notoriamente a mi parecer, todo esto tiene su base en el acto comunicativo, y de esta forma es entendible que la acción como la entiende Parsons, termine por cumplir una función social.

Nowoczesność  późna – refleksywna musi uporać  się nie tylko z przemaganiem zewnętrznego, ale przede wszystkim ze zwalczaniem skutków ubocznych samej siebie. Nie oznacza to, iż owe przednowoczesne troski zniknęły, przestały istnieć. Samoorganizacja „materii”, nieludzka dynamika bytu nie znika. Receptą nie jest ucieczka w kwietystyczne zamknięcie w stylu Foucaulta i jego „estetyki egzystencji” czy Heideggera i jego Gelassenheit. Rozwiązaniem nie jest też ślepy decyzjonizm, „wola realizowania się we wszystkim”. Warunkiem sprawstwa w drugiej, refleksywnej  nowoczesności jest aktywna, samozarządzająca się zbiorowość, która zaryzykuje drogę w stronę innej nowoczesności.

The concept of “network” has become the most central concept within the work of Karl‐Heinz Ladeur (KHL). It is an omnibus concept which he uses to extrapolate insights at all levels: It is used to provide a general framework at the level of Gesellschaftstheorie (social theory) in the sense that it provides insights into the general structure of society and thereby into the context within which legal processes unfold. At the level of organizational theory it provides a basis for understanding the transformation of organizational structures as it unfolds through the breakdown of hierarchy and the boundaries between the private and the public, just as the network concept plays an important role in its attempt to formulate a legal theory which is adequate for a society which, according to KHL, has become postmodern.
This article seeks to critically examine the function and “added value” of KHL’s network concept in relation to the European integration and constitutionalization process. It is argued that the concept provides a very useful overall framework, but that its usefulness might be enhanced when combined with more concrete studies of the actual function of networks in the EU context, just as the network concept should be more directly combined with an attempt to develop a conceptual framework for the juridification of networks.

One of the most important issues in the medical and health field of the Iranian society, during the second half of the Qajar era, was the relationship between patient and physician. The nature of these relationships at that time was one of the most important things that could have a great impact on how people were health-wise examined and treated; individually and generally. Regarding the patient-physician relationship, a number of sociologists around the world have offered a theoretical model, one of which is the American sociologist Talcott Parsons. In this article, using a descriptive-analytical research method facilitating first-hand sources such as memoirs and travelogues, the relationship between upper-class patients and European physicians based on the Parsons role-oriented model is investigated. The research questions are: Did the patients of the upper classes during the second half of the Qajar era have the conditions to play the social role of the patient? Did European physicians in this era have the conditions to play the social role of the doctor? Findings indicate that in the second half of the Qajar era, both the upper class patient and the European physician were able to play their social role in the cycle of patient-physician relations. However, issues such as patients' malingering were among the influential factors that could disrupt the normal course of patient-physician relationships during this period.

This text takes, as its starting point, a reflection on two different contexts of communication, which will constitute the conceptual core of the paradigm of synthesis in the theory of knowledge: (a) the interaction in the classroom between teacher and student; (B) the structure of the speech that translates the symbolic representation of that interaction’s content in the linguistic community.
They are addressed sequentially, the following contents:
1. Implications of communicative acting and performing to the epistemological research;
2. The Habermas/Parsons’ model of communication and the structural-functional assumptions of understanding;
3. The communicative acting in Habermas’ hermeneutics and the functional assumptions of understanding.
4. The triad of communicative performing in Peirce's semiotics and the signic functions of knowledge;
5. Principles and archetypes: a dyadic tension in the overlapping of epistemological interests with the actualization’s fields of knowledge;
6. Claims of validity of the communicative acting and doing - the four expressions of rationality and the emergence of the four structural manifestations of lore: religion, science, philosophy and art.
7. The praxiological division of lore: pedagogy, therapy and technology;
8. Remarks on challenging the epistemicide in the still recent history of thought.

Wir befinden uns in einer Situation, in der das soziologische Wissen resystematisiert und überprüft wird. Die Soziologie der Mitgliedschaft wird in diesem Kontext fortgeführt. Die Evolution des Mitgliedschaftscodes und seine Interpretation ist der harte Kern der Theorie der Evolution des Mitgliedschaftssystem Gesellschaft. Der theoretische Ausgang der Soziologie der Mitgliedschaft ist die Vereinheitlichung der Theorie sozialer Systeme, der Medien- und der Evolutionstheorie.
Die strukturelle Evolution der Mitgliedschaftssysteme wird mit der Analyse der Strukturformen gesellschaftlicher Kommunikation und der Medien der gesellschaftlichen Mitgliedschaft und Kommunikation abgestimmt. Die Strukturformen des Wirtschafts-, Rechts-, Wissenschafts-, Religions-, Kunst- sowie des politischen Systems werden einer mitgliedschaftstheoretischen Analyse zugeführt. Berücksichtigt werden dabei eine Reinterpretation der Medien der Commitments und der Gefühle. Für die soziologische Theorie der Gegenwartsgesellschaft stellt sich der Problembezug, das Forschungsprogramm der „Multiple Modernities und Mitgliedschaftsordnung“ mit der Analyse von Globalisierung abzustimmen. Sie geht davon aus, dass es keine Globale Moderne gibt.
Das Ziel ist eine Neufassung der Theorie sozialen Integration, der sozialer Bewegungen und der sozialen Ordnung jenseits von Liberalismus, National- und Sozialstaat, die von einem Wohlstandspluralismus und einem hybriden Multikulturalismus auszugehen hat.
